    You could heat the vinyl scalp and keep it heated throughout the rerooting process to keep the vinyl softer and more flexible, which might save wear and tear on your hands. Also, I would suggest getting a thimble. I had a Tuesday Taylor as a kid and the hair went really frizzy. I felt the scalp rotating gimmick didn't quite work, but it was still interesting.

    • @DeanReen
      @DeanReen  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you ❤️ I did try that but found that the scalp would harden again before I got the plug completely through. It was taking too long and I was getting really sweaty 😂 Thank you! A thimble is a fantastic idea! ❤️ It is unfortunate that the hair goes frizzy. The hair I rerooted her with is a little bit frizzy too but not too bad.

    As a vintage Barbie collector, I got a Tuesday in a vinyl house full of dolls... I am in love with her. I have boughten several more. Thanks for the video, I had no idea how to get her scalp off. I got one at the doll shop in the "free" box, because he hair was cut all up. I am going to try to re-root her... but I don't think I have your patiences! I am going to use a re-root tool and new saran hair. But the video was great! FYI, you can fix frizzy hair with some fabric softener, Aveda mens conditioner and boiling water... it takes days of work and letting her set with her head packed with fabric softener and conditioner, but the end result looks like a new doll.

      @@DeanReen Dean! I’ve been looking for a Tuesday doll, and the original hair color just isn’t as cute as your reroot and own current auburn locks. 😂 If I remember correctly, I have an old TLC Crissy doll stashed somewhere; I may have to dig her out and steal her hair to attempt my own reroot. I’ve been thinking on it for days! 😭

    I never saw your TLC Tuesday Taylor before you re-rooted her... LOL her hair!!!! 😅 It looks too funny, like a mad scientist character whom I forgot the name of! She looks amazing as a redhead! (Cousin It!! LOL) Genius idea to use authentic vintage Ideal doll hair!!!! And I LOVE the idea that you still kept to Tuesday's switch-able two tone hair by using Crissy and Cinnamon's different shades. Great re-root tutorial! (Though I would never have the patience to do it! 😜) Your loops inside the head are so neat!!!! Great tip on how to cut the hair using the masking tape. I love when you swish that hair to camera! 'KerCHUHHHH' LOL And I'm SO gonna buy that dress for my Tuesday Taylors (or actually, maybe Taylor Jones will get to wear it! 😁)

    I just finished re-rooting a few Barbie dolls that I bought at the local thrift store. I turned Western Barbie from blonde to brunette 👩🏻because her hair was cut really short and she looks better as a brunette and I used stick on eyelashes to fill the gap above the eyes. I also re-rooted a Heart Family mom that had most of her hair cut off (I have two other Heart Family moms with normal hair, one with the original pink and white dress with original white open toe shoes ), so I turned her into a redhead 👩🏻‍🦰.

    I like to use a ventilation hook handle (used for wig making) with a sewing needle inserted backwards and the eye cut at an angle. The handle is designed to hold tiny metal hooks, so it holds needles really well. They're also pretty inexpensive and you can get them on amazon. It could save you a lot of time in the future, I'll usually be able to get a re-root done in a couple of hours (which beats the hell out of 2 days).

    • @DeanReen
      @DeanReen  ปีที่แล้ว

      Is that what they call a reroot tool? Can it be used for the loop method or is it exclusively for the tension method? and how does it work? Hahaha, sorry for all the questions ❤️ Thanks for the suggestion 🥰

    • @niknarkotique2996
      @niknarkotique2996 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DeanReen It's sort of a pseudo-reroot tool; the handle is longer and thinner than what's usually used to hold the needle, so you get a bit more control and it's easier to hold. If you use a long enough needle the loop method would work, I've used glue to secure the hair instead of looping it though, so I can't speak from experience of using long needles. I imagine the needle might get a bit bendy if you try to insert it too fast; doll making needles are pretty long and durable, they might do the job. Essentially, the cut eye of the needle makes a little hook to grab the hair and you just plug it in and let it do its thing.

    • @DeanReen
      @DeanReen  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@niknarkotique2996 WOW! Thank you so much for all of this info! I had no idea they made specific doll needles even! I can't bring myself to do the glue myself but I will have to give this a go with the loop method.

