@@ranudar5666 Rich people pay a lot more tax than you think.
The top 3 per cent pay about 28% of all tax revenue and the top 10% pay 46% of tax revenue.
People get confused because they don't understand the difference between wealth and income. You can own a million dollar house (which makes you a millionaire) and pay no tax (because you have no income). The media writes misleading articles about this to trick people into thinking the rich don't pay taxes but it's a lie.

Part of the t'axe goes towards a guy who writes speeches (for $300,000 a year) because the guy who we are paying t'axe to isn't competent enough to tell us what he should know in his own words. If the guy being paid $300,000 a year to write speeches for the guy that we are paying directly knows more than the guy the speeches are being written for then the wrong guy is in that position. Let’s math it out shall we.
Using what is mentioned in this video and some average costs, let’s see how much is t’axed for a hypothetical average adult in Western Australia.
The t’axe mentioned in this video are:
    Income,
    Land,
Stamp Duty, (I will not use in this example)
    Local Govt. Rates,
    GST (Goods & Services T’axe),
Superannuation (taken from gross salary and cannot be touched until the mandated retirement age set by our government),
Company t’axe (I will not use in this example)
    Healthcare (a.k.a., Medicare) Levy.
    Hypothetical Western Australian adult:
    Average income = $100,000.00 Gross
    Super at 11% = $11,000
    Income tax calculated for 2023/2024 = $22,967.00
    Medicare levy at 2% = $2,000.00
Average size block in Perth = 400 sq. m.
Local Govt. rates for block = $970 min. p/a (City of Swan, excl. Waste & Emergency services levies).
Land tax for above block valued at $800,000 = $1,250.00 p/a.
    Hypothetical Living expenses:
    Mortgage of $30,000.00 p/a.
    Groceries of $9,000.00 p/a. ($900 is GST at 10%)
    Fuel (U98) $2,880 p/a ($288 GST, $1,296 Fuel excise)
So, lets deduct it all together.
    $100,000
    - $22,967
    - $11,000
    - $2,000
    - $1,250
    - $970
    - $30,000 mortgage
    - $9,000 food
    - $900
    - $2,880 fuel
    - $288
    - $1,296
    = $17,449.00 Net income p/a remaining.
Of which, $40,671.00 goes to our Govt. via the T’axe.
(calculation excludes; fees & charges for banks and other businesses, eating out & entertainment, hobbies, etc.)
What do you people think about it? Remember, it is only an example to show how much T’axe we Australians pay.

What if people invest and make some money so they're less reliant on the government? Tax that too Jason. Call it investment gain, no capital gain.

To be fair the tax system here isn't too bad, having it automatically taken out of your pay usually works better because you don't get a massive tax bill each year so it is easier to manage your money, and with some deductions you can often get a refund which feels a lot better than in other countries as it is like a reward for doing your taxes. Not to mention that doing your own taxes is pretty simple nowadays, if you wait till September usually everything is automatically filled out for you so you can be done in under 10 minutes or 20 if you have some deductions, so you don't need to pay a heap of money for an accountant either. We also have tax included in advertised prices so you know how much something will cost before you buy it. Overall it is a very convenient tax system compared to other countries, but it is still frustrating how much goes to tax, mainly because of how much of that gets wasted on/by politicians.

All tax systems are unfair. That's why I support a blanket flat tax. It's unfair too, but at least it's easy to understand. Everything is taxed exactly the same percentage regardless of what it is. The more you spend, the more tax you pay.
