This is not clear if you can play offline or not (I don't own an Xbox so it is important to know). Seems like when you start any game you must be online then while the game still running if the internet is disconnected you still can play, otherwise you can start a game without internet because you cannot access your saved game (or may be can only start the new game). There is conflicting information of what you can do. The comments seem to give a more concrete answers and the experiences than the video itself. Basically, MS just wanted to squeeze $60 or more out of each Xbox owner per month, don't they? They give you more choices or they are force you to buy more choices. Clearly, they force you to buy..............
Most u can play offline, but a few are strictly online. Its mostly massively multi-player focused games... I know this is kinda long, but i can give a few examples of either online or offline available layer if u want

but in fairness to Microsoft Sony does the same, sure the way they go about business is different than Microsoft, but ps4, ps5, xbox one, xbox series games require an internet connection in order to install them. because usually an update of some kind happens the first you fire one up, now once the update is complete and the dev who made the game gets all your information, then you can play after. once a game is installed you can play it anytime, but if you have other games that are not installed, you can only install them with an internet connection. with the xbox your game gets installed in two places, your main drive and the cloud. your right in that they are about money, of course that's why they charge for gold and gamepass if you want that. but even your game library won't show up offline, only games you currently have installed appear. we haven't had true consoles since the 360 and PS3, and that was awhile ago.

Regarding your gamepass statement, I would like to inquire more I'm planning to get a series s with gamepass If turn my internet off would I not be able to play the installed gamepass games? In a likely scenario if my internet cuts off during that time would I still be able to play the gamepass games?
Well, on my xb1s i can still play them as long as my gamepass is active. But once the gamepass ends u cant. Its like a built in counter or something, and keeps track even when ur offline. Idk if the newer series S and X can, but wanted to share i have done it b4
Ok but the discs dont work either. I cant play anything on my xbox one, we dont have internet at my house and all the discs we put in give this exact message. Ive already had it connected to a hotspot before for setups and updates but it wont let us play these games now, games like minecraft and lego starwars.

I just got a new series S. Its set up as my home xbox. We had public works knock out the blocks internet today. I went offline mode, but almost all my games will not load. Any idea why? Even old games like fallout 3 and morrowind just won't start. They are all on my Seagate. Do i maybe have to have them on the internal to work? Thanks.
I used to have a Xbox one s and had no issues playing my games offline but when I upgraded when I was gifted a Xbox series s only a handful of games was playable offline and the majority 400+ gave me the damn message that I needed to be online but I did noticed the games I was able to play offline was the games I picked to play until 100% complete or at least finish the story once and were games that got launch when I was online so I tried with one of the games i couldn't play offline launched it online and quite the game once I sow the title screen and shifted to offline mode and it worked perfectly and was happy and then I got mad realizing I had to do this damn process to the rest of my library 400+ it took me two weeks taking my sweet ass time but it was worth it and yes the series s was set to my home Xbox but for some reason if I wanted to play my games offline I had to launch each game once online I hope I was able to help anyone

I was having problems with this because I didn't go to personalized settings and set my Xbox to my home ,after I did that I can play games that I've previously downloaded on game pass , or own , something like watch dogs, a single player game . So I just got a used Xbox one from GameStop today. When I turn it on, it asked my region then the wifi setup. Usually I can skip this (don't live around good wifi so I just have cell data) but with this I can't. It just forces me to try again or turn off the console...wtf... I have the Mass Effect Legendary Edition and it won't start up. It keeps telling me to sign into the internet. If I turn on the hotspot on my phone, it then tells me the disk is not inserted, even though it is.
@@RemyJackson For those people wondering if you have to be online first before you go offline and play a game. The answer is no. Step 1. Go to settings click sign in, security & passkey under change sign in preference & security preference click it and make sure it says no barriers . 2. Click intant sign in and make sure it's linked to your primary profile. 3. Click control link and also make your primary profile is linked to that as well. 4. Make sure your console is set to home console . Follow these steps and you literally do not have to be online even if your system is fully shut down and turned on later . You will be able to access all of your game pass games as well as your purchase games without ever having to be online.
@@RemyJackson if you follow those steps exactly, you won't have problems anymore. I just tested it out on my wife's Xbox and mine and I took myself completely offline and I made sure my router was disconnected and everything low and behold it worked

