It's bringing back memories isn't it?. I came back here from ur story (i dont know much about new yt, idk how is it exactly called) and im so happy that i did it :). Thank you
I'm new to Porter Robinson... took my son to his 1st concert to see Porter 2 weeks ago and it was Awesome. I saw my 15yr old son sing along every word... he stood up and jumped, danced, he smiled, laughed, and even cried throughout the concert. I am now a fan and listening to his music 🎶.
My dad and our family just had a similar experience. Me and my brother are long time porter fans But my dad and our other two brothers don't know him well We all went together and it was such a special and amazing thing to experience together Glad to hear you had a great time with your family too :)
Porter has said that the song was supposed to be about a human boy falling in love with a robot girl. The rest is up to interpretation but I think it's how the Boy awakened this robotic girl and taught her real emotions, and when he passes away (because he is a human) she goes into a sleep and thus the lyrics "You've awakened her again" meaning every time he is reborn, he finds her.. When they sing though "I'll go alone. And never speak of you again" I think that means every period of time when her lover has died she will go into a deep sleep until he returns. *Edit - I've listened to Goodbye To A World a couple times and I think its possibly the prequel (or could be a sequel ) because the vocaloid sings Thank you, I'll say goodbye soon, Though its the end of the world, Don't blame yourself now And if its true, I will surround you and give life to a world That's our own At the end of that song it sounds as if the robot is shutting down. In the beginning of this song she sings "Is anyone there? Who survived? Somebody new? (possibly him reborn a new person) Anyone else but you? (this could be interpreted in a couple ways such as she doesn't realize it's him reborn and is hoping her lover is with him or now that he's been reborn she doesn't want to bombard him with weird ideas that he's been reborn, so she is just talking to him in a casual way and knows she has to make him fall in love with her again) On a lonely night was a blinding light (Him being reborn and her waking/ rebooting to a bright night sky ) Also skipping ahead when she says "And you can hear it in his voice in every call, this girl who's slept a hundred years has something after all" It could mean she can hear the reminiscence of the previous him breaking through in the way he speaks. For the hundred years part, it could mean every 100 years he is reborn. Lastly, I believe since throughout this video a world is being generated as she moves alone, it is her waking up and discovering the new world that has been made and her venturing off to find her lover, and in the end when the hands grasp each other it portrays that they found each other once again.
My favorite part about this music video is how the lyrics function. The computerized voice appears as digital text while the orchestral voices appear as messy handwriting. It makes the song that much more distinctive
It's about a lonely robot finding a human after 100 years most had probably died from the apocalypse they are talking about. The human depends on them and they depend on the human probably
@@abarcyTelary He said in an interview on Medium Cuepoint that "the lyrics of “Sad Machine” are mostly just composed of phrases that I felt were kind of poetic and nice and sang well, but also give that sort of fiction, escapism kind of vibe. Like “She depends on you,” I was so happy when I stumbled upon that lyric." So it's not necessarily "about" anything. Doesn't change the fact that it *feels* like a story, and an emotional one at that.
I think it's about Rin from "Shelter"? Cause from the shelter lyrics everything makes sense if you combine both the lyrics from sad machine. Rin left the pod "cause I left the home that you made me". She (maybe) returns to the ruined earth and she's like trying to save the people "we depend on you". But that's just my own opinion about the songs and I don't know if that's the real story there.
Collazo John are you stupid? think for 10 secounds why i would listen to porters song.... hmmmm.... why would it? maybe to find new songs i like maybe? maybe maybe???
Alexander Lid well...u say that u dont REALLY like porter music .-. i know that anyone will need to find a new songs to like it tho and im not stupid :D
This song was introduced to me 3 years ago by a good friend i met playing csgo. Early 2018 he decided to end his life. Even though we never met i really thought of him as a great friend. This song reminds me of him, he was a nice guy and ill miss him.
I just found this on my dad's TH-cam channel; a channel I didn't even know he had until last night. he passed away almost a year ago, and the lyrics to this song are almost eerie. it's like a message that he left for us to find.
PastelxGoddess It’s not a negative thought, it’s something that I think. After all, Sad Machine wasn’t one of those messages from the dead. It’s a TH-cam channel, not a note.
My friend kept on repeating this song over and over again in the car one day, BUT I LOVE IT SOOOOOO MUCH, I COULD LISTEN TO IT ALL DAY, This is what I call real music
Imagine: Rin from ‘Shelter’ is the one who wakens the “Sad Machine.” The idea is that Rin is supposedly the only survivor of Earth’s destruction and has ‘slept a hundred years,’ when she wakes up, she wakes up with Sad Machine on a new planet. This is entirely fictional, and not based on anything but my imagination.
Another version is that the one who ‘awakened her (Rin) again’ would be an E.T. Enitity or another survivor, and the Sad Machine is a message from Ron’s father, saying the songs lyrics such as “Rin depends on you” and “a hundred leaders would be borne of you.” (Rin and the other)
This song was an escape into an imaginary world for me at a time when I really really needed it. Whenever things were becoming too much, I'd dive into the story this song is trying to tell me, and belting out singing that second verse felt so good. Thank you
@@daakrolb I read somewhere that Porter himself said this song is about a boy from an apocalypse type world who finds an old so supercomputer and talks to it because he hasn’t seen another human in quite some time. So they come from similar backgrounds even though being completely different
