The Ukrainian force is obviously top-notch and will take a great deal of beating. Sending these against some of Ukraine's best fighting forces selected for this operation is surely going to be a bloodbath that'll bring the war 'home' for the otherwise unaffected Putin supporters in Moskow and St. Petersburg. Even if Putin manages to fight back the Ukranians, it will still be his loss.
