Why does Sonos Update fail all the time?

  • I haven't had a Sonos update go smoothly at first try for the past 2 years? Maybe it's because I have like 30 Sonos devices at home. But should it fail? Why is it failing? What can be done? I go in-depth in this topic today and Sonos, please listen.

    I have never had a problem with a Sonos update! I have six Sonos speakers and it’s always been smooth sailing!

    Some say they have it on auto update and have no problems , i had manually updated and had problems with last two updates.

    Ah, excellent info. I never get a clean complete (Arc / Pair One SL and Sub3) , but simple exit the process, re-do and all is then well. Great to know what is going on in the background!

    After using non traditional home theatre products including Sonos. I have to say nothing comes close to a traditional HT setup. If you have the space and money to spend please reconsider soundbars. Hint *Arendall* Go big or go home. Nothing against Peter or Sonos, sound is subjective and you pay for what you get.

      I did go big.
      That’s why I have a Sonos system.
      Traditional home theatre prices are too high and the wires are a real problem.

      I agree totally. I have a complete NHT speaker system 5.1 which gives better definition and separation of sound. Wife didn’t like all the separate components. Now living with a slab home and not interested in crawling the ceiling for wiring Sonos is the next best thing. The end result is I have one hell of a system in my garage.

    17 speakers in my setup plus a Boost and a Port. Definitely takes a long time. I’ve had issues with updates the past couple of latest updates. But it usually completes.

    I don’t know my system auto updates without me even realizing it occurs. Zero issues.

    its good to know about this on going issue since some years....Many have an another issue with Sonos Arc and would like to know more details and resolution about this issue if you are aware....every few months Sound from TV cuts out randomly every few seconds and it works normal only when power chord unplugged and plug in and then it reboots....not sure why this issue occurs and I see many posts online about this issue but there is no proper resolution did not work for me...appreciate if you could provide the permanent resolution if any....thanks again for your very detailed info videos always.

      Recently (past 2 years or so), every blue moon, my TV audio drops (Playbase, Sub, 2ea Play 3s).
      Resetting 120VAC power brings it back.
      I'm sweating bullets, though...

    I update but every time it says update fail so then I checked the about system and it looks like it’s been there is the update

    When will Sonos update the 300 ERAS to have the front speaker active during surround sound while using Tv. If they decide to update then I will buy them again.
    Currently Arc/ Sub Gen / ERAS 100

    I cannot connect anymore because the sonos app crash after connecting with the sub speaker etc and the setup cannot be complete.

    ...thought it was just me. Rarely get a Completed Update. I have auto update checked (for ~3AM)...used to do this automatically. Recently, never does. I get a hint an update is available when my ROAMs start burping.

    Would say update through phone s2 works well. The update attempt through the MacOS, the s2 upgrade always fails and have to go to the Sonos support site to download it again. The Speakers themselves seem to now have any problems updating.

    I factory reset my arc and still not updating... And I can't connect anything to it.

    I have had 10 sonos products for the past 4+ years. Not once have i had a problem with any updates

    According to Sonos Page, Era 100 has 1gb ram 8gb storage and era 300 2gb ram and 8gb storage

    For the last two updates, including the recent one, I get a failed update message. But when I retry, there is no message, meaning no update required.

    Hello I'm having problem with an update for my new sonos roam SL. It is the first setup update and it just doesn't work.I tried everything, plug-in a charger or remove it, resetting my phone my router my speaker, tried different phones (ios and Android) different WiFi networks. It is always the same (errors 1101, 1106). I don't understand why you have to go through all this stuff to just use a BT speaker (you can't use it without the update) I'm deeply disappointed with sonos update system. I bought a great speaker but now it seems just like a 200 dollar paperweight. Do you know why this first update on a single speaker doesn't work?

    My beam2 one SL and roam they fall apart after update of the lasted version 😔😢 the app itself drop wifi connection often even my high speed modem is next to me. I really upset about this. Please help me how to solve 🙂‍↕️

    I like that idea of stopping support for older speakers. That way they can have room to add new features like having separate sound settings for music and movies.

    Can anyone help me with a problem I'm having? I have a 2x sub arc and 2 eras 300 setup. The problem I'm having is every 5-10 minutes my sound goes out for like 3 seconds. It's driving me nuts. Please, please help

    The Sonos app seems to struggle on certain Android phones or devices. I have an older Samsung Galaxy S7 and my updates go super smooth every time, conversely, my wife has an S9 and sometimes it fails to update. Another thing is that she has had to use my S7 to set up online music services as her S9 won't do it.

    I just installed the latest app update on my phone and the entire configuration has been wiped clean. As soon as I agreed to the terms of service my entire configuration is wiped. Since the devices are connected to my TV I lost sound on my tv as well. I had to switch back to my tv speakers to get any audio. I was using an optical device connection since the HDMI connection is not recognized by the app. I am also having issues with finding my devices on the app again. This is complete and total BS! This is why I have not bought any upgrades on my SONSO devices since I bought them. They are an absolute pain in the ass to use. I cannot recommend Sonos devices to friends since it is a constant battle to keep them up and running and they are expensive.

    New app sucks! Completely destroyed the interface - thanks for nothing Sonos. They are never getting another dime from me. I’m actively looking at other options to get out from under this mess.

    16.1 has messed up my sound profile. Sounds way lower, bass is real bad, voice is crap. Trueplay has now been turned off.

    If Sonos allows more speakers to be paired front left and right, including the ability for any amount of subwoofers. They would be the best soundbar company on the market. Also they should make a better subwoofer that plays down to 20hz and it's game over for every soundbar out there.

      I disagree. I just returned my arc, dual subs, and era 300 setup for a Nagamichi Dragon. This system is unbeatable.

      Nakamichi doesn't play 20 Hz do a test tone and tell me you can hear audible frequency at that sound wave. It bottoms out. Either way my next setup will be a traditional home theater like Klipsch, SVS or KEF. Nakamichi will never be at their level.

      @@Lattestone671 nobody hears 20hz, you only feel it. And here’s the thing, I don’t need to do any testing. The audible sound quality is substantially better across all types of sources. I was always adjusting Sonos and never satisfied with lack of clarity or bass. The dragon exceeds every category. I could care less whether it plays 20hz or not in testing. My point is in real life applications it’s better.

      @@Lattestone671 you’d need to spend quite a bit more in a component system to beat the Dragon, but they will definitely sound better. You just pay $10k+ for it.
      If I went HT setup I’d go dual Monolith 16 subs with SVS Ultra Evolution Pinnacle towers and rear surrounds. But then again this is well into the $12-15k price point, or 4x the cost of what I paid.

      @@keithskoglund10 You can 100% hear 20hz it’s within human range of hearing. I have IEMs that clearly and loudly play below 20hz which dragon cannot do. Also you don’t need to spend $15k to beat dragon. You could spend less than dragon easily and beat it. Heck $600 subwoofers play down to 20hz and destroys dragon. Trust me you can definitely hear it unless you have bad hearing.

    If a sound system isn’t adding a fix or new feature that’s actually worth it. There’s absolutely no reason to do it. For example the beam gen 2 added atmos and “heights” adjustment or the ability to add 2 subs to the arc or beam. At this point the systems really just need 2 front surrounds added to be able to do a great a true 5.1/7.1 separates system.