@@Dr.GainzzzThe sad part is the fact that she actually FEELS in this song. Her voice is robotic at the beginning, but becomes more human at the end. The machine is sad, but is confirmed to feel love. She finally has something, but I’m the end, she’ll be alone again. One day he will die, and now she has to be there alone, now conscious in this wasteland she didn’t even fall asleep in to begin with. She missed a hundred years, and now she lies awake, alone in a world that has already ended That line “The girl who slept 100 years has something after all” will always make me tear up after learning this, man
It’s pretty crazy, I was re listening to Porter Robinson’s music, thinking about this. It’s August now, we are almost through 8 out of the 12 months, and I still think it’s the new year in my head. Very little has happened in 2024 for me personally, but ’m a different person than I was last year. Well there’s plenty of time to do something. Tomorrow morning sounds good, and I’m having a melancholy night.
@@Jyudeei ment to reply, but yea i feel you. The vibe atleast, much have happened to me personally this year. But still i feel the change, the emptiness, the melancholy. Maybe tomorrow is a better day after all
@@Hand_Burger666_ glad to relate, I never feel like I achieve enough for myself, and like I’m always taking losses. But I think I’m a little happier than I was when I wrote that one five days ago,, so not bad I think :) u too, hoping for a good day tomorrow as well.
@@Jyudee I feel the same. Kinda like I'm stuck in the same spot but yet different. I always say today but today is always turning into "well maybe tomorrow"
It's been a long time since I heard this song again, this song was the reason I didn't took my life away, having to listen this now has made me appreciate what life is and that everything will be okay if I just wait and take the pain every step forward. Thank you Porter Robinson for making such wonderful songs.
mgsGamer why would he lie about that? They have literally no reason to. And you have absolutely zero proof he is. You are trying to sound like the “SmARt oNe.” Just stop.
This song and shelter are tears generators to me... I just put this in my ears and my emotion/sadness/empathy bar get all filled... Maybe I m just weak... or Porter Robinson is just a genius... We depend on you Porter ! Continue producing amazing songs... **I’ll depend on you...**
This song got me thru PPD. this song is the one I play any time Im sick, depressed, or angry. Because this song can mean something different to billions of people but still simply hold a grain of "Just keep going" for anyone who needs it.
Dubstep Is Life the human she meant the human she found will one day die and now she’ll no longer depend on you. But as the song goes on she says “I’ll depend on you” because you’re alive atm. What is meant by “We depend on you” is the human race as a whole because you’re the only one left 🤭
GOAT EDM song. So many are far too generic sounding but this has stood the test of time. Built memories with a group of people 6 years ago and building more with a mostly new group nowadays. I'm not even an EDM fan normally but this just hits different. You could listen to this at any point and long for a bit of nostalgia that never happened.
The lyrics of this song resonates with me very different. "she depends on you" , "this girl who's slept a hundred years, has something after all". Absolutely masterpiece.
As a classical music enthusiast, I wasn't expecting much of adding much variety of chords from an edm song, but then 2:15 hit me...it sent me to the ethereal realm all over again🤣. Porter Robinson is no joke.. he puts his heart and soul in his craft. I should have discovered him more sooner. I really dig his art, his subtle music precision and him too!
I remember when this song first came out on TH-cam when I was 10...It literally was the push I needed to pursue my dreams of being an artist,a comic artist at that. Now I’m here,16,and I already have most of my stories either started or written out, waiting to be turned into a comic. Thank you Porter Robinson, for this wonderful wonderful song.
I remember when this album released and man, it instantly became my favourite. My taste has changed since then, a lot of the stuff I listened to I no longer enjoy but this song remains as one of my favorites.
i'm so happy I found this, this song right here got me through a very dark time in my life when I was feeling alone, you Mr. Robinson have save me. Now I live a live full of love and lots of fun experiences. From the bottom of my heart, I want to say thank you.
If anyone who grew up with SNES or emulators got a crazily familiar sense of closure and massive goosebumps from 2:40 on, I found out why after literally 2 days of research and trying to remember: this part is heavily similar, and May have been inspires by "In Living Memory", the ending theme of Square' Tactical RPG Front Mission and one of the most moving scores of any Square or SNES game, able to rival Chrono Trigger's Soundtrack in Epicness and emotion. The whole scene is about the PC destroying something very dear to him and finally free to move on. I already loved Sea of Vocês, but after this I officially love Porter Robinson.
Is anyone there? Oh Hi Who survived? Somebody new? Anyone else but you? On a lonely night, Was a burning light A hundred leaders would be borne of you * And though I know, since you've awakened her again She depends on you, she depends on you She'll go alone, and never speak of this again We depend on you, we depend on you And though I know, since you've awakened her again She depends on you, she depends on you She'll go alone, and never speak of this again We depend on you, we depend (I'll depend) on you I don't know much about your life beyond these walls The fleeting sense of love within these god-forsaken halls And you can hear it in his voice, in every call This girl who's slept a hundred years has something after all And though I know, since you've awakened her again She depends on you, she depends on you I'll go alone, and never speak of you again We depend on you, we depend on you And though I know since you've awakened her again She depends on you, she depends on you She'll go alone, and never speak of this again We depend on you, we depend (I depend) on you

