  • This is the DM Commentary version. For the normal one, go here:
    • FULL 2010 Robot Chicke...
Chris Perkins DM's another celebrity game, this time featuring the creative team that makes Robot Chicken. In this version, Perkins adds voice-overs for most of the game about the art of being a Dungeon Master, how he set up the campaign, tips and tricks and humorous touches. It's best to see the NORMAL version first. The BLIPVERTED version is in the works.

This video is GOLD. Having the GM share his live insight on what he is doing and why he is doing it is incredibly valuable for new DMs like me :3
    Mooore!

I just had the idea that commentary over a d&d session would be super helpful for me before DMing my first d&d session, and lo and behold it exists! Absolute gold indeed!

This is a totally enjoyable session of gaming to watch. I watched most of it as the normal video and watched the whole thing with the DM commentary. So I've probably invested about 5 hours into this particular session and it was worth it. Very entertaining and fun.

"So to the people who say Fourth Edition D&D isn't about roleplaying, I say... 'You're dumb!'."
    God, I love Chris Perkins.

I do like the idea of using a rotting, empty beholder to hide spidernests in. Pretty nice :)

i actually lead a campaign with this. i changed a few things, like the dwarven face was prideful and though was imbued with magic to speak all languages, refused to speak in any language other than Dwarven. it made for a language gap problem the PCs had to play past. and i think Chris mentioned that the merc. that their 'customer' had looked tough but would go down easy had they fought him. i NPCed him into the encounter. He was a Bard and turned out to be useless in battle screaming and crying at the first sight of violence 'Im just and actor'. the PCs ended up having to carry him through the encounter, he was kind of the cheat with high knowledge checks for the dungeon, but 0 combat ability. another thing i did was the return from recovering the item, upon their return they found the city watch investigating their customer's murder (who happened to be a foreign noble and a guest of the King in the city) and I ended the encounter with their characters being arrested and their fates unknown. nice cliff hanger.

I am no expert, and I am learning 4th edition now after not playing since the 1980s. But what I have seen is that these maps are vinyl and you can draw on them an erase them. The one that I have seen most people talk about is made by Chessex, and that one has squares on one side and hexes on the other. Maybe other people will know better though.

That is the Chessex MEGAMAT, you can find it on amazon, it's like 40$.

I would love to see / hear perkins do his take on "Keep on the Borderlands" as a kind of starter session. For beginning players AND beginning DM's. In addition to some commentary of ADnD vs 5E conversions. Both session prepared and on the fly methods. A kind of homage to the original game and tutorial.

He mentioned DMs who roll behind the screen or in front. What I used to do was keep several different colored D. I would write down on a piece of paper which was the real D. Then I would roll ALL the dice in front of the players, but only I knew which one was the real number. If they challenged me I would just present the paper...then punish them them for challenging the DM.

I'm confused. When they entered the room they had to climb UP to access the ice covered water? Doesn't water flow downhill? Gravity? Wouldn't it have filled the passage they came through?

  • @VioletDeliriums
    @VioletDeliriums 11 ปีที่แล้ว

I am curious what makes you say that? It seems to me that all worked well together, even when they seemed to be acting on their own, and they had a great time doing it. I don't see how Dan (playing Jaundice the Mauve) or Doug (playing Steel Diamond) played any better or worse than anyone else. What exactly is the problem you see?

As DM I only 'cheat' when player's hitpoints are dropping like flies.
I often find that my players do a lot of damage but can't take really much themselves.

this is essentially what Twitch is. Critical Role (Matt Mercer and a bunch of other voice actors play 5e D&D for Geek & Sundry) play every Thursday, and there's a decent amount of other groups who also stream. you can see what channels are playing D&D here: www.twitch.tv/directory/game/Dungeons%20%26%20Dragons
I'm not sure if other tabletop RPGs have their own listings
