It’s actually a very controversial title right now. Both Thorpe Park and SFGAm claim theirs is the quickest. Thorpe Park claims that they increased Stealth’s launch speed since it opened, therefore making it the quickest. So according to their current claimed launch speeds, Stealth gets to 80 mph in 1.8 seconds, and Maxx Force 78 mph in 1.8 seconds. But some think that Stealth doesn’t actually go that fast. So it’s controversial
The thing is, stealth at Thorpe park has always been reliable since they made the acceleration faster making it almost never roll back & having the fastest acceleration on any coaster in the world, 0-80mph in 1.8 seconds! So y’know stealth in the uk at Thorpe park is proof the model isn’t to much of a failure.
I always thought the same, Stealth and Rita don't seem to have as much down time as other ones. But they are also much smaller models, esp. Rita. Stealth's launch is amazing though. I always dreamed of getting on TTD and Kingda Ka and will never get to now, it sucks. Same with Do DoDoonpa.
Superman Escape for the most part has been very reliable too. It only had its first major downtime since 2006 earlier this year when it was closed for 6 weeks waiting on parts from Intamin but otherwise it's been very reliable and a pleasure to operate.
From a guy in the UK who has ridden Stealth and Rita dozens and dozens of times, I can say now that you think Rita is fast until you ride Steath and it's on another level especially with the 1.8 second launch that goes from 0 to 4.5G instantly. I went on it Stealth 60 times in a week with very little queue and no downtime. Rita and Stealth are my favourite rides in the UK, followed by Hyperia, Smiler, Oblivion, then the lovely smooth wing coaster of The Swarm. This model certainly wasn't a failure with the sheer amount of rides that were constructed, the tech involved is immense but it probably did have more accidents than it should have. Although Alton Towers and Thorpe Park are now insane on maintenance now. Even on Hyperia when it was running a bit slow, engineers came out to grease the rails and ran the train round 3 times to bed in again before letting anyone on again. The operations are much better and maintenance leave nothing to chance since the crash. (The only crash in the history of the uk theme parks for all you guys who don't do your research and also it was a ride op error)
Formula Rossa, renowned for its reliability, has rarely faced significant issues throughout its operation. The park consistently prioritizes daily inspections, typically closing the ride between 4:40 PM and 5:30 PM for routine checks. This proactive maintenance approach extends to other attractions, like Flying Aces, ensuring the rides remain in top condition and highly dependable for Ferrari World visitors. The current downtime, however, is attributed to a snapped cable and the ride's annual maintenance. Unfortunately, the extreme weather conditions in the UAE since January significantly delayed repair work, extending the ride’s closure. Adding to the speculation, rumors suggest that Ferrari World may be working to enhance the ride’s speed. Construction activity and new components observed around the launch section of the track have fueled this belief. While unconfirmed, even park staff have hinted that this might be true, possibly in anticipation of Falcon’s Flight, a competing rollercoaster set to debut soon.
As an engineer, im really curious if it would be possible to combine hydraulic and LSM Launches, this could lead to some benefits less stress on the cable in the first part, no brakes needed etc but of course it would only be there for the effect of the hydraulic steadyness.
Xcelerator at Knotts just went through an extensive overhaul (new cable, new cable Wench Drum, hoses, lines, ect) it's now running great and very consistent, especially for a daily operating park.
Calling the Intamin Accelerator a failiure would be a huge disservice to what Intamin was able to accomplish. While yes, these rides did have issues. They're still marvels of rollercoaster innovation and history, and they still were able to provide awesome rides. There's a reason why Xcelerator, Stealth, Dragster, and Kingda Ka have the cult following that they do.
I absolutely agree. This model may have had it's fair share of reliability issues, but in my book, the fact that they got this technology developed to a point, where it's actually viable for a theme park, is pretty amazing. And I mean, most of these rides still operate today after almost 20 years and still offer much more forceful launches than most LSMs. The maintenance is simply the price you pay for the pure mechanical power and insanity that these rides are. And on another note, I've actually never had any of these rides experience extended downtime during my visits. Ok, I've only ridden Stealth and Desert Race so far, but they have always been operating without problems during my multiple visits.
I would say, the Intamin launch coaster has been revolutionary and very successful for the most part. The three most problematic launches have been Xcelerator, Dragster and Kingda Ka. I don't think it's any coincidence they're Six Flags and Cedar Fair. That was a marriage made in Heavan. Now they just doubled their problems.
Makes me wonder how long Superman escape here in Aus has left I’ve Been heaps of time and tbh that thing is running most of the time it’s been very reliable since 2005 sure it has had some down time but it’s been pretty good
Ive been on Stelth and Rita. Rita isn't the most intense ride at Alton, I prefer it over stelth because of that fact. Rita has the lanch with less of the intensity. What I would say the most intense ride at Alton is Oblivion which I would say is similar to stelth in intensity and gets the effect with a near vertical drop and a heavy train.
I would consider these to be successful coasters, the problem is the they are so intense and pressing the envelope of engineering, they naturally result in a shorter lifespan. A failure is more like the windjammer surf racers. There's nothing truly innovative or challenging in the engineering for that era of ride and given Togo's experience, they should have been able to engineer it correctly but they didn't. Intamin deserves a lot of credit for how much they got right on this thing. They get criticized for not being as reliable as other Swiss rival, but you have to look at the fact that Intamin is making truly innovative rides when they build the stuff that no one has built before versus B&M is just copying other people's ideas and when they develop their rides they've done it 10 years after someone else created the segment.
Yeah this is something people forget. Intamin is hired specifically for groundbreaking rides cause they're the only company that seems to even be capable of pulling them off. I also agree that it's stupid to compare a recordbreaking strata coaster to a B&M dive. None of Intamin's smaller scale multi launches have been failures, nor have their megacoasters like Hyperion, EGF and Kondaa.
Thank you. Everyone wants to rag on Intamin, but I think they are also #1 on the list of manufacturers to build you that headline coaster. Then RMC. Intamin seriously pushed the limits on a lot of stuff, and we got so many coasters that are just perfection.
@@Spike-sk7ql You're welcome. There's a lot of very vocal B&M fanboys that if they had their way, That would be the only manufacturer on the market. They have their place but the best parks have a variety. I appreciated into men for millennium Force and Maverick. Maverick to me was one of the most impressive ones because it packed such a punch in such a short ride. I'd rather ride it than anything B&M ever made. Same goes for millennium Force.
I don’t know if I agree that B&M just copies other designs, but I agree with the rest. They have pushed the envelope more than any other manufacturer in the last 25 years.
I wouldn’t say it’s super problematic some are just built better than others… It’s like a car! You win some, you lose some… Look at all of the smaller accelerator coasters that are still running fantastic with little down time only mainly due for regular maintenance.
Oh Windjammer...the ride that hurt my neck before I knew what neck pain was (from some motorcycle accidents). It's bad that I remember feeling pain when I was in my late teens, considering the fact I deal with chronic pain now. They best never decide to bring back the name for some weird 'nostalgia'. If they wanted to do that, they should bring back the Soap Box Racers (and cycles), now those were fun and they didn't wrench your neck.
9:55 Maxx force at six flags GA now has the quickest launch.

