Hi Monty. Like your new tent design. Started with the Vango ( made in Govan) original canvas force 10 back in the early 70s. They are still making good quality equipment. Cheers, Jim.
Hi, Monty! Loved the new tent; it will be bombproof and roomy enough when you're stuck inside for extended periods of bad weather. Excellent photography this vid. Very immersive, the sounds and images of nature as art in wind, fire and water. Nice video of your camp, nice wee tent that, it’s always about to rain here in the west. I’m up the Carman hill this weekend, but have a nice wee place up the Trossachs no body goes
Is that the hill you can see from Dumbarton/Balloch? And I know of one places no one knows about in the Trossachs! My first video. Well, I've seen one other person camp there on TH-cam. I found it by pure accident. Hope you get a rainy camp mate. Thanks for popping by and being a superhero.
Those giant "C" doodads are supposed to hold both poles; one corner to corner pole coupled with a front or rear pole. On one of my tents, that clamp has an additional mini bungee which you wrap both poles and secure the bungee in a notch in the "C" clamp. They're pretty important for structural stability. I would think wind stability being their primary function.
Yeah I knew that, but there was no wind hence no guy ropes tied out, so I didn't bother with them. However I do believe I incorrectly set up the vestibule poles! I'm gonna pitch it again in my mate's garden so I can master is before it goes up a mountain.
Ah Christ. See if it bursts after 1 use lol. Pete, I don't know if you can recall in my earlier videos where I was complaining about sleep and comfort, but this has been a game changer and it has helped. I wouldn't take it below temps around 5/6c if you are warm sleeper with a closed cell foam mat, as it's a summer mat. Let me try at the weekend as temps are to get down to around 3c where I'm going. I'll do this for you mate lol.
@@MontyOutdoors thanks. You are a true altruist and I shall reward you with youtube likes up the ying yang if you survive 😂. well Monty the wife and I use the OEX coyote 111, the best thing is the fly goes up first so if its raining the inner doesnt get wet and tons of room , It has a hydro head of 5000 and if need be I can string a tarp over to make it even more. All in all a great video mate
I had the OEX Coyote. It was my first tent and it was a belter. I had it out in 60-65 mph winds and it handled it with ease. It's a palace. I gave it to someone who was struggling for money so it has a new home, but it's a great tent :) Thanks for watching and for your input mate. ATB.
Jimmy. I'm not one for exposure. Hopefully I'll move onto other things before that happens. Last thing I want is to be famous lol. But thank you so much for the kind comments. People like yourself make me feel and learn :)
@@MontyOutdoors no worries mate your doing good stuff. You could get into camp breaks for mental well-being or an angle off of that. You've got talent man just keep it going 🙂
@@hnahler Yeah, that's the infuriating thing about camping: major sacrifices. So I am 6 foot 3 with a poor back and poor sleep so I aim for comfort therefore space. Sadly I need to sacrifice weight for this! I don't mind carrying heavy but it does come with injury risks.
Nice tent, however I’d prefer the Berghaus Grampian which is very similar to the vango, but it pitches all in one without the need for an inner pitch, which it’s a must in Scotland to keep the tent dry when pitching in the rain. 👍🏻
Yeah, I recommended the Grampian to someone as a cheaper alternative. The downsides to the MTN F10 are: inner first (it's a pain,) weight, and pack size. But it's a strong mofo and a lovely colour! I was thinking of getting the Grampian, but I couldn't find it anywhere in green and I'm a fan of vango. Appreciate the input and thanks for watching GG.
Peter... you all know my opinion on that utterly magnificent tent. I had it for like 2 years till I saved up and got this bad boy. I really don't like inner first, but we can work with it lol.
Great content monty. The tent looks great… I’m going to start camping soon and will be getting a beginners type set up and add to it the more experienced I become…. Keep up the great the great workmate 👍🏼