Yes unfortunately.. BUT.. You will be able to install/launch any "SeriesX" only games, at the moment there are very few tho (ex: Judgment, SoundMind, some sports games, etc) The sad part is here: For any XboxOne games, you'll be able to install the game but launching the game will ONLY be possible once you've connect to the internet. (Just for the first time) Even the one that has SmartDelivery (ex: ForzaHorizon5, Cyberpunk, Farcry6, etc) Btw, I do own the SeriesX and I dont have internet at home at the moment so yeah.. it kinda suck, I hope MS is working on something here cuz it gets really anoying everytime I buy a new game

@@Abel-Alvarez In other words, ANY XboxOne/SmartDelivery games needs to be launch with internet for their first time only. After that, you're good to go. Your system will run those games with the last update they had. I would suggest to unchecked the "keep my system and games updated" in your settings. That will prevent you to be force to update everything you got installed when you connect your system to internet later on.

Ive had problems even when having physical discs, almost feeling that you don't own them. I guess I'm just getting old and any issue that comes along is harder to fix than the good old days of just having a Nintendo 64 playing 007 with friends, and internet not being an issue. Feel like these consoles need to be boycott, but again I'm an old dude with no patience for these issues and with limited mind to waste my time in something I rarely do, that is playing games using these consoles.

I have an Xbox Series S and just recently got a game called “StarField” I want to play it offline, but I’m afraid that it won’t count my achievements. I have been confused if it simply won’t give it OR that I does give it once I get back online. There was never really a straight Yes or No answer.
It should count your achievements because the Xbox will remember what you did in the game for the most part and find out you have some achievements sometimes it doesn't work on some games for some of the achievements but that's some out of most games that have this problem

So many comments that this doesnt work, but as far as i can tell it does. I have 18 games. I played them all while online at least once (yes the console is set to "my home xbox"), then i went offline. They all still work, even dlc and games without physical versions. My only concern is i cant find assurance from Microsoft that theres NEVER a DRM checkin. I set the console time to 2050 (its 2023 at the time of me posting this comment) and all 18 games still worked. Seems like ill never need to go online again?

I dont have internet or cable. Many games i have bought that are "offline" are in such a state ( bugs etc) they all require a day patch or update, and good luck getting that with no internet.

Depends on the game. Some games you can get enough of it but there's always going to be an online component that you'll be denied some fun or accessing a trophy if you're into that.

not exactly what i was looking for, i was looking for something that related to mobile hotspot since where i live there's no router in the home. so i had to use my galaxy s21 network hotspot and share it, but to answer, you can use the xbox offline, but even if you make it your home your still limited to what you can do. if you already have a few games installed, you can play them without an internet connection, but if you want to install other games, you can't do it offline. I've tried it that way, doesn't work even if you have physical games. because the xbox one is not truly backwards compatible, how were able to play old original xbox and 360 games are through the cloud which runs through their server. so basically in order to get a game to run on the xbox one, it needs to read the license, and that information has to be sent to Microsoft and that's how it work. now xbox one games will run just fine since there made for the console, but alot of games made specifically for xbox one and Series X/S usually require an update. there's really no such thing these days as a true offline game, of course games that have multiplayer need the internet, but even alot of single player games do to. because oftentimes the developer for the game has some information the first time you start the game, and you can't skip past that information. now once you register and update then you can play, but all games require an update. with 360 games it's a little different with them, because there are no updates for older games, all that's required is to install it, but any games bought digitally from the store will be in your games library, but you can't go into game library without the internet. i tried it that way, but it only shows the games you have installed.