    Great first try at rerooting. I loved that loop-locking technique. For removing extra hair, I use medical forceps that lock. It makes removing all the bits a breeze. And to help you poor, sore fingers, I use a push pin to widen the hole. It shrinks back to place after a while. That's especially helpful for Bratz reroots since their headz are much denser! Try some more! I'm looking forward to it!!!! And I love that you scalped a Crissy doll! Made me laugh! All for beauty, right? :)

    You can boil the bald scalp to shrink the holes before you reroot to make the hold even tighter and use less hair to fill up the holes, and theres a product called "Loctite Vinyl Fusion" that you can use to seal the split part holes and have it still be flexible! I personally use the knot technique for vintage dolls and the punch-tool technique for newer dolls with glue, both of which are a lot faster than the lock and loop but also arguably a little lazier and messy haha. Great job!!

    First of all, beautiful job! Clever to use Chrissy hair, as that’s what would’ve been used on her if she were a red head no doubt. Secondly the outfit is chefs kiss. It’s beautifully fitted and accurate in fabric texture and design to what would’ve been available for Tuesday. Also I used to reroot like you did. It was painful and the sores on your fingers… I still have ptsd from it lol I got a rerooting tool and I have to say I love it. It’s made it more enjoyable and o still do get a little bit of rawness from doing the loop and lock method. But nothing as extreme as doing it by needle. I love watching your videos my sweet friend!! I watch them while I work on my dolls

    • @DeanReen

      Thank you so much ❤️😊 That is exactly why I had to use Crissy hair 😂 I am such a stickler about things being authentic and what not. Hahaha, I am so thick! It was only recently that I realised what you have just said, that is a material Ideal would have used. Hahaha! PTSD! So true! I have been putting off my next project because of the pain it caused. I am going to have to try out one of the reroot tools. Everyone is suggesting them to me. Aww, thank you ❤️ I am so glad you enjoy them! Have you ever thought of doing videos? It is a fair bit of work but some people have a knack for keeping things concise and therefore don't have to do so much editing. I am not one of those people 😂❤️

    There are doll rerooting tools available (not expensive at all). They will save your fingers and hands, plus speed up the process. For a little bit more money ($500 to $2000+), you can buy the industrial version, which is similar to a custom sewing machine. They do about 1000 hairs a minute. 😊 th-cam.com/video/_AsaUmhQ8kU/w-d-xo.html as an example

    Could her hair be boil washed? I just got the rotating hair suntan Tuesday Taylor and I would love to keep her original hair!

    • @DeanReen
      @DeanReen  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used a straightener on the rerooted hair and it worked really well. You need to ensure it doesn't get too hot though and you need to work fast. Boil washing could help too. I would try the boil wash first and see how that goes. Don't forget to test anything you do on a small inconspicuous strand first before doing it to the whole lot. Good luck! ❤️😊

    Don't you and Tuesday look good in Crissy auburn hair! You know if you decide to do that again in a different color, or colors on another Tuesday Taylor. If you're not needing it to be the locked method you used. You can use a tag gun you can get easily and cheaply online. What's really nice about this method is that you don't even have to remove the scalp. You simply use an already knotted piece of hair, you load the tag gun, and just stick the needle in the hole and pull the trigger. Done and no pain on your poor fingers. There are videos on YT showing exactly how to do it. It works well, it's fast and because of the knot on the end, and how tight Tuesday's pre-punched rooting holes are. So it should hold well as long as you don't pull too hard on the hair while combing or brushing. I actually have a Tuesday doll that looks like the before version and now I'm very tempted to make my own with that pretty color and long length. I would simply do the Crissy color all over, but the combo of the two is so perfect because that's how the doll was designed, so one side is very different from the other. You do great work.💮

    I wish I had counted the strands before rerooting my doll, I used too much hair for the plugs and her hair is so thick but I can barely do anything with it. When watching rerooting videos they never tell you that. Well lesson learned I guess

    • @DeanReen
      @DeanReen  ปีที่แล้ว

      I started a reroot years ago and never finished it. I didn't count the strands and it didn't look too great. In addition to that the head was very hard and densely rooted. Live and learn 😂