Great video mate like the new tent, loving Scotland please next time you’re next to an amazing river like that cast a line out mate never know ya luck, be awesome to see you catch a fish and cook it. 👍
Great looking tent, also liked the way your friend made the porch on his tent out of a tarp and walking pole. If that was me and I couldn't wipe off that brown stuff off the tent it'd be going straight back, I'm picky like that!
That's a well known setup with the Bobcat. Both of them accommodate each other very well. Yeah, I've e-mailed them. So I'll let you know what they say. Chris, can you drop me an e-mail please?
I got a response back: I actually have a Force Ten Xenon tent that has these marks on it and Force Ten confirmed that it was just a mark from the machinery while being made and it has no effect on the tent itself nor will it cause any issues in the future. If was just where the wheel of the machine fed the material through and marked it in the process. No idea what that means, but sounds harmless lol.
Great Video Monty. Glad you got your new tent finally, I hope it lives up to your expectations and lasts for years! Closest thing I've had to that tent was my vango odyssey, more poles than you could shake a.... Errr pole at. Unfortunately back in the day they were very susceptible to uv degredation, and mine faded and started to tear very easily. All the best 👍
Is the Vango Odyssey still not going!? Did you not have that out in mental winds. I'm sure you told me about a story regarding that. And glad you enjoyed it, sir! Hopefully more world class content coming to legends like yourself real soon :) Hope all is well big man.
@@MontyOutdoors I can't say I've seen them online recently, or indeed for years, though they may still be using the odyssey name. Yes, well remembered! The worst weather I've ever camped in, it was the only tent left standing by morning..... The roads were covered in tree debris, was a proper storm. Thanks as ever for your reply, best wishes to you too 😊👍
Downside to this tent mate is the weight and pack size. The thing is HUGE. But it can handle winds over 90mph lol. Vango, OEX, and Naturehike are my to go :) Thanks for watching and for your input Anthony.
Another great video in the genre of 'we had a great time camping in the p*****g rain'. Insanely jealous (well maybe not quite jealous in that much rain)! Tent doesn't look bad either.
I have 1 more rainy camping video coming up lol and then it's a dry one. Not looking forward to uploading that one haha. But thanks again for the support, Gordon. Much appreciated, sir!
Such an awesome spot for a camp, you’ve been there before haven’t you? It looked familiar. The tent looks seriously robust, my only worry would be that when you open the fly sheet door the inner is going to get wet in heavy rain. Those sloped inner doors are not always great as rain gets inside. I hope you love it as much as you hoped you would. Another great vid as always. Everyone is very quiet and well behaved when you film in the evenings 😂🤣😂
Yeah, 3 times before, I just haven't been on this side of the loch. It's Loch Drunkie. Yeah that's another downside to the tent, it's like the Cloud Peak where the inner pokes out beyond the the door. For a tent of its value, this shouldn't happen but at the same time, very little rain does get in. The major downside with it, is the the inner first pitch that takes AGEEESSSSS. But it's bombproof and I want a bombproof tent. I flex my muscles and go "shhhhh" lol. Hope you are well x
@@MontyOutdoors yes we’ve got a bombproof Vango mountaineering tent (bright orange?!?!) which is a good few years old now but it’s the same pitch inner first! Annoying! Anyway glad you’re happy with it 😍😘
Lovely video. When you choose a camping ground, possible to share with us please, what is a good ground to place the tend and what to avoid. We certainly can learn more from your experiences. Thk u Sir.
Anywhere is fine Raymond. The groundsheets are made of exceptionally strong material and are well made. Probably best not to do on gravel/stone, but apart from that you're all good to go. Sadly flat ground doesn't really exist and it'll generally be uneven.
@@MontyOutdoors No, I ended up in Edinburgh for a few days. Im off after Sunday so I'm hoping to get a wee camp done whilst i'm off for a few days. Hope you got your car fixed.
Aye,a nice looking tent Monty. It seemed to be fine in heavy rain and because of the extra poles in the structure ,it will stand up to the wind really well.Good choice of music during the drone shots.Again nice to see a selection of tent`s in action. All in all a very enjoyable and relaxing wee video ATB
Thanks Graeme. Appreciate the support as usual mate. I believe I pitched the tent incorrect so will need to try again before I take it out in a storm lol. Hope you and those close to you are safe and healthy man.
Yeah what a amazing tent it has loads of space inside it and it look as though you have a different light inside also to illuminate it or was that you camera Id be interested to know if you could cook in the vestibule?