@@daitaliantiger21 well you can do alot of that stuff offline, disk games can be installed offline, although it depends on the game, but to answer your question. you still need a internet connection to update, a profile or account can be started offline, but in order to finish it, you need a internet connection. we had internet when i made an account 7 years ago, so that explains that. there's times we had to go without internet, we just got ours back a month after this post, but for like 4 months straight we were out. there's things you can do, even though it's limited, but i would imagine if there was no server, the Xbox wouldn't be able to function without it. the 360 could, but from Xbox One on, it couldn't. but that would also mean, no more Xbox from Microsoft. if they stopped making it, alot of people would sell there Xbox. especially now a days, Gamepass and digital game purchases makes up a chunk of the focus. all that would go away, they would be worthless.
I purchased the newer Xbox for Killer Instinct. I've heard stories of Microsoft reversing games so that even with the hard copy, you are barred. Therefore, I refuse to connect to the internet ever since picking up a second hand console and establishing my account that required the internet (seems very stupid). Things I have noticed the Xbox One is unable to do while offline: - allow me to play an audio CD. Not sure if it can play a DVD either but that is not possible either. - allow me to save a clip to view later. - allow me to play online features of the game obviously. But, that is game specific. Fortunately, I have access to enough of the game that I'm satisfied but I get this nagging feeling. That should Microsoft abandon the console wars, the lack of online servers will make games obsolete.

Good video BUT to say "Who owns disc anymore" is something your speculating or reading some fabricated poll. I OWN alot of disc games and to say not many do? You really don't have ANY idea and should say this is your opinion. Lastly IF you own a DIGITAL ONLY version of the xbox, playstation or own digital games then they are NOT yours, will never be and all you have done is wasted money. I know the debate about dics and not owning them blah,blah BUT! The disc I own no matter what anyone says and can play it 9 out of 10 times without connecting to the internet. I think it's sad when NEW gamers are accepting this practice and calling themselves gamers. Sorry, you may accept owning nothing BUT I will do everything to preserve the amazing games I own with their stories that are something is the reason gamers play.

As of today I’m making this comment, no you cannot use it offline. I’ve tested games, ones that always used to work offline, downloaded movies, and messing with settings. You cannot use any of it offline.

@@daitaliantiger21 if you turn on a freshly wiped Xbox One or Series X, you will see a screen saying to "set up" the Xbox which REQUIRES you to have internet at home and to connect the internet to the Xbox. Then you will be forced to either sign in to your Xbox account or to creat a new account especially if you never had one. All of that requires internet to be connected just to play the hardware and the games YOU purchased... And this vidiot did not even bother to mention that some games sold by Microsoft on physical media are basically coasters which will require you to connect to the internet and download 40 to 50 to 100 gigabytes of data which is insane as well as the fact that the game keeps telling you to go online and play online matches even if you do NOT want to do that and do NOT want to buy some stupid Xbox points like the Xbox salesman who made this video did

There you can buy your physical media game discs, install them and play without needing to create no stupid online account.. unless you buy a digital only PS5 of course. This is not clear if you can play offline or not (I don't own an Xbox so it is important to know). Seems like when you start any game you must be online then while the game still running if the internet is disconnected you still can play, otherwise you can start a game without internet because you cannot access your saved game (or may be can only start the new game). There is conflicting information of what you can do. The comments seem to give a more concrete answers and the experiences than the video itself. Basically, MS just wanted to squeeze $60 or more out of each Xbox owner per month, don't they? They give you more choices or they are force you to buy more choices. Clearly, they force you to buy..............
Most u can play offline, but a few are strictly online. Its mostly massively multi-player focused games...

but in fairness to Microsoft Sony does the same, sure the way they go about business is different than Microsoft, but ps4, ps5, xbox one, xbox series games require an internet connection in order to install them. because usually an update of some kind happens the first you fire one up, now once the update is complete and the dev who made the game gets all your information, then you can play after. once a game is installed you can play it anytime, but if you have other games that are not installed, you can only install them with an internet connection. with the xbox your game gets installed in two places, your main drive and the cloud. your right in that they are about money, of course that's why they charge for gold and gamepass if you want that. but even your game library won't show up offline, only games you currently have installed appear. we haven't had true consoles since the 360 and PS3, and that was awhile ago.

