  • Would a super limited edition set of 78 rpm, shellac records appeal to any music fans or collectors?

Someone out there can still press shellacs as the Preservation Hall Jazz Band pressed one a few years back with Tom Waits.

Ahhh I was unaware of that. Much of the early 50's and earlier were recorded on wire recorders and many of the original wires are lost, destroyed or unusable. Much of the vinyl reissues (even in the 60's) from those 78's were needle drops. I believe some of the original SUN masters were lost or tossed by RCA when they made new masters that added some reverb, etc. I believe the Elvis at Sun collection has some needledrops so the original sound was represented. Thanks for watching. Great info

    I wouldn’t
I don’t think my VPI Avenger Reference plays 78 so that’ll be my bottleneck

Many Turntables do not have the ability. I have read on various forums thru the years that some audiophile who have 78's buy a cheap Audio Technica deck just for playing such.

I think other than just collectibility, no real reason to buy 78s then.