I have 3 lights. 2 torches and 1 the one on my phone. 1 torch is a head torch only and the other has a lantern. Big believe in bringing more than one headtorch incase one fails. And yeah you can cook in that vestibule. A small pot, small frying pan, Jetboil and Ridgemonkey would all do the trick. It's a small vestibule but enough for cooking.
This looked great. The sound of the rain was amazing. Tell us more about why you wanted and enjoy your new tent, please. If I got a tent, I’d need a two man with a very generous vestibule. What would you recommend? Also popped on the live but hadn’t seen this video and I wanted to see what the conditions were like. Lovely!
I was going to do another video on why this is my dream tent. It's by no means perfect, but it's the Geodesic design, space, and it's Vango are why it's my dream tent. It's an award winning, reliable tent for extreme winds. If you want a 2 man tent, that's spacious, can handle strong winds and has a generous vestibule, then the Crua Outdoors one. They also do one with an insulated inner... I'm currently having condensation issues with it, but they've potentially sent me an older model. It's a bigger version of the Mirage. Other tents with good vestibules are Naturehike Oplaus and Cloud Peak.
Lovely spot man. Awesome tent as well. Love the idea of the two doors. Looks like a very wise purchase. You seem to have a knack for catching the rain 😆
How you doing man? Thanks again for last night, sir. Much appreciated. I'm off out tomorrow, so hopefully we have plenty of rain. I actually went about 5 months without rain earlier on in the year which was very annoying. There's a video of me ranting about it lol.
@@MontyOutdoors yes I'm good thank man, you? It's all good. Watch your channel all the time so glad to help out. Plus it was a good live, everyone is really nice. I'm get a bit anxious with people so I don't get out much apart from nursery run appointments etc but feel really relaxed in your lives. Nice man. Yes a little rain is good like. Its really relaxing just lying listening to it hitting off the tent or tarp. Helps me sleep lol. Aye, lol I'll have a look for that man.
That's an interesting way to blow up your mattress. I need to give that technique a try sometime, LOL! Are you ever worried that the fire will produce sparks and put a holes in your tarp? Very nice sleeping weather Monty. ~RVA~
I've never had that problem with my tarp, but others have. My mate's going destroyed by sparks. Usually the tarp is up in the rain, so when a spark hits it, it's instantly cooled. When my mates was up it was to block wind, so the sparks just went through it. Thanks for popping by J. Appreciated :)
Hi mate, I have the same marks on my MTN2, they all have it, I believe it's the way they pack it. I think the rubber zip storm flap causes it. I have a video which shows the tent in reasonably high wind, if you are interested. Few things to note: -add guys to side as otherwise in the wet the outer will stick to the inner. -connect the big 4 G style clips around the cross pole connections, as this adds to the tents integrity. -although they are annoying, in heavy wind guy out the vestibules as they make a big difference to the tents rigidity. -watch out for spindrift getting between inner and outer, freezing to the inner then melting and making you wet. Small snow wall around base of tent fixed it for me. Really liking your content, bit more real world than others. Also, is Gaz always so serious?
Mate. I've watched your video LOADS of times and you are a contributing factor as why I got that tent 😂. I spoke to the company and they said it's something to do with the the machine wheel feeding the material through and marked in the process. I have no idea what they meant by it, but it has zero impact on performance. I've been meaning to add the guys to the side, but I don't see the point in guying out in this video as there was no wind. I'm aware what the caribeners do too, I just didn't connect them as there was no wind. But thank you for the incredibly helpful advice as I may be out with it this weekend. Someone said I set the poles up incorrectly but I don't see how? I think they said the arch poles go in front of the connected poles but that doesn't sound or look right. What do you think? And thanks mate. Appreciated! And yes 😂 but a lovely and world class bloke none the less. You should see us both off camera if you think he's serious haha.
@@MontyOutdoors no way, that's really cool to hear. I couldn't find anything online about the tent, so thought it might help give people an idea of it's capabilities on the hill in serious conditions. Same, I don't guy out in calm conditions, just not necessary, especially if down low and forecast not due to change (controversial and I'm sure armchair critics will disagree haha.) After mentioning the caribeners I noticed you addressed it in another response, so sorry about that.. You are obviously a seasoned hiker/camper so apologies. You had the pole configuration right as far as I'm concerned. Only difference is I connect the axial pole first, then the two silver ones, then start clipping from the base up (evens the stress) - don't think there is a right and wrong though, just what works. When it's wet, windy and cold.. Just get the damn thing up, right! The silver poles on the outside wouldn't work as well, as the porch guy pulls that pole into the axial ones which is attached to the fly using the velcro which is what effectively strengthens it when under stress. When you add side guys, mind and use the toggles to attach it to the inner (I nearly always forget and it's a faff to do at a later stage!) Thanks for taking the time to reply. If you come up with any good tips for the tent, please shout them out in your next vid as what I know is just what I have learnt through trial and error myself!