I'll depend on you
I had always interpreted this as awakening my inner child again. How she depends on me. Now that I've awakened her again I gotta heal all that shit. Sleeping 100years suppressing and self medicating. When I discovered this song I had just become sober, was pregnant and trying to do tons of shadow work. After I had her I started microdosing and that is where I healed and felt I awakened by inner child finally. She was still there. And now my child depends on me to continue to do the work and completely heal and break the generational curse/trauma.
i know Porter confirmed this song has nothing to do with Portal but the coincidences are insane. “this girl who slept a hundred years has something after all” gives me chills and makes me nostalgic for the time i first listened to this album, as well as my first playthrough of Portal 2 😭
I thought of Portal 2 while listening to it too! Even tho Chell woke up from hibernation, I feel like it fits GLaDoS better. She was asleep, and you woke her up, and now she depends on you (for testing). Whereas Chell doesn't exactly depend on GLaDoS.
well there probably is a story but I think that since Shelter talks about origins it is obviously set before this song since it talks about survivors and sleeping the theory will probably grow as more songs are probably going to be released it's getting pretty interesting though!
+MissIriee oh god this is nostalgic for me. i used this in one of my old old old animations and with an old character. i forgot all about her, and when i found the video in my files i started crying
I've made a timeline of 3 songs 1.) Goodbye to a world 2.) Shelter 3.) Sad Machine First, Goodbye to a World. The father of Rin from Shelter is noting this death of the world and he talks about it saying I will build a world, just our own (the shelter and Virtual Reality seen in Shelter). Now that the shuttle has ejected far from dead Earth, Rin is stuck on this shuttle in a virtual reality for a LONG time, but after about 7 years, her ai keeping her alive recalls all of her former selfs memories, and throws her into ultimate sadness flashback mode. (P.S. the Shelter described in the song is the fathers shuttle that he built for Rin). But after that, she gets a message . I don't know who from, but for the sake of this comment I'll say it was the machine keeping Rin alive. (Now onto Sad Machine, during/ after the world ending) The machine keeping Rin alive becomes self aware of all of Rin's memories and its own existence. This ai then somehow becomes sad and starts the events in Sad Machine. It talks of a blinding light (the collision with Earth and the other celestial body), within these god forsaken walls (within the shuttle/shelter), the other voice in Sad Machine being the father, saying that, she depends on you (Rin depends on her life support system) but the father can only speak with her for a short time so the Machine says, I'll go alone, and never speak of you again. Hope you enjoyed! Took me some time to think up. Write some extensions to this connected song universe down below!
But, it says "Since you've awakened her again" wouldn't that mean Rin is awake if she were the sad machine? It also says she slept 100 years, is she actually now the sad machine? Because both the sad machine and her are lonely, and always check on if there are other survivors from the world ending. But Rin would also be dead because 100 years+ would be hard to live. Especially in space. Though space's time would be slower, that's why 100+ years in space's time. But the one problem to your theory is that Sad Machine is about a boy who falls in love with a robot but they one day got separated and can't see each other again until the end. Even though Porter Robinson said that the stories are not connected, they SEEM connected. Maybe, if Porter Robinson were to think that since everyone thinks they're connected, he'll find a way for them to be connected.
Goodbye to a World sounds like "Lonely... I'm Mr. Lonely... I've got nobody..." at some parts. Both Rin and the Sad Machine were lonely, and always checked to see if anyone else survived, or at least was there with them. Even if Rin and the Sad Machine were female, still. It makes sense.
I imagine this whole album as an interconnected story, each song telling a different part of it. Honestly the story I imagined with it all really made me sad in the end
