How to make your own Rainbow High doll! Rerooting vlog and walkthrough :)

Materials:
Sewing needle(s), wire cutters (jewelry wire sized), scissors, Fabri-tac glue, hair of some kind, x-acto knife, tweezers
My hair was from thedollplanet on Etsy (USA)
Text instructions:
1. Pick a doll to reroot, cut off original hair down to the scalp
2. Boil doll to remove head from body, get her very hot so it’s easy to remove
3. (Optional)- remove eyes and, while the head is still hot, add in new eyes. Video explains a technique for this
4. Pluck the hair out using tweezers or something similar
5. Paint scalp similar color to new hair
6. Create reroot tool/buy reroot tool
7. Use reroot tool to insert hair into doll’s head (my method shown in video)
8. Repeat until all plugs are filled
9. Put fabri-tac glue into the head via the neck hole, be sure to spread and put a generous amount
10. Wait at least 2 hours, then put head back on doll.
11. Boil hair into new hairstyle
12. Congrats you’re amazing I’m so proud of you, enjoy your new baby

I love how detailed you've made each step. It's more like a real lesson in rerooting. I'm hoping to try a reroot/custom soon though I'm not sure on who.
Not a criticism, I have never done a reroot and I am planning on trying one soon! So I wanted to know, is there any concern with the glue leaking out the way it does on Mattel dolls? Or is this glue better quality so that's not a concern? Cause the doll I'm planning on doing has like the tiniest little head hole and this method seems like it would be way easier than the loop method given the limited space I have to work with, so if that isn't a concern I may give it a shot

Oh no not at all! I got the Fabri-tac idea from the incredibly ancient art (joking kind of but in doll communities- it’s pretty old) of 80’s my little pony customization! That glue doesn’t go anywhere! I wish I knew what Mattel used so I could say for certain but I used spray glue once and it did leaked similarly 😭
The loop method would be an absolute nightmare… my first attempt at a reroot was that way and it took me over 12 hours for a Barbie head and it all ended up unraveling afterwards… a true nightmare.
I really want to do some Precure customs for the cures that never got dolls but I’m daunted by the idea of repainting the faces.
This is amazing!!! Thanks for the boiling tips and LOVE the CUSTOM!! A tip that has helped me so much with reroot is using a spray bottle and water down the hair. It makes it easier to work with and less of a mess. Your channel literally brings my LIFE!! thanks queen!

I love it when you make customs, I don't have the time to reroot, so I usually just dye the hair a different color, probably a haircut or some bangs, and an eye swap. BTW The salon playset is good for display only, Sorry for not responding to your reply.

@@Strawbcherries Yeah, it works only on dolls with middle parts tho, you need to get the front sections of the hair, & tie it off with a hairband, don't use the elastics, because they will snap. Keep the hair in the front, and pour boiling water over it, then cut the bangs to your preferences. Start low then work your way up until you think it looks good. After that, get more boiling water and style the bangs to keep them flat, the eyelashes on the doll will push them up a bit but don't worry. Then get a wide ribbon and. tie it around the head and make sure it's covering the bangs, leave it to dry and it should be good! I can send a different tutorial if you' like but it's a different method.

Second hand sites are great for good deals on nude dolls! People like to buy them just for their clothes to use with barbies so they show up pretty regularly for $8-$11 each
So, I've used Rit dye for doll hair. As long as you rinse it until no color comes off the hair, I've never stained a doll's vinyl unless you use the Dyemore dyes. Those stain.
As far as the clothes go, the solution for that is easy, Rit sells a dye fixative you can buy to soak dyed items in that will set it better so it doesn't transfer dye. Most people don't think about this and don't set the dye, then wonder why it transfers.
Have any of you ever removed or tried to remove just the lip color / painted on teeth of your dolls to change the lip color? If so , how did it go and if it turned out well , how did you do it / what did you use to change the lip color , remove teeth , and seal the new lip color?

Amazing custom!! You can use acetone with the glue that you used (it’s acetone activated) by doing so, you can make the glue have of a more runny substance, and it also dries way faster
Oh I didn’t know that :o I did see that it’s a component of the glue though (and I definitely could smell that…)
Id be worried about the acetone eating at the plastic prior to drying if it’s overly runny… I’ll have to experiment on a bait doll… it being runny would make things soooo much easier haha
@@xCanadensis yeah I think it’s different in every doll, just because some of them use a different type of vinyl. Ever after high dolls take it well and I think monster high dolls do too, but I’m not sure about rainbow high

