  • Signature Flight Support, the largest FBO chain in the world has complied with AOPA's longstanding request to publish fees now visible in the AOPA Airport Directory. AOPA has made FBO pricing transparency a priority for more than 5 years after hearing from thousands of pilots who were surprised by egregious fees after they had parked their airplanes. These fees include ramp fees, drop-off fees, tiedown fees, and other surcharges.

Maybe they need to make their pay more transparent as well. I interviewed for a line tech position with them and when it came time to talk pay they said they dont disclose that information. So I compared the pay to another FBO at the SAME airport ($15/hr) and they said it would be "significantly less than that" but they still cant tell me how much unless I accepted the job first! Yet they say on their website that their pay and benefits are competative 🤣🤣🤣 You bet I went to the other FBO and got a job there instead.

I'm surprised that in the 6 hours since this was posted, multiple people have commented stating they are shocked at the $80 fee to "use the lavatory" and how they will never be giving this business their support. *That is the fee to have a line tech empty the lav ON YOUR PLANE, clean it, and refill it with the "blue juice" deodorizer/sanitizer stuff.* I'm truly worried if these people have pilot's licenses... although that does explain the GA accident rate. As a public facility, using the restroom inside ANY FBO in the USA is free. And if you're a small plane pilot and don't have a lav onboard but filled up some bottles then it's free to trash them or dump them in the FBO's restroom, just give the common courtesy of placing such items in a bag so that guests in the FBO don't have to see whether or not you've been taking your vitamin B supplements or not.

Signature is one of the most poorly run “premier service” businesses I’ve ever dealt with. Dishonest to the core and predatory.

I'm guessing they haven't synchronized everything yet? Otherwise I don't see anything that has changed. Most Signature locations have had most of their general fees posted on AOPA for quite some time. For example, check out the Signature Flight Support at KOPF (Opa Locka, FL). Their Ramp Fee is stated as "Fee Not Disclosed" with the note of "Fee varies upon aircraft. Please contact FBO for details." This is nothing new.

Does the AOPA database of fuel prices sync with Fore-Flight ???? I think if AOPA gave a damn about GA, they would definitely work out the details with Fore Flight so that the most current prices sync back and forth cross-platform.... that's what is best for GA.

Hi zrRyan2, thanks for your question. AOPA does provide the airport and FBO data in the AOPA Airport Directory to ForeFlight as well as other leading EFB and avionics manufacturers. We have provided this data to them for many years.

#20👍🤔Where is this AOPA guide?! I have never paid to park an airplane. Public airports have public tie downs. I live in Oregon. In the 70s I ferried new Cessna singles from Wichita to Oregon and today the world is a crazy place!

Hey Mark, your own statement about what businesses don’t produce or share pricing is egregious in itself. Perhaps the most prolific business that hides their pricing is none other than healthcare.

That's the fee for one of their line techs to clean someone else's 💩 out of the toilet on your plane and refill it with the special blue juice. Using the restroom inside their facility is free, as it is in all public businesses.

There is alot more to it...Safety Culture is a big one. Safety is very important to say the least, but in many cases they over do safety (ie a person gets a dui in college, and 20 years later that have to fight to get their medical because of it- Im saying this as someone who has never had a dui and doesnt drink alcohol.) Media is another one, people reporting on incidents without knowing what they are reporting on and creating stories that scare people. Not enough is being done to bring new people into GA. They do help with people already interested but dont reach out to get those that have never been around aviation to generate interest.
There is so much more to it that I have seen thats not mentioned here, but aviation is killing itself and the people in control of the regulations are a huge part of that. As a person in their 50s, I have always loved aviation, but with the extreme costs and time required there has never been an oppurtunity for me go into avaition. I would love to be a CFI for GA aircraft, but it is an unrealistic dream in todays aviation world.