I was in year 4 at primary school when lockdown hit. This was the last song I heard at school before covid. The last time I felt happy. We were learning how to dance in the upstairs hall, where assemblies were hosted. I was surrounded by friends and enemies alike, but everyone was unified. I enjoyed life. I loved life and felt full. This banger has kept me going because it reminds me of pre covid. The governments of the world overreacted and I suffered. I am nearly 14. I was 9 when I last felt happy. This song has kept me going.
After listening to Hatsune Miku for a while, I kinda recognized the voice was vocaloid, and yes I actualy looked up if PR used vocaloid and yes he does, his favorite is GUMI, in fact.
@@marsbars6869 vocaloid is a voice synthesizer, its created by doing voice recordings and mixing them into a program for singing. Try looking up Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Len/Rin, Mergurine Luka etc. You use them by tuning them, hope this info helped ^^
Both buddy. A great quote from "Perks Of Being A Wallflower" encompasses this feeling perfectly - “So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be.”
I love this video. There's something so cathartic about watching a sharp, polygon hand traversing an equally sharp, harsh world, alone but determined, to join with a real hand who also had it's own journey
I remember being obsessed with this song when I was 13. I’m 19 now and I completely forgot about it until a few days ago and i’m glad I found it again :’)
I don't normally subscribe to TH-camrs, and even less so to Music Producers. This one though. Every single fucking song Porter Robinson takes part in, is just full-on legit. Nothing else to say. This Music Producer has earned my subscription, purely because of his amazing music. I'm an electronic music fanatic, and this guy is just feeding me the tunes I need lmao
catherine s my mother... She died when I was 12 I’m 17 now. My mom use to really depend on me. Ah.. before she got sick. Me and her use to have good times together... im crying again. I know this sounds boring sorry.
I know that this isn't what the song is about anyways, but I need to get this off my chest. A few years ago, I was going through a really hard time. I has depressed and suicidal and made plans for when to end my life. Then my grandmother found out she had cancer. Her and my mom were very close, just as I am with mine. I knew my mom was going to need us all to help her if she passed away. Unfortunately she died a few months later. Around the date I was going to take my own life away. She needed me to be there with her. So I tried to get better while helping her. This song just brings me back to all those emotions. Staying with someone so they can become better. Being someone that they depended on. And not taking my own life away selfishly so she wouldn't do the same. It was hard but we are both doing great. I'm glad I didn't die.
I’m not sure if I should trust you, but is it really true? This writing seems like such a cliche and is often found in every “depressed” comment. The reason why I’m speaking so harshly is because of the fact the comment section is so sad this it often seems like all of them are lies.
Phew, you're not dead. Bruh whatever happens don't take your fucking life away. Easy to destroy something but not so easy to get it back. Just remember, if you are through a lot of suffering, then some kinda great thing is going to happen to you later on. Just know that
rest in peace to your grandmother and I hope you're doing better, ily❤️ whenever you think of suicidal thoughts, just imagine everything you're going to miss and how much people you're going to hurt. no matter how bad your situation is, you'll be able to get through it. it's happened to me too before too.
Listened to this year's ago when I was MUCH much younger. My mom was still alive and I was on our family computer playing games, messing around on the American girl website and making outfits for my doll. I remember walking up to my mom and asking for her to buy the outfit, and her smiling softly at me before we bought it. We weren't too rich, we were starting to drift to lower class actually. So the fact she bought it for me even though it wasn't something I needed, and it was something more expensive than usual really stuck with me. Miss you mom, I love you. You were the best.

