Modifying a 2-71 Detroit Diesel generator. Part 1

I have an interesting project come through the door. I need to mate a newer generator to the back of an old Detroit diesel engine. Looks like this will be a 3 part video series so follow along and I hope you enjoy. Thanks for all the support and new subscribers.

There needs to be some kind of torsional dampner in there to avoid damaging the generator. It probably had like a rubber flex disk in that fan area.

Hey Randy. I remember riding the Greyhound buses in the early 80's and I think they had the Detroits in them. Definitely had a unique sound.

Hey Tom looks like fun that is not a V its 2-54 or 2-71 i think its a twin . how much was the new unit and is it from China . It would be cool to mount one of those blades in a table saw you would need some HP not no cheep HF unit . JM

True. It is in line and not a V. I should have known better. Not sure on the cost of the unit but it was made in Georgia by "South Georgia Generator". I ended up calling them for some help in part 2 of the videos. Great customer support.