@@KramF10 excuse me butting in here, but I've just bought the MTN2, and put it up for the first time today- same brown marks on the fly as seen here, but in a slightly different place. Both on the vestibule doors though. Its mad that it passed QC at the factory but like you Mike I suspected it was from the storm flap too.. some weird rubber oxidation or something. Anyways, I'm not arsed about it and really pleased with the shelter. It's huge inside! I caught your vids too when I was researching the tent, the ones of the Vango getting a hammering up in the Cairngorms?! Good stuff. Feels great to have something that will take it 👍 Ps did your tent come supplied with the side panel guys? Mine didn't but I added some of my own. I was surprised it didn't come with them.
Only just started watching this video and noticed you hadn't set the tent up correctly. Those 4 carabiner clips on the inner fly hold the poles together to make an even stronger structure. The silver poles go outside the green poles. Apart from that the tent is totally bombproof. I've had it in 45mph wind with 2 guy ropes not pegged down and it's been fine. Love how you find all these wonderful spots to camp. Keep it up Monty...
First time pitching it mate lol. Wasn't entirely sure what I was doing but I do need to revisit it, but thank you so much for highlighting this, because when I'm out in a storm... Thankfully there were no winds where I was, hence why I never guyed it. I read a review where it handled 90mph winds with ease and I've seen it out in 50mph and the thing barely moved. Again, thank you so much for the feedback and glad you are enjoying the content mate :)
I might be interested if it’s light enough….how much does it weigh ? I’ve already got a Ferrino snowbound 2 and a Northface ve-25…..both very rugged mountaineering tents but they both come in around 10 lbs !
You're not messing about with that f10 bad badboy eh Monty? That looks like it'll take a beating for sure. I have a very old version of that it's called a f10 Baltoro and it's about 14 years old. Weighs a tonne but very strong. ATB mate.
I can't wait to have it out on flat ground, nice and taut, flysheet to the ground and all guy ropes out lol. It's by no means perfect, it's heavy and bulky but if you want strength... Just looked at it mate, looks to be an older version of the one I have. Did you have it out in strong winds? I've got a Vintage F10 appearing in my videos soon btw :)
@@MontyOutdoors aye, it can take a fair whipping mate. They all follow the classic geodesic shape of the TN Quasar tbh. Is your vintage F10 the old orange colored a frame tent? They are magnificent tents.....if very heavy. They still sell them I think.
Hi . I've got the old boltoro and the mountain 2 .They are brilliant tents ,had mountain 2 out in storm Katy a few years ago at 800 metres. It got pushed around a bit but never looked like it was going to fail, I could barely stand up out side. I think for the strength the weight is pretty good, a lot better than a blacklabel hillieberg and half the price. Great camp atb
@@willbrownless8739 100% Will, it's a beast for sure. Love mine but tends to be a Basecamp tent. Up in the hills it's a two man / split the weight gig. That's a baltiro in its own right ......learn to drink Whisky.....or don't drink at all. ATB Will
Great video again! I loved the sound of the rain. On the tent: I notice it's a nylon (polyamid) rainfly. Although in the video it seems the rainfly stays pretty taut, my experience is nylon flies tend to sag a bit when they get wet. How was your experience with that? On the Vango tents that I have seen, I always liked that you don't have to pitch the inner first. In the video, you do pitch inner first. Is it possible and practical to pitch inner and outer together or outer first with this one?
Thanks for watching. Much appreciated :) Yeah Nylon sags, but I don't recall having an issue with this one. Maybe it's because it's first outing in the rain, or the individual Nylon fibres don't sag as much? My Naturehike tents sag badly though. So yeah, I got this tent as it says it can be put up flysheet first then inner, but a footprint is required. But there doesn't appear to be online and anecdotal evidence points not Vango saying it's not possible. I'm gonna have to e-mail them and I'll get back to you fully on this. It's awful putting an inner first up in rain...
Aye up Monty how are you loved the tent only problem for me is the pitching i prefer inner/outer pitch together . The drone footage brilliant as usual .Atb👍
Same mate, but thankfully I have plenty of inner/outer pitched together and I'll just need to time the pitch before the rain arrives! Glad you enjoyed it mate and hope all is well :)