(My part) Ok, I agree with part of this, what if though, that the Robot is Rin, because humans can't live that long, and there are several other humans that survived, so Rin became an AI, what do you guys think?
I was really close to someone a long time ago now, and I remember finding out about this album through them initially before it became one of my favourites. I'd listen to it while making games or going through tough times, so it means a lot to me. Me and that person had a falling out 3 years ago and haven't talked or seen each other since really, and a lot of what we did and said really hurt so I haven't reconciled and never fully processed how to deal with it. but hey, singing along still reminds me of good times we had before things got rough.
I literally have the same situation, and I still don't know how to say sorry, it just feels so awkward. I've been thinking about it for a long time and I still don't have a solution.
First time hearing this song when I was in Senior Highschool. 10 years ago. When everything is sunshine and rainbows. I missed that time and my friends 😢
Goodby To A World, Sad Machine, and Shelter are my favorite Porter Robinson songs. All of them make cry sometimes. Thanks Porter for making me cry and happy with your amazing music. Continue to inspire. Edit: Hold up...this song reminds of Shelter. Maybe this song has something to do with Shelter? Nani? Maybe it's just me...
I've seen people say that this is about a robot girl and a human boy falling in love, but I can't help but make a connection with this and the other two. It's like this is Shelter 2 and Goodbye to a world is Paws. (That was a really bad joke about the game that made me discover Shelter in the first place but it fits. There's a game called Shelter, then there's Shelter 2 and Paws is a prequel to Shelter 2)
Jaimee Lee "And Tho i know, Since You've provoked her once gain, She's pissed off with you, She's Pissed off with you!!" I'm a fucking sad machine now D':
This music just feels so otherworldy, magical. It feels like traversing different dimensions or something. And it doesn't help that this was my favorite song when I was 10-11 years old. It's nostalgic to me now; i'm taken back to those summer nights where i'd be drawing ocs or writing up stories for them while talking to my friends through the phone about how our future will turn out or what we'll do in a zombie apocalypse. Or the car rides to school when the sky is purple, listening to this and imagining we're in a post-apocalyptic wasteland with how empty the highways are. It's escapism, i guess. I want to be a kid again, but now i'm in highschool and the world is becoming more bleak. I'm condemned to a boring life where most days are the same; work till you die and if you don't, risk being homeless. I want to escape from the world, but if i ignore reality, that'll make it harder for me. There's nothing magical anymore about purple skies, because that's just the reflection of the atmosphere as sunlight shines on it. There's nothing magical anymore about the future, because i know it'll all just go to shit. There's nothing magical anymore about the end of the world, because that would mean losing everything to violence or to a nuclear fallout, or to nature who's had enough of humans destroying it. It still feels like the end of the world, just in a less magical way.
Me as well bro. I was 9 or 10 hearing this on Roblox and streamed worlds more times than I could count when I was little. This is my all time favorite album now at 17
work doesnt have to be pain. the trick is to find something you love. if you are good a drawing still, go for graphic design perhaps? good luck, dont stop trying till you find what you love.
true poetry lies within the soul if you don't have one screw it your talented anyway for we as humans have still a lot to learn but you my friend or whoever wrote that are beyond the comprehension of the human soul
I love to think this computer is trying to generate the world outside, or beyond the walls, into her system, slowly adding color and beauty. Then having the time to play with shapes to simulate a human hand and holding it-- in a-- soon-to-be-- perfect-- [Tears rolling down face.]
This song is so much beautiful omg this feeling is so weird for me i don't understand why but sad machine and Goodbye to a world makes me sad and happy. I think this song is thr serenity itself

