      The only way complaints work is if the person goes down there and files the complaint and writes the complaint in person. The chief or sergeant will try to ask you for other ways to deal with it but you have to tell them, no I wanna written formal complaint against that officer. That's what sticks to the officers jacket aka (record)

      You should ask for a 'Formal Written Complaint' then once you finish it, take a picture of it. And FOIA That very complaint to ensure that it was filled out. If they can't find it, then it wasn't put into the system.

      It's the good officers out there that must stand up against these tyrants. Refresh yourself on the law. 6 weeks training is a joke. Better officers come with better training and experience in following the law on the streets.
      Peace officers. We pay them. We gotta get on the same page and respect each other. Education, truth, transparency, and deescalation on scenes would be a phenomenal start! Whatever side you think you are on, learn the law

      Oddly I can't blame him for trying. If someone complained about one of my coworkers and said they wanted to make a formal complaint I'd probably tell them they have made a formal complaint to me and it's taken care of. And then I'd go tell my coworker that he is lucky that the person complaining didn't say they wanted to document their complaint and just that they wanted to make a formal complaint.
      If it's not in writing then it can be brushed off and minimized.

      It's called he can't file the proper documents without getting ID's from both people in the incident. The cop taking him to jail would mean that he would have to present ID, which would then mean that he would actually be able to file the incident report properly, which would then mean that he would be able to then help the guy that was hit.

      @@jeffallen619 if the police don't have ID from both parties then an accident report can not be properly filed. Unless its a case of hit and run and even then its hard to do anything because they do not have another individual. If a police officer asks you for ID during an incident like this just fucking give it to them they are trying to do their job and you refusing to do so complicates things for yourself if you were the one hit.

      same thing happened to me october 8 yesterday I went to the police department to press charges after 4 months ( ok?) they wouldn comply but they had my name, 3 hours later they sent police to apologies and register my complaint / Its always documented they have to make report , And black boss cop is not loosing his job over a white low level police offiver that is racist anyways.. lol They have to act non chalant this is the code of police, they cannot be too agressive between each other , But no boss even white is boss for a reason and would not loose his bonuses and pension for a stupid police officer that is white . Would you get in trouble and loose your grade for an idiot? Black man police is not the same...

    A formal complaint is only made in person, by the complainant, at the department using the appropriate forms. You MUST follow through with that for it to reflect on his record.

      Untrue, any and all evidence prior to formalities isn't negated due to time frames. Any and all information, actions and claims made are subject to law. Stating that the formal complaint has begun is certainly lawful, and admissible in the court of law as a "formal complaint" regardless of district police "policy".
      The formal complaint began the exact moment the gentleman said he was filing a formal complaint.

      Fun fact is that cops are by law supposed to have a body camera on them at all times while on duty. Found out after this post not all states mandate police body cams but i do believe it's best to have them for police and civilian safety

      Not all police / sheriff depts have body cams. Some have dash cams, but not body cams...and some have both. Also, who doesn't bring their ID wherever they go? It's the 21st century...you need ID for "practically" everything...especially in cases like these.

      ​@@piratecat990 it isnt a case of needing to show id you are not required to show your i.d unless you are suspected in a crime or are being arrested he didnt do anything wrong he was in the designated bike lane but bicycles are allowed to ride on the road anyway there wasnt really an accident or collision more of a bumping and neither the truck driver nor the bicycllist was trying to make a deal of it so the officer is 100% in the wrong here

    I tried to make a formal complaint once. The sergeant I spoke to told me flat out that nothing would be done. They knew I was right. But nothing would be done.

      Depending on the level of offense by the officer involved, take whatever information and evidence you may have to the local media. Some of them will jump on stories of police corruption.

May I add, because they are so untrustworthy....... that you video the Complaint Form with your signature on it being placed through the window or handed to the person receiving it so that it is clear to any judge and or jury that they received it. Another approach might be, and this is going to cost you a little money, but send it through the mail either registered or certified, whichever one requires them to sign for it.

      The truck turned right but the Cyclist failed to yield since he got more than enough time to stop causing the accident
      Now that does not justify the truck driver but right here
      The accident could be avoided and if the police were nearby they could have gotten the truck driver for endangered driving
      That's my reasoning
      If there was no cop nearby and the truck driver got malicious intentions we may not see this guy
      In This video 3 people where wrong
      The truck driver for making a right turn without signal and on the left lane
      The biker for failing to yield to traffic
      For interrupting accident investigations by neglecting his ID

    Police officers are also supposed to wear their cameras anytime that they are on duty, in order to capture all events and interactions. Florida law also requires departments that use body cameras to follow the proper regulations on how to preserve and maintain footage within their department's database.

      Not in Florida. Sheriffs actually fight getting body ams and dashcams. Cameras make them accountable, and we can't have deputies be held accountable to anyone but the sheriff, can we?       That would be a documented complaint. He did make a formal complaint, to that officer, and it probably won't go any further lol.
      Kind of similar to how if I worked retail and someone assumed they could complain about a fellow coworker to me. I'd try to minimize it and calm the customer down, while also protecting my coworker unless I hated them. I'm not going to reply back that they have to document their complaint.
      Hopefully the other officers are going to give him a hard time about being an idiot. I know I would if my coworker did something stupid and I managed to bail them out like that officer did.

    Reminds me when I was 19 I got rear ended. We both pulled into a parking lot, no one called the cops but the one showed up. He walked up to me angry and was saying I must be reckless and I’m too young to be driving and how I was probably on my phone.
    I let him finish and say “look idiot, no one asked you out here, it’s minor damage, and HE (points to guy) rear ended me while I was stopped, he even admits he was distracted. So kindly leave me alone”

    Dear public: Don't complain to the cops about another cop. They don't care. Next time when a cop tells you stupid stuff just stay calm, and go to the department and make a complaint the following day. Never react when you're emotional.

    You do have to provide ID when you have an accident with a vehicle, whether it’s your fault or not. It clearly states in the statute when you damage someone’s property or they damage yours you can’t just leave.

      Police do not have to get involved in an accident. It can be settled between the two parties without the cops. As long as they are not called. They are not supposed to intervene. I was told this directly by a cop during an accident. While just bullshitting waiting for a tow truck.