Well, on my xb1s i can still play them as long as my gamepass is active. But once the gamepass ends u cant. Its like a built in counter or something, and keeps track even when ur offline. Idk if the newer series S and X can, but wanted to share i have done it b4

Ok but the discs dont work either. I cant play anything on my xbox one, we dont have internet at my house and all the discs we put in give this exact message. I just got a new series S. Its set up as my home xbox. We had public works knock out the blocks internet today. I went offline mode, but almost all my games will not load. Any idea why? I used to have a Xbox one s and had no issues playing my games offline but when I upgraded when I was gifted a Xbox series s only a handful of games was playable offline and the majority 400+ gave me the damn message that I needed to be online but I did noticed the games I was able to play offline was the games I picked to play until 100% complete or at least finish the story once and were games that got launch when I was online so I tried with one of the games i couldn't play offline launched it online and quite the game once I sow the title screen and shifted to offline mode and it worked perfectly and was happy and then I got mad realizing I had to do this damn process to the rest of my library 400+ it took me two weeks taking my sweet ass time but it was worth it and yes the series s was set to my home Xbox but for some reason if I wanted to play my games offline I had to launch each game once online I hope I was able to help anyone

Step 1. Go to settings click sign in, security & passkey under change sign in preference & security preference click it and make sure it says no barriers .
2. Click intant sign in and make sure it's linked to your primary profile.
3. Click control link and also make your primary profile is linked to that as well.
4. Make sure your console is set to home console .
Follow these steps and you literally do not have to be online even if your system is fully shut down and turned on later .
You will be able to access all of your game pass games as well as your purchase games without ever having to be online.
@@RemyJackson if you follow those steps exactly, you won't have problems anymore. I just tested it out on my wife's Xbox and mine and I took myself completely offline and I made sure my router was disconnected and everything low and behold it worked

Yes unfortunately.. BUT..
You will be able to install/launch any "SeriesX" only games, at the moment there are very few tho (ex: Judgment, SoundMind, some sports games, etc)
The sad part is here:
For any XboxOne games, you'll be able to install the game but launching the game will ONLY be possible once you've connect to the internet. (Just for the first time)
Even the one that has SmartDelivery (ex: ForzaHorizon5, Cyberpunk, Farcry6, etc)
Btw, I do own the SeriesX and I dont have internet at home at the moment so yeah.. it kinda suck, I hope MS is working on something here cuz it gets really anoying everytime I buy a new game

@@Abel-Alvarez In other words, ANY XboxOne/SmartDelivery games needs to be launch with internet for their first time only. After that, you're good to go. Your system will run those games with the last update they had.
I would suggest to unchecked the "keep my system and games updated" in your settings. That will prevent you to be force to update everything you got installed when you connect your system to internet later on.

Ive had problems even when having physical discs, almost feeling that you don't own them. I guess I'm just getting old and any issue that comes along is harder to fix than the good old days of just having a Nintendo 64 playing 007 with friends, and internet not being an issue. I have an Xbox Series S and just recently got a game called “StarField” I want to play it offline, but I’m afraid that it won’t count my achievements. I have been confused if it simply won’t give it OR that I does give it once I get back online. There was never really a straight Yes or No answer.
It should count your achievements because the Xbox will remember what you did in the game for the most part and find out you have some achievements sometimes it doesn't work on some games for some of the achievements but that's some out of most games that have this problem

So many comments that this doesnt work, but as far as i can tell it does. I have 18 games. I played them all while online at least once (yes the console is set to "my home xbox"), then i went offline. They all still work, even dlc and games without physical versions. My only concern is i cant find assurance from Microsoft that theres NEVER a DRM checkin. I set the console time to 2050 (its 2023 at the time of me posting this comment) and all 18 games still worked. Seems like ill never need to go online again?