At the end of that song it sounds as if the robot is shutting down. In the beginning of this song she sings "Is anyone there? Who survived? Somebody new? My favorite part about this music video is how the lyrics function. The computerized voice appears as digital text while the orchestral voices appear as messy handwriting. It makes the song that much more distinctive

Triodium Gaming yeah maybe, but it gives hope to those who watched shelter
The Curator "this girl who's slept 100 years has something after all"
I don't understand this song whatsoever, yet I still feel like crying. A little passion can go a long way.
Like “She depends on you,” I was so happy when I stumbled upon that lyric."
So it's not necessarily "about" anything. Doesn't change the fact that it *feels* like a story, and an emotional one at that.
Mockingbird Inc. I feel the Same way
I think it's about Rin from "Shelter"? Cause from the shelter lyrics everything makes sense if you combine both the lyrics from sad machine. Rin left the pod "cause I left the home that you made me". She (maybe) returns to the ruined earth and she's like trying to save the people "we depend on you".
But that's just my own opinion about the songs and I don't know if that's the real story there.
Mockingbird Inc. then you understand it already. You don't always have to use words to understand something. it's all about the feeling.

One day he will die, and now she has to be there alone, now conscious in this wasteland she didn’t even fall asleep in to begin with.

+April Flowers so cute
I know I get that feeling but I think of my BF.
+Soom Aww I don't know why that made me really sad...
I've made a timeline of 3 songs
1.) Goodbye to a world
2.) Shelter
3.) Sad Machine
First, Goodbye to a World. The father of Rin from Shelter is noting this death of the world and he talks about it saying
I will build a world, just our own (the shelter and Virtual Reality seen in Shelter).
The song is called "Gooodbye to A World" :O
Cosmogyral Scintilla thanks! Ill edit that
But, it says "Since you've awakened her again" wouldn't that mean Rin is awake if she were the sad machine?
SOMEONE MAKE THIS A MOVIE
Goodbye to a World sounds like "Lonely... I'm Mr. Lonely... I've got nobody..." at some parts. Both Rin and the Sad Machine were lonely, and always checked to see if anyone else survived, or at least was there with them. Even if Rin and the Sad Machine were female, still. It makes sense.

I was 9 when I last felt happy.
This song has kept me going.

Ok i think i laughed at this more than i should have
wow it sure is strange that a comment made 3 months earlier than yours had this exact same joke but better
It’s funny how people like you will plagiarise other people’s comments for validation online. Truly hilarious.

@@SAM_ARTHUR_CL0VVNDOLL the world is so small.
hey fun fact:
this song is actually a vocaloid song! the vocaloid is Avanna
After listening to Hatsune Miku for a while, I kinda recognized the voice was vocaloid, and yes I actualy looked up if PR used vocaloid and yes he does, his favorite is GUMI, in fact.
What is a vocaloid?
@@marsbars6869 vocaloid is a voice synthesizer, its created by doing voice recordings and mixing them into a program for singing. Try looking up Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Len/Rin, Mergurine Luka etc.
You use them by tuning them, hope this info helped ^^
@@fjr1799 YES GUMI GANG
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO MENTIONS VOCALOID WHERE HAVE YOU BEENNNN
Am... Am I supposed to be happy, or cry?
Please, I'm so confused
Both buddy. A great quote from "Perks Of Being A Wallflower" encompasses this feeling perfectly - “So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be.”
@@jakemerino5496 Thanks, That's actually really inspirational!
Megan Glen this song is a source of euphoria, it is bittersweet in a way so do either.
It's a blissfulness melancholy
Yes
That little intro is probably the cutest thing i've ever heard and will ever hear 👌♥️ !
best album for escapism ever crafted. it really was safe within these godforsaken halls. thank you, Porter.
OMG I´VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS FUCKING SONG HAS BEEN 9 MONTHS
kudos to u then