I think the smaller ones around 200ft or less are fairly reliable but there’s a lot more that can go wrong when launching up to 120+ mph
Thorpe Park lies about the acceleration of that ride lol. Maxx Force is quicker.
I always thought the same, Stealth and Rita don't seem to have as much down time as other ones. But they are also much smaller models, esp. Rita.
Stealth's launch is amazing though. I always dreamed of getting on TTD and Kingda Ka and will never get to now, it sucks. Same with Do DoDoonpa.
accelerators of stealth's size are pretty much the sweet spot, so it makes sense

Rita seems to have been struggling with downtime recently. Stealth on the other hand seems to be doing fine.
@lonelysparrow5111 ever since they've changed the launch spec. It's been pretty much up all the time.

It’s been closed since January according to RCDB and also listed as SBNO. That’s definitely an extended downtime.
27 rides on Top Thrill Dragster in 2019, 14 of them with Marissa.
Will never forget, both the coaster and the beautiful girl & relationship I had.

TTD’s accident occurred on August 15th, 2021. Not in October like mentioned in vid
Yeah we had August written in the script but apparently that was a misread that slipped through the editing process.
Whatever you say the hydraulic launch was the most awesome experience I've ever experienced. Congrats to Intamin for building it!
I agree. I’m glad Intamin took on the engineering challenge of making these huge coasters.
Thanks for the credit and good job.

tt2 was open for 1 week lol
Only road top thrill once, every other coster, countless times
The goat of coasters, despite the problems
I think it's fair to say at this point, Zamperla reimagining is a bigger failure 😅
It seems 100 mph launch coasters just aren’t sustainable
"sensors are very sensitive".. Well, duh..
Sorry