I'm a hot sleeper so I'll likely try it with a silver foam mat in a week or two. If it's pump though it's £25 quid, hardly the end of the world. Might whinge about you though 😂
I love the sounds of the rain and the fire - you should do a softly spoken ASMR video👍
Hey Victoria :) Thanks for watching. I am thinking about doing an ASMR video in future with the rain hitting off all sorts: branches, trees, plants, tarp, tent, etc,. You have a great idea that has been stemming inside me!

well Monty the wife and I use the OEX coyote 111, the best thing is the fly goes up first so if its raining the inner doesnt get wet and tons of room , It has a hydro head of 5000 and if need be I can string a tarp over to make it even more.
ATB.

Good luck pitching that tent in the rain. The inner will be soaked. The structure looks like a cheap knock-off of a TNF VE-25.
Mate. My house is a cheap knock off of the TNF VE-25 lol. And I am not looking forward to pitching this in the rain at all. It's real downside.
It certainly looks like a hotel room for one in the outdoors. I don’t fancy carrying that too far but would love the comfort and space.
Great sound of the rain!
Great to hear it brought your comfort, Hannah :)
Monty how much of your life do you spend drying tents? Taking inspiration to not worry about rain and just go, the drying but.
Love the vestibule at each end. Love how solid the set up is.

That's a well known setup with the Bobcat. Both of them accommodate each other very well.
Yeah, I've e-mailed them. So I'll let you know what they say.
Chris, can you drop me an e-mail please?
I got a response back:
I actually have a Force Ten Xenon tent that has these marks on it and Force Ten confirmed that it was just a mark from the machinery while being made and it has no effect on the tent itself nor will it cause any issues in the future. If was just where the wheel of the machine fed the material through and marked it in the process.
No idea what that means, but sounds harmless lol.
Thanks Monty, cracking atmospheric video, I love you new tent mate.
Cheers Danny. Hope you are well mate.
Fabulous scenery 👍

It really is!
Thanks as ever for your reply, best wishes to you too 😊👍
Awesome trip Monty!
Thanks! 👍
I love the look of that tent but it is just a bit too heavy for my love of summit camping. Vangos are my go to brand though!
Downside to this tent mate is the weight and pack size. The thing is HUGE. But it can handle winds over 90mph lol. Vango, OEX, and Naturehike are my to go :) Thanks for watching and for your input Anthony.

Monty, it's a good tent. Enjoy.
By no means perfect, but a great tent, Nancy. Hope you are well and thanks for popping by again!
Annoying!

Awfy nice tent. Great video Monty

I'm hoping to do a detailed review on why it's my dream tent soon :)
I hope you do winter camping. I'd love to see Scotland in the winter!
Check my latest video in the snow. I camp all year round :)
@@MontyOutdoors will do,! Love these videos!
@@jimmer1047 Thank you 😊 Legend mate!
Bet you were in your element Monty...great tent...bone dry...peeing down outside...your sort of camp...great vid...till next time
Awwwww! Ray! You know me so well mate haha. Glad you enjoyed mate and see you on the next one, sir!

@@MontyOutdoors Good to know!
Hi mate, I have the same marks on my MTN2, they all have it, I believe it's the way they pack it. I think the rubber zip storm flap causes it.
I have a video which shows the tent in reasonably high wind, if you are interested.
Few things to note:
-add guys to side as otherwise in the wet the outer will stick to the inner.
Same, I don't guy out in calm conditions, just not necessary, especially if down low and forecast not due to change (controversial and I'm sure armchair critics will disagree haha.)
After mentioning the caribeners I noticed you addressed it in another response, so sorry about that..
When you add side guys, mind and use the toggles to attach it to the inner (I nearly always forget and it's a faff to do at a later stage!)
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Good stuff. Feels great to have something that will take it 👍

@@MontyOutdoors I remember you was saying that a few times on your channel, looks brilliant bud, well done.

Thanks Big Yin! I'll message my friend right now and get back to you ASAP, mate.
Scoville Neverstick. You get them in ASDA for £15
Great video again!
Much appreciated :)
Yeah Nylon sags, but I don't recall having an issue with this one.
Nice tent, burly!
Thanks mate. I love it too! Not perfect, but it does what I want it to do :)
How do you dry the tents off after? Must take ages
I have a communal veranda in my block of flats. Tents and tarps dry rapidly, especially when windy.
