      Problem is there is usually only one manned register open, sometimes none, and therefore the line takes ages even though the scanning and paying is 5 times faster than the Self Checkout.

  • @S-Mania

    This is 100% accurate. The only reasons I like the self-serve (apart from it "mostly" works for me) are 1. As a shy introverted person, human checkouts are very awkward or embarrassing.
    2. With self-serve, using change/coins is easy and it counts it accurately. Whereas with human ones, it's very embarrassing and awkward (especially if there's a big line) and just a hassle for the workers I imagine.
    3. The lines for human checkouts are ALWAYS full regardless (very annoying if I'm in a hurry or on lunch break).
    4. They often employ high school teens or kids who are only there for money and couldn't give a stuff about customers or the community. Most don't even fake a smile (even the adults).
    Otherwise, I prefer human checkouts. Many times it fails to read barcodes and it's incredibly hard to angle some items to the scanner. Plus, while it does free up some lines, it's not by much. The lines at Coles and Woolies are ALWAYS past full regardless.

    • @burnyizland
      @burnyizland 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Your number 2 does not compute for me - where I am none of them allow self checkout if you're using cash of any kind, it's debit or credit or nothing.

    • @VanessaChats
      @VanessaChats วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Number 1 - relatable. My anxiety goes up with human checkouts. I'm also nearly 50 yo so this is a personality quirk.
      Number 2 is starting to be phased out, I know my local ALDI and Woolies are all card only self checkouts.
      Number 3 isn't always true as sometimes the self checkout lines are longer than the human ones
      Number 4 is truth so having "human contact" with these types of people is worse IME than none with self checkout

    I'm one of those people who is laughing my ass off at this whilst at the same time being thankful AF for self checkouts. I go into the shop, buy my shite, and want to leave. At the same time, I did a couple of times over the course of the year go with a human checkout instead of self checkout and it was awful for my anxiety. They'd scan everything and I'd have to bag it asap. I was still bagging it. They were literally only scanning it. I'm fine with doing that if it gets me in and out quickly without pressure or anxiety.

    Thanks Jimmy for making annoying things in life funny. My last trip to the supermarket, on a Wednesday morning, I was forced to use the self serve to checkout my full weekly shop. There was only one human checkout working and it was the "express lane" of 12 items or less but it had a huge queue of people with full trolleys waiting. Why don't they put more people on checkouts or hire more workers? This particular supermarket made a one billion dollar profit in the last financial year but can't be bothered to hire workers and provide a service. Geez....

IF I get to a checkout and there's no option but to use the self checkout then that is where my shopping will remain. I'll leave it right there and the former checkout staff can put it back on the shelf.

    TIP FOR OTHERS - If you're in a department store that has these, go grab one of the huge bags of bean bag refill beans. When you scan it, it will tell you to put it in the bagging area. Shoving it into the bagging area will puncture the bag, causing foam beads to cascade across the shop.
    When the staff member asks if you need any help, just ask if they can grab you another bag of beans as there's something wrong with this one.