Same here. Because of Shelter I had traced this song. 😀
"She depends on you, she depends on you"
Makes me think about my mother
catherine s actually same
Same
Ur profile is accurate
Literally me
catherine s my mother...
I couldn't even imagine the pain you are going through. You are not alone. sorry about my english
Thank you. It was a while ago and I'm better now, but it really is an emotional song. At least for me.
Just know that
rest in peace to your grandmother
and I hope you're doing better, ily❤️
whenever you think of suicidal thoughts, just imagine everything you're going to miss and how much people you're going to hurt. no matter how bad your situation is, you'll be able to get through it. it's happened to me too before too.
(I copied part of this from another comment on a theory) (copied part) Porter has said that the song was supposed to be about a human boy falling in love with a robot girl.
*Edit - I've listened to Goodbye To A World a couple times and I think its possibly the prequel (or could be a sequel ) because the vocaloid sings
Thank you, I'll say goodbye soon,
Though its the end of the world,
Don't blame yourself now
And if its true,
I will surround you and give life to a world
That's our own
At the end of that song it sounds as if the robot is shutting down. In the beginning of this song she sings "Is anyone there? Who survived? Somebody new? (possibly him reborn a new person) Anyone else but you? (this could be interpreted in a couple ways such as she doesn't realize it's him reborn and is hoping her lover is with him or now that he's been reborn she doesn't want to bombard him with weird ideas that he's been reborn, so she is just talking to him in a casual way and knows she has to make him fall in love with her again) On a lonely night was a blinding light (Him being reborn and her waking/ rebooting to a bright night sky )
Also skipping ahead when she says "And you can hear it in his voice in every call, this girl who's slept a hundred years has something after all" It could mean she can hear the reminiscence of the previous him breaking through in the way he speaks.
(My part)
Ok, I agree with part of this, what if though, that the Robot is Rin,
because humans can't live that long, and there are several other humans
that survived, so Rin became an AI, what do you guys think?
uh oh Porter has said that this and Shelter/Rin have nothing to do with each other
your comment made me think of Chobits
Holy shit
you wrote an essay i'll read it later
thats too bad, because this song and Shelter, and good bye to a world could have connection. between them.
I was really close to someone a long time ago now, and I remember finding out about this album through them initially before it became one of my favourites. I'd listen to it while making games or going through tough times, so it means a lot to me.
Me and that person had a falling out 3 years ago and haven't talked or seen each other since really, and a lot of what we did and said really hurt so I haven't reconciled and never fully processed how to deal with it. but hey, singing along still reminds me of good times we had before things got rough.
i know how it feels
I literally have the same situation, and I still don't know how to say sorry, it just feels so awkward.
I've been thinking about it for a long time and I still don't have a solution.
Hope it got better bro!
So a mainstream artist uses vocaloid? Ok im happy now
I thought the same thing, and didn't Farrell Williams make a song with Miku?
+just no i think so
+Midnight Ashes He did a remix of Last Night Good Night
+Midnight Ashes Legit, I was like... This reaaallyyy sounds like vocaloid.... hahah
+Midnight Ashes yeah, it completely sounds like oliver, do you know if it actually is his voice?
First time hearing this song when I was in Senior Highschool. 10 years ago. When everything is sunshine and rainbows. I missed that time and my friends 😢

Goodby To A World, Sad Machine, and Shelter are my favorite Porter Robinson songs. All of them make cry sometimes. Thanks Porter for making me cry and happy with your amazing music. Continue to inspire.
Edit: Hold up...this song reminds of Shelter. Maybe this song has something to do with Shelter? Nani? Maybe it's just me...
I always listen to them in order like you listed, they just form a beautifully sad story that my mind can't comprehend so I can't explain it.
There's a game called Shelter, then there's Shelter 2 and Paws is a prequel to Shelter 2)
so sweet. this literally made me cry. melancholy and sad at the same time
Jaimee Lee Chill Out, He was trying to explain you something. Geez.
LMFAO CHTrulez LOOK "MELANCHOLY" on that comment xD
Felipe Valencia who are you to tell me what to do.........?
*gawd*
Jaimee Lee "And Tho i know, Since You've provoked her once gain,
She's pissed off with you, She's Pissed off with you!!"
I'm a fucking sad machine now D':
I didn't expect you to be such a bitch, Jaimee.
It still feels like the end of the world, just in a less magical way.
god porter robinson was my childhood, hit the nail on the head with the age too
Me as well bro. I was 9 or 10 hearing this on Roblox and streamed worlds more times than I could count when I was little. This is my all time favorite album now at 17

work doesnt have to be pain. the trick is to find something you love. if you are good a drawing still, go for graphic design perhaps? good luck, dont stop trying till you find what you love.

true poetry lies within the soul
if you don't have one screw it your talented anyway
for we as humans have still a lot to learn but you my friend or whoever wrote that are beyond the comprehension of the human soul
and i agree with you on that
Those lyrics are just insanely memorable. They get me every damn time.
My favourite part
This song will always be glados' for me. Just such heavy portal vibes