I have NO crafting skill whatsoever. Trust me, I've tried. I can draw a little (I mostly design clothing for stories), I can colour really well, but put it in 3D and my brain flat lines completely. All that to say that this is super interesting and impressive to me. I feel like I'd mess it up massively if it was me, so I end up just paying people for customs. But if I was to make one, it would probably be a dark violet just because it's my favourite colour!
You know, it's so funny how people can be so judgey and annoying about YOUR technique when it works for you and doesn't hurt the doll. I can understand when people give honest, helpful tips, but the people you describe just seem annoying. For me as a writer, it's like when people try and tell me what to do with a story/fic and it's just not helpful, like the classmate who told me I needed to change my MC's name because "It doesn't sound like a name from that time (1912)" not knowing I did research to MAKE SURE the name existed the year the character was born (1895). Was it an uncommon name? Yes. Non-existent? No.
Also, 2AM... That nightshift life, huh? XD I used to work 14:00-23:00 (and now work 4:00-13:00), so I get it. I'm also a person who gets up at like three in the morning because it's how I'm programmed.
For the custom Amaya you should make her pastel goth with maybe light pink light purple light blue hair with black streaks and black lipstick
Ehhh I want to leave her face paint alone and work with the soft colors she already has
3:21 IS FACTS YO! Rit dye is horrible lmao, i used it for all my customs and some i ADORE like cobalt daphne, orange sheryl, Cherry georgia & orange karma but the colors on the bottle are NOT the actual colors in the bottle! Like rose quartz looks pale pink on the bottle but is ORANGE in the bottle and it’s like WTF! With dying doll’s hair you NEVER know what color you are getting or if it’s gonna be exactly how you want it, re rooting while more laborious is WAY better in the long run! Tried to do half neon pink and half neon green and the dye turned her UGLY so now she will be my first re root!

Do you know if, over time, the glue in the head would start to seep out through the plugs like Monster High dolls did from Mattel, or is this glue different and would have no seepage?
So on an actual person they have different shades of the same shade in their hair?
Look at your hair :) you’ll see lowlights and highlights! Mine aren’t super obvious because I have boring, poopy hair but I’m black and blonde hair I’m always really impressed with the different colors you can see in the light :)

Do you remove a Rainbow high head the same way you do a Bratz one? Pushing down and then pulling up fast?
No, their heads are really solid and could probably snap the neck peg if you force it, maybe pushing it down would help after the head is warmed up?
Do notttt do that. Idk why people do that with Bratz but it’s a one-way ticket to breaking the neck peg
Heat up the head with water or a blow dryer and carefully pry it off
@@xCanadensis I'm not sure why tbh 😭 I've always been told that's the way to do it ever since I was a kid but I don't do it often anyway cause I'm afraid to ruin dolls
People always tell me to do that and I… can’t even. When I was a kid I broke one of my dolls’ neck pegs just brushing her hair… I cannot imagine just ripping it off and expecting a good result
Also you can use a spolllie to get the hair out of the head

Love the reroot. Those tea kettles come in handy! I was looking up rerooting tools and saw theyre like 15-20 bucks. Def taking your advice and making one. May I ask what size needles you usually use for rh (omg) heads?
Okay so… I hate buying them and never have so I just buy a kit of sewing needles at the craft store for $1 and cut them… and then pick the one that works best

It’s soooo nice but it’s better for display/photography than actual storage as the actual hanging rods aren’t super long :( you could get maybe 20 individual pieces in there

It would be interesting to see someone do a reroot on a Rainbow High doll using a natural human hair color like brown, black, blonde, auburn etc.
I got a Karma and dyed her hair a reddish-brown with black tips, I also gave her some bangs,, I just have to say, natural hair looks amazing on rainbow high dolls. As well as the bangs, since they're a different style than the usuals ones that Violet and Jett have.
I want to try this some day if I remove Karma's eyes. I am thinking of giving her Blue ones. I love her eyes but feel she would probably look even better with Blue ones. And I really want a Black hair / Black theme RH doll. Will probably get a light color doll , give her Karma's eyes and Brown hair. Will get some dolls later to change out the hair and eyes - Black hair and different eyes.

Oh you just push right through. I do it as I reroot and normally it just works like if there was already a hole. If not, a boring needle or a thumbtack will do :)
You should use a pricing gun to reroot watch toys will be boys videos on rerouting with a pricing gun! The title of the video says something like no pain method reroot. I forgot what’s it called
Ehh that wouldn’t save any time and would probably actually take more time. I have a tagging fun and they’re not quick and easy to use. Loading it for each individual hank of hair would take forever

What size needle to do it I just got a violet willow for 8 bucks and immma re root her
I don’t use a specific size I just buy a pack of cheap sewing needles and cut whichever looks right

I talked about it in the video. I just cut them myself with wire cutters because it’s way cheaper. And I glued them in towards the end of the video as well

Nope! Though I think the boy liv dolls are some of the best boy dolls ever. I do love liv though hehe. I’ve always wanted to reroot one of their wigs but they’re a bit hard to find.
