Hollow Knight. I’m very late to the party but I started playing this after hearing Ash talk about it and I love it.

I finally got a PS5 this year and my first game was Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart. That was my most anticipated game of this year and easily became my game of the year, really love that game.
That's a great shout. A thrilling adventure from start to finish!

Lost Judgment was by far this year’s standout game for me. Phenomenal combat system, incredible soundtrack, & one of the best narratives I’ve seen in years.
Death’s Door would be a close second. It was this year’s must play indie game like Hades was to last year.
Psychonauts 2, hands down. It's a small miracle that the game came out in the first place, let alone that it ended being this good. There's more heart and creativity in this game than in 99% of what's on the market today.

Returnal. Bought on disc, played for 40hrs and sold the disc, after few months I realized that was a mistake and I bought it again, now I have 100 hrs in it and still enjoying.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is my game of the year because it’s a beautiful, fun and action packed game that everyone can play and enjoy.

Returnal hands down. 40 hours to beat another 60 to get plat because of the rng. Never got bored of it. Gameplay is smooth af.

Hitman 3 is also my game of the year too. It's underated. Most fun I've had on PS5 so far.

It is for me as well.
Blood Money is the Hitman game that taught me to live in the level not just play through it. The latest trilogy really are some of the best games ever made.
Standard JRPG release for ps5 is Tales of Arise, Expansion is FF14 Endwalker. Favorite game to just jump in and out Hades and favorite non Playstation game is SMT5
Whole heartedly agree with Rosie - Hades was worth wait. I cannot think of a game with better writing.
Returnal is my Game of the Year with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Resident Evil 8: Village and Metroid Dread as runners up.
Honestly, a game that I started playing and was unsure of, but platinumed and LOVED was Tales of Arise. Remarkable game and a great next gen take at the Tales series. It's a coin toss for me between that and Yakuza Like a Dragon that I CANNOT BELIEVE WAS THIS YEAR! It feels like it was 8 years ago at this stage!
I’m intrigued by Tales of Arise. I downloaded the demo, but I can’t help but find the grunts (in none voiced over sections) and the over-the-top battle screams too much to handle….
@@Nav3n the first few hours of dialogue is a little too edgelord for my tastes now I’m an actual adult. It sorts itself out soon enough.
Awesome game. I'm finally on my way to Rena but I have to get the devil arms AFTER I finish the game 😅

Farming Simulator 22. Just relaxing gameplay. Great to unwind while planting and harvesting my crops after a day irl work.
Hitman 3. I’ve had so much fun conducting assassinations around the world, in some very clever and hilarious ways e.g. introducing 30 NPCs to the glory of the wine press. Good times!
I played Persona 5 Royal this year. Got the Platinum. 160 hours on the first playthrough, 80 on NG+ because I could breeze through combat and skip most cutscenes. It’s my favorite game of all time
It's always wonderful to see someone discover Persona 5 (Royal too) for the first time and fall in love with the game just as I had. Royal > P5, as it corrects some things and adds in lots more fun content. Glad you got to play Royal and love it mate.
Persona 5 Royal is absolutely phenomenal and is my favorite game of all time too. Not usually a trophy hunter but it's one of my few proud platinums
It Takes Two. Just jaw-dropping. Spectacular. I had my mouth just hanging open with wonder at each new section and just loved how cleverly each new level was designed and how each puzzle was meant to be solved.
Side note: No Nathan GOTY? Why you gotta do my guy like that?
My personal GOTY is Tales of Arise. But all of these are great games! Love hearing what you all loved this year
Nier Replicant Remaster, but if I don't include remasters/remakes, then Kena: Bridge of Spirits.
EDIT: When it comes to pure fun (and music), then definitely Persona 5 Strikers. Platted it twice - English and Asian version (even though I didn't understand one bit of the Asian ver, it was just as fun as the English one).
I knew Rosie's game of the year would be a skill-based one! Lol Ash's favourite game NOT being a horror game. I can't believe Rob's choice wasn't Skyrim Anniversary edition! Great choices, everyone, you're all shmups! Cheers!

I'd say that Lost Judgment is an improvement over Judgment in nearly every way, but yes, Judgment is still a really good game, and I'd recommend you play Judgment first before going into Lost Judgment.

