      It’s a little more complicated, unfortunately. Gemini at Cedar Point uses a wooden structure but a standard steel tube frame. Many call this a steel coaster but some call it wood. The Villain at the former Geauga Lake had a structure made of steel but a traditional wooden track. Most everyone called this a wooden coaster. I think what the author of this video should’ve specified is that it’s a wooden coaster if the track is made of wood (with steel plating added to it, of course).

      That's really common for Disney coasters. Disney is all about rider volume. They can literally launch a train every 30 seconds because of that block system. Which makes sense given the crazy number of guests that visit their parks everyday. It's why nearby Six Flags Magic Mountain can get away with 2 train ops (and 1 train on Scream and Revolution >:|) but if you did that with what's now known as Incredicoaster, the line would be 6+ hours long.

      This. It's inconsiderate and dawdling guests more than anything else. For coasters demanding extremely fast loading times to prevent serious problems, large people can easily be mostly checked at the beginning of a line with a test seat, as kids and the occasional adults teetering on the edge of being too small should probably be. But even then people with cell phones, too much in their pockets, clumsy hands with the seatbelts, and/or just a careless or in rare cases reckless attitude towards putting on the restraints are probably a plenty big set of issues that's harder to control.

    This further cements my opinion that El Toro is the best wooden roller coaster in the U S if not the world! I find it amusing that some coaster purists don’t consider El Toro a real wooden coaster when it is 100% wood and consider the Voyage a wooden coaster when it’s framework is 100% steel. Anyway I’m happy that Great Adventure has the only pre fab Intemin wooden coaster in the US because I get to ride it a lot and feel lucky to do so because it is a fantastic experience every single time!! RMC’s are good but gimme El Toro!!

    Had no idea that Intamin Prefabs actually had that much maintenance needed. Hopefully the other parks with prefabs don’t get in the Colossos situation.
    I’ve heard the lift hill chain for El Toro has gotten slower over the years, is that true and if it is, is that have to do with the chain or motor? Also do you see the park ever making it so the lift hill is as fast as it used to be in its early years?

    • @theforeverpuddle8754
      @theforeverpuddle8754 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I rode it yesterday and it still feels terrifyingly quick. That sucker has like two gears. You get on and it's normal, then it goes into turbo mode and then slows back down to normal at the top. But I like the lifts that don't fuck around.

  • @darksludge5171
    @darksludge5171 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Interestingly enough, my experience running cornball was that it was also extremly moody with pacing, even with steel wheels. Frequently we werent allowed to send test cycles in the morning until maintenance was there to ride it. Generally this was fixed with greasing the track but one day we had to close for an hour to grease it, because it kept getting stuck on the final brake, not passing the sensor it needed to activate to release these brakes (yeah it was strange for a one train coaster). Lost coaster also had issues but not because of the wheels.

    Ryan, I just now found your channel, and I need to take my hat off to you, young man! I operated a very small woody in the now defunct park "Miracle Strip" in Panama City Beach, FL,y home state, back in the 80's when our coasters had NONE of the current safety features or sensors like our current generation of coasters.
    This is the 3ed tech analysis video of yours I've watched. The first two were for Kingda Ka and Top Thrill Dragster. Your breakdown and information, along with your work experience truly give a great perspective on how the rides have evolved over the years.
    Our small coaster has rattly lapbars and buttons for "Go, Stop and Brakes." Although, despite its size still great ejector airtime, especially over the smaller hill right after the lift hill.
    So, as a former operator, your videos are wonderful and you're to be commended. You are a good teacher for those who may know nothing about coasters. I look forward to all your videos and I'm your newest sub as of today including the notification bell.
    Your new Florida Fan,
    Aszneth 😁
    PS: I have some bragging rights. BG Tampa is my favorite of my three home parks and I've not been able to ride an RMC refit, but guess what I get once the park reopens? You guessed it: #IronGwazi! I am SO excited I can hardly stand it! I think the ride will make BG Tampa one of the best parks in the world. Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to express my appreciation for your efforts. Stay safe out there and one day, I hope to meet and ride with you. 😁👍🙌

As soon as we got to the park it cleared up and the park was almost empty. We rode the Giant again and again that morning. Best roller coaster day ever. This was almost 30 years ago and I remember it vividly!

    The passion, detail , experience and willingness to realize you might not be 100 % correct about everything is the most human thing in the world, and that 's what makes your coaster knowledge resonate w me. Intamin wooden Prefab vs Gravity Group's wooden The Voyage (w metal ledgers) vs RMCs wooden Topper Tack vs RMC's metal I-Box but I joke at myself: This is a long video to love.
    Maybe I'll send this video to my 84 year old dad. He loves wood work! (In the 70's he actually built the cabin my kid brother lives in to this day where there's no running water or electricity. It's ok: there's an outhouse there built in '74 and my bro drives down to town to get supplies and take a shower.)
    My dad also used to love roller coasters. (Spoiler: Not any more: damn fool insisted on riding the back car of Coaster at Playland in Vancouver; Canada's oldest coaster from '58 w a single position lap bar at the age of almost 82yo in August 2017.)
    I'll try to get back to you on the many details of this video, El Toro Ryan, when/if I get a chance. Much Love: my biggest coaster related hope is that I can get to Great Adventure this August. I will watch this many times over I'm sure. This video SLAPS!
