It is by far the greatest experience of my life to enjoy Delilah live... It was the finale of the set and the build up was incredible and I don't think I've ever felt happiness like that.

One thing I really like about Fred's music is how intimate it is, from the samples, to the titling and covers. It gives the music a really authentic vibe, like you listening to a completely pure feeling, completely honest
Exactly, he doesn't focus on himself but THE PEOPLE which is so refreshing nowadays. Have you ever watched his live and the way he includes in a vertical screen original stories from the people that were sampled? Goosebumps. Another level.

He really can't. I don't think he understands the impact of them, especially fred again. Fred is more of a personal artist rather than one you can "critique" but still i would say most of his pieces are beautiful
Deliliah (pull me out of this) is one of my favorite songs of all times. It would be damn near impossible to count the amount of times I've put my headphones on and listened to this song while on my way to a party and just felt an overwhelming sense of excitement
I think Actual Life 3 is not as strong as the first and second iterations, as they are more ‘album-like’ and have incredible mixing as they tell a story, especially given their contexts of being released in lockdown and I think they reflect the mood of uncertainty and beauty of the small, intimate moments and glimpses of better days that interspersed some really shite times for a lot of people. TL;DR - your moustache gives you good takes, Melon
A shame Melon was only able to pick up Fred whilst at his third and arguably most forgettable album, I don't think anything will ever come close to the emotions and feelings he was able to grasp within AF1. Lockdown clearly had a huge impact upon his producing, one that was translated straight to those who were lucky enough to begin listening back in 2020/early 2021, he really did something special.

I’m so happy that you’re giving Fred some recognition, Anthony! This man is a gift to EDM and one of my favorite artists that I’ve discovered this year. I gotta say though, I have no idea how Clara and Delilah didn’t end up on best tracks, but that’s just me. I think they’re incredible. Either way, though, thank you for putting some time into his music and highlighting this man’s amazing talents.

As a musician of guitar playing and bass playing I can tell you this producer for actual life trilogy is the most powerful music that I heard in my life and made me learn more sounds, sampling and producing and i would love go down the same path as Fred Again

Part of the abrupt transition I think from Kelly to Mustafa is to reflect the "end of a nightmare". I was expecting a killer transition like those in Actual life 2, but it makes sense. His first two albums have incredible flow and story telling

This guy is not a music nerd. He knows literally nothing about music. He's a consumer. Music nerds are composers, producers and artists, virtuosos, people who study and learn the art of MUSIC. Listening to a bunch of other people's work and judging it doesn't make you a nerd. If I eat a lot of food am I a chef? Am I a 'culinary nerd'? Fantano has stayed in the restaurant his whole life and has literally never been in the kitchen. He has no place calling himself a music nerd.
Fred again reminds me a bit of Jamie xx production wise. If you are into quieter & sad sounding house, check this album out. There are some fantastic tracks
I'll have to give some of these tracks another listen, I've definitely been pulled to his sounds but his albums definitely don't feel like a strong thorough listen. Delilah (Pull Me Out Of This) just hits the perfect sad banger vibe, especially as someone who uses music as escapism a bit much while I'm feeling low.
Check out his other albums as well!! This is his weakest so far. If you’re looking for sad bangers go for Angie (I’ve Been Lost), Dermot (see yourself in my eyes) or Roze (forgive).
I think something that is really important to bear in mind regarding Fred's style is that the LP's aren't supposed to be typical albums and are titled 'Actual Life' for a reason. They are supposed to be authentic, unpolished and, much like actual life, imperfect. For me, this only adds to the charm and creates this relatability in the records which is why they resonate and connect with so many people so deeply. I'm not trying to suggest that Anthony is wrong - far from it. He's absolutely right in what he's saying, I just think that it's interesting that due to the subjective nature of music, some of what he deems to be weaknesses in the record are actually what Fred fans love about them. EDIT: Reading my comment back has made me realise that Fred again.. fans are about to become the Rick and Morty fans of electronic music and that is a hilarious thought.

I think that Bored Lord - In Case We Never Get To Rave Again from 2020 is a more interesting project with a lot of similar elements to this one. Gave the same score that you did to this Fred Again album about a month ago by the way, which is probably the first time that has happened to me with one of your reviews. Honestly, the first two albums are significantly better. this one is kind of the same old same old, there are a couple of decent tracks but ultimately it's just a repeat of the previous two albums and in a less cohesive way. 6 is solid. Fred is definitely one of the best in the game right now, especially his DJ sets.
Between this, and "Quest for Fire" from Skrillex, there were some tracks I didn't like initially as well. Going into Fred's boiler room performance, as well as Skrillex's DJ set, the songs moving in and out of one another makes for a completely different experience. That's a first for me, very weird.

not upset w this review and fair critiques. i think however his take on Mustafa shows fantano perhaps not seeing the bigger picture of what makes fred's work so sublime. Angie (interlude,) and Mustafa (time to move you,) are two tracks from separate albums that serve a similar purpose. they encapsulate what "actual life" is. he takes all of the samples and characters and the stories that they've told and he brings them together to create a moody, emotional centrepiece. i don't think that (for most) angie or mustafa would be their top-replayed tracks, but i think they deserve recognition for how they exist within the entirety of actual life.
respect. delilah is one of the better house/edm songs ever made imo but beyond there, absolutely on point. kelly is one of his top 3 underrated songs 100%
Kelly might be a personal favorite tracks of mine but would love to see the Melon do the other After Life EPs feel like they are better as a whole a flow much better than this EP
Actual Life 1 was great -- so hopeful yet somber and intimate coming off of a doubtlessly difficult year for the whole world. AL2 and 3 were duds in comparison. Fred has promise if he can tap into the same emotions that helped him make AL1 and innovate further, but AL2 and AL3 weren't promising moves forward IMO.
AL2 is still so fucking incredible tho. Billie, Hannah, Roze, Tanya, Kahan and Faisal are god tier imo. I agree that this new record is his weakest, but dude is so full of potential.

not upset w this review and fair critiques. i think however his take on Mustafa shows fantano perhaps not seeing the bigger picture of what makes fred's work so sublime. Angie (interlude,) and Mustafa (time to move you,) are two tracks from separate albums that serve a similar purpose. they encapsulate what "actual life" is. he takes all of the samples and characters and the stories that they've told and he brings them together to create a moody, emotional centrepiece. i don't think that (for most) angie or mustafa would be their top-replayed tracks, but i think they deserve recognition for how they exist within the entirety of actual life.

Kelly might be a personal favorite tracks of mine but would love to see the Melon do the other After Life EPs feel like they are better as a whole a flow much better than this EP

Actual Life 1 was great -- so hopeful yet somber and intimate coming off of a doubtlessly difficult year for the whole world. AL2 and 3 were duds in comparison. Fred has promise if he can tap into the same emotions that helped him make AL1 and innovate further, but AL2 and AL3 weren't promising moves forward IMO.

AL2 is still so fucking incredible tho. Billie, Hannah, Roze, Tanya, Kahan and Faisal are god tier imo. I agree that this new record is his weakest, but dude is so full of potential.