My GOTY was easily Returnal. One of the best games I have ever played. 133 hours it took me to get the true ending and I loved every second of it.
I’m still stuck in Phrike. 10/10 tho

havent really played many new games for 2021. Rachet and clank rift apart was mine or (released on console this year) Hades (still cant beat the 3rd area!)
I have played a decent number of the new releases this year - I would say my game of the year this year, is Returnal.
I can accidently spend hours without even realizing it. If you are even remotely interested in a 3rd Person Bullet Hell, I can't recommend it enough.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits was the game of the year for me. For it to be Ember Lab's first game is still amazing to me.
Guardians of the Galaxy is my 2021 GOTY. and it's not even close
Fantastic game! Really enjoying it! Mine is Returnal no question, but Guardians impressed me specially after not being interested at all by the trailers

Mass Effect Legendary Edition! I know, technically not a new game but I don't care. I hadn't played the trilogy before and I spent almost 6 months with it, so it was definitely my GOTY. Also, I enjoyed it immensely, probably in the Top3 favourite games of all time for me.
It would either be Deathloop or Ratchet & Clank. Very hard to choose. Both were so good. It Takes Two didn’t deserve it, that’s for sure.
I got to agree with Rosie. Hades was AMAZING. I still try to get everyone to try it out. The game deserves all the hype it gets, maybe more.
When games win THAT many awards and are universally and overwhelmingly acclaimed then it’s probably not overhyped. Overhyped games fall flat and generally don’t stay positive and win award after award. People are just being objectionist to be stubborn and different.
It takes two for me. What a great co op game!
It's been at least 10 years since I played a game in the year it came out. The backlog!
Hitman 3 was my favorite game of the year. I can also add RE village, but that game has some problems that are hard to ignore. One of those problems is pacing and progression Some parts of the game are very interesting and intelligent, other parts fall flat . I didn't like what they did with a Duke. However, it's still my second favorite game. On the third place is new Forza Horizon. I hope you like my choice.
I can't really pick since I haven't played any game from 2021, but I really liked what I saw from your stream of Deathloop. Looking forward to play it when I can eventually get a ps5

i've played so many great games this year , Returnal , Demon's Souls , Spiderman Miles Morales , Ratchet and Clank , Scarlet Nexus
but my game of the year goes to Tales of Arise. Great first year with my PS5

VANGUARD ZOMBIES AND CAMPAIGN IS THE BEST VIDEO GAME EVER CREATED
I would have expected mine to be something like Hades or Kena Bridge of Spirits, but the one that has stuck with me most is Chicory: A Colorful Tale, if only decoratiing the house was as relaxing as this.
I dont know if they count, but I really liked the Fatal Frame 5 re release. And I also tried this year, due to Ash's recommendation, Visage. Really good horror games
i also really loved fatal frame 5. surprisingly emotional and meaningful game for me.
The game that really amazed me this year is the that stand out and it is Stray 🐱, I did love other Titles but this my favorite
Mine is RE Village. It’s the only new release game I played this year and actually finished.

I've played some fantastic PS5 games this year I don't know if I could just pick 1, Rift Apart, Guardians of the Galaxy, Kena, and a slight cheat but the PS5 version of A Plague Tale (I'm currently playing through now). They've all been fantastic
Returnal is SSSSSOOOO good. People are just afraid of its greatness.
My Game Of The Year (and only 2021 game I've played) is also Hitman 3,the world of assassination trilogy is what introduced me to Hitman and the entire trilogy is great,but Hitman 3 is my favourite out of the three WoA Hitman games.
My game of the year is the Elden Ring demo

