    Spectacular selection of whiskies! Well done. I enjoyed this because you like what you like and that's what you gravitate towards but you're not afraid to try any other spirits. Too many drinkers get pigeon holed into only liking certain bottles and never explore the endless possibilities that's out there on the shelves. Huge kudos to this massive selection of open bottles.

    Lots of love here, thank you guys for watching and leaving comments! Btw, if you want to watch us drink some of this whiskey and unprofessionally ramble on about it for 3 hours, you can watch our livestream in the live section on the Bourbon Chronicles main page. Thank you, Tim, this was a ton of fun to make!! Clarifications: when I said 1.25oz that's my total alcohol intake per day split between 4 whiskies! Well, maybe if I have a blind during lunch, I might have another one after dinner, so 2.5oz is possible. Corrections, apologies, Larceny and Wilderness Trail are wheated bourbons, not wheat whiskies. Also, every time I want to say Lincoln County Process, I end up saying Lincoln Town car. i don't know why. More clarifications/corrections... Three Floyd's is a beer brewery in Indiana, and has just started to make single malt. Early Times bottled in bond is my 2nd favorite bourbon at 100 proof or lower, but Heaven Hill 7y bottled in bond is my 3rd favorite. My favorite bourbon at 100 proof or lower is EH Taylor Small Batch. And I do actually like it better than the EH Taylor single barrel, because it is more sweet, of course. I meant to say that I like Scotch with Rum or Port finishes because they are such strong finishes. Sherry is too weak.

      It took me 5 years of collecting to get any comprehension of what allocated whiskey was, once I caught on, it was game over for my budget for the last 2 years. California gets a ton of allocations so Stagg Jr, EhT SiB, EhT BP, etc... pops up every other week during allocation. My friend even scored a GTS at Bevmo last week. However, that's not the case with a lot of states so nonallocated makes more sense for most people.
      Edit: the title is a bit misleading though with the use of the word "insane" as most people who watch this, have some quite impressive collections. I think "large collection" would be more suitable in the context, so as not to mislead any more seasoned veterans in the whisky game. Great video nonetheless with many great bottles!

    He makes me want to crack my gts. Honestly, how long can you hold onto a bottle?

    • @alexanderlai9160
      @alexanderlai9160 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Personally, I think it will last for the rest of your life. But you should test how you feel about the alcohol oxidizing. Try this experiment. Take a bottle of Buffalo Trace that is almost done and let it sit on your shelf for a year or two. Now do a blind with a new pour of Buffalo Trace. In almost every blind I've done, I've felt the oxidized bourbon was better! It was a little sweeter at the cost of some loss in proof. Also, I use argon gas wine preserver, you spray into the bottle, and the argon gas is heavier than oxygen, so it sits on the alcohol in the bottle and the whiskey stops oxidizing. I used to use the argon gas on all of my bottles, but then I discovered that I actually like my bourbon oxidized. So now, I only use it for bourbons that I think are "perfect" where they are at (my Staggs, a couple of my Four Roses SB, and a few other store picks). The rest, I'm happy knowing that the whiskey is getting sweeter with age. Nothing wrong with waiting for a good occasion to open your gts. But don't wait bc you think your bottle will spoil. I would use the argon gas on the gts. But definitely experiment with the argon gas before you use it. I, personally, can't detect a change in smell or taste after using it, but just make sure you can't either!

      @@alexanderlai9160 for myself my favorite single malts have flavors coming from the distillate and casks in balance. That is where real complexity shines. It is true that the most expensive Scotch is very old. But that is because of economics and demand. Aging anything for 30 years will be crazy expensive. Demand because old age is prestigious. But personally I have many bottles that are under 15 years that are better than many 18-25 year. I will admit it took me much longer to like Single malt Scotch than Bourbon. Bourbon was more approachable and sweet. Don’t get me wrong. O absolutely still love a great Bourbon and drink it often. But after about 4 years I began favoring Scotch because of the wide variety of flavors and complexity. I simply get more surprised with what flavors I taste in Scotch than Bourbon. In general I avoid any Bourbon under 100 proof and Scotch under 92 proof. There is actually alot of Scotch that is cask strength on the market. Of course it all comes down to personal preference. But don’t be surprised that in 5 years you begin to really like other spirits like Scotch, single pot still Irish and Rum! Since you favor sweet you should really try some high quality Rums. Something high proof without additives. Foursquare exceptional casks or cask strength Hampden

      Yes, I agree, but isn't it just INSANELY "super mid"? A lot of people online are arguing whether a bourbon is worth more than $100, and I kind of put my money where my mouth is and went, bought, and opened over 200 bottles, haha. By my calculation, that is over $10k in open bottles, and no BTAC, Willet, Michter's, to be seen. I'm not against those bottles at all, but I'm not going to blow my budget on them in the secondary vs experiencing what's on the market today. We're living in the golden age of bourbon and I intend to enjoy it. When it all comes crashing down, those BTAC bottles will survive and still be there waiting for me. I don't need to be in a hurry to get to them. Cheers!

    It’s true that @alexanderlai9160 visits 3 Binny’s a day! Saw him @ the parking lot of the Lincoln Park Binny’s today! Cool guy. Guessing you do LP, Lakeview and South Loop? I’ll see you around!

      Good to meet you! I do LP, downtown, and South Loop. On the weekend, I've been adding Lincolnwood, Glencoe, Highland Park, Woodman's Buffalo Grove, and Woodman's Kenosha, haha.

      @@alexanderlai9160 Wow! Seems like west burbs get all the good drops. Never had any luck in South Loop even though their clearance section is awesome. Surprised you don’t hit Lakeview since it’s less than 10min away.