I want to say Mass Effect LE but I feel like remasters shouldn’t count. It hasn’t been a great year So I’m gonna have to go with Ratchet and Clank. Surprisingly closely followed Guardians of the Galaxy
Ratchet & Clank _just_ pinches first place for me but Deathloop is so very close behind. It was brilliant and so much deeper, smarter and more engaging than I ever thought it would be from the initial reveal. Anyone else who was a fan, I'd highly recommend checking out Prey (also from Arkane) if you haven't already, it has some of the same core mechanics and (super) compelling aspects as Deathloop, and didn't get nearly as much attention as it deserved at the time.
Returnal was my GOTY as well, amazing game with addicting gameplay loop
So happy to see Returnal get some love. My GOTY along with Chorus, which is in a close second.
Days Gone....been able to catch up on my backlog whilst waiting for a ps5 - but really did enjoy it once it got going 👍
Really enjoyed Tales of Arise,Guardians was great, Kena was beautiful,RE Village got a couple more but those were some of my top games.
Disco Elysium for me. It's an amazingly written, unique, and ... questionable??? experience.
I can't think of a game that is like this, when most games are trying to be RPGs this one rewrites what an RPG can be.
I want to get into that, but my first playthrough was soft-locked by a game breaking bug.

Chivalry 2, Guilty Gear Strive, Nier Replicant
Probably RE Village. But Ratchet and Clank was also great! Still in early access but I also had a ton of fun with Mount and Blade Bannerlord.
To be honest: the gta trilogy. The nostalgia it brings, is just awesome. It's the game I enjoyed the most in 2021

Retunal for me, it's easily the most next gen feeling game out today. Completed ratchet and clank also however returnal feels really special

mass effect remaster and guardians of the galaxy. good to go back to mass effect and gotg blew me away by how deep the writing is.

Hitman 3 is definitely my favourite game of 2021. I bought it about two months ago, and I am having so much fun. Right now I am working on the platinum trophy, and its so fun figuring out all the ways to eliminate the targets. Amazing work IO interactive.

Ratchet and Clank tops my list. Loved the gameplay. Above all though I loved the characters, especially Rivet. Jennifer Hale is such a good voice actor.
My game of the year was a complete surprise how utterly wonderful it was: Death’s Door. I’m no trophy hunter, but I’m currently on my umbrella run, and one boss away from the platinum! What a game!
Shouts out to Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Ghost of Tsushima: Directors Cut, Hades and Returnal. All of which, I put 30 hours or more into, and could easily have been my favourite game if it were not for Death’s Door.
[NOTE] I also have Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Deathloop and Resident Evil Village ready to start, but I just have to finish Ghost of Tsushima first.
Dreams. And it will always be Dreams, despite launching last year.
My game is Hades (not released this year but a game I didn't play until this year). It lived up to the hype.

I have to admit I don't think there's been a standout game in 2021 for me, but It Takes Two, Lost Judgment, Resident Evil Village, and Returnal have been close contenders for me.
It Takes Two is probably the one I'd give the win for being something fresh though.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy
2. Disco Elysium
3. Deathloop
I'm with Rosie! Hades is my game of the year as well! I do not like Rogue likes, and I figured there was no way I would care for this game, but my god.... I have put so many hours into that game and I just keep coming back to it! I can't get enough of it!

I haven't played any games this year, but their were games that I was excited for, or enjoyed watching from Let's player channels, for this year it was Little Nightmares 2, Resident Evil VIII, It Takes two, and a recent one being Inscryption. I was going to include At Dead of Night, but apparently that came out late last year, it kind of blended in my memory, I could have sworn that game came out late January this year.
I've been a fan of hitman since ps2 and I had Hitman 3 for christmas. Its the first one that made me genuinely want to upload to TH-cam because of the levels. Its insane. Going to do the same for the other 2 now.
My top 3 horizon 5 , demons souls even though it came out 2020 i recently got it and ps5 aand resident evil 8. Kena bridge of spirits waiting until i finish demons souls. Demons souls and all souls games is just so good , cant wait for elden ring

There weren’t that many new games that interested me this year. My game of the year is the very unappreciated Scarlet Nexus. The best game I played this that was actually old but finally had an official western release is The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles.

So I’ve enjoyed a lot of games this year but I really enjoyed returnal it’s genuinely something I can go back to time and time again
out of the games i played this year it would be horizon zero dawn, for a game that came out this year and i played it has to play halo, i was going to say spiderman then i remembered it came out at the end of last year.
my top 5 for games i played this year is
1. horizon
2. first spiderman
3. god of war still playing it though
4.days gone still playing
5. halo only played online so far
I honestly can't put one of these on top of the other - Returnal / Hades / Hitman 3.
loved Ratchet and Clank as well as Tales of Arise, but man, Deathloop was the most FUN i had with a game this year