Depends on the game. Some games you can get enough of it but there's always going to be an online component that you'll be denied some fun or accessing a trophy if you're into that.

not exactly what i was looking for, i was looking for something that related to mobile hotspot since where i live there's no router in the home. so i had to use my galaxy s21 network hotspot and share it, but to answer, you can use the xbox offline, but even if you make it your home your still limited to what you can do. if you already have a few games installed, you can play them without an internet connection, but if you want to install other games, you can't do it offline. I've tried it that way, doesn't work even if you have physical games. because the xbox one is not truly backwards compatible, how were able to play old original xbox and 360 games are through the cloud which runs through their server. so basically in order to get a game to run on the xbox one, it needs to read the license, and that information has to be sent to Microsoft and that's how it work. now xbox one games will run just fine since there made for the console, but alot of games made specifically for xbox one and Series X/S usually require an update. there's really no such thing these days as a true offline game, of course games that have multiplayer need the internet, but even alot of single player games do to. because oftentimes the developer for the game has some information the first time you start the game, and you can't skip past that information. now once you register and update then you can play, but all games require an update. with 360 games it's a little different with them, because there are no updates for older games, all that's required is to install it, but any games bought digitally from the store will be in your games library, but you can't go into game library without the internet. i tried it that way, but it only shows the games you have installed.

you still need a internet connection to update, a profile or account can be started offline, but in order to finish it, you need a internet connection.
we had internet when i made an account 7 years ago, so that explains that.

there's things you can do, even though it's limited, but i would imagine if there was no server, the Xbox wouldn't be able to function without it.

I purchased the newer Xbox for Killer Instinct.
I've heard stories of Microsoft reversing games so that even with the hard copy, you are barred.
Therefore, I refuse to connect to the internet ever since picking up a second hand console and establishing my account that required the internet (seems very stupid).
Things I have noticed the Xbox One is unable to do while offline:
- allow me to play an audio CD. Not sure if it can play a DVD either but that is not possible either.
- allow me to save a clip to view later.
- allow me to play online features of the game obviously. But, that is game specific.
Fortunately, I have access to enough of the game that I'm satisfied but I get this nagging feeling. That should Microsoft abandon the console wars, the lack of online servers will make games obsolete.
There are people that sell sealed consoles even after the servers are down for the consoles, can you create a profile offline or use the internet just to make a profile even if the servers are down? I want someone who knows how PS4, PS5, XBOX One, and XBOX Series X works if servers are down and you have a sealed console? How does it work?

Good video BUT to say "Who owns disc anymore" is something your speculating or reading some fabricated poll. I OWN alot of disc games and to say not many do? You really don't have ANY idea and should say this is your opinion. Lastly IF you own a DIGITAL ONLY version of the xbox, playstation or own digital games then they are NOT yours, will never be and all you have done is wasted money. I know the debate about dics and not owning them blah,blah BUT! The disc I own no matter what anyone says and can play it 9 out of 10 times without connecting to the internet. I think it's sad when NEW gamers are accepting this practice and calling themselves gamers. Sorry, you may accept owning nothing BUT I will do everything to preserve the amazing games I own with their stories that are something is the reason gamers play.

As of today I’m making this comment, no you cannot use it offline. I’ve tested games, ones that always used to work offline, downloaded movies, and messing with settings. You cannot use any of it offline.

Will you still need internet connection or will it still work if the server is down in the future? Can you make a profile offline? Can you skip making the profile and just play a video game disc? Do video game disc need to be install using the internet or does a video game disc install offline? Is installing a video game from a video game disc required or you can just play from the video game disc?

@@daitaliantiger21 if you turn on a freshly wiped Xbox One or Series X, you will see a screen saying to "set up" the Xbox which REQUIRES you to have internet at home and to connect the internet to the Xbox.
Then you will be forced to either sign in to your Xbox account or to creat a new account especially if you never had one.
All of that requires internet to be connected just to play the hardware and the games YOU purchased...
And this vidiot did not even bother to mention that some games sold by Microsoft on physical media are basically coasters which will require you to connect to the internet and download 40 to 50 to 100 gigabytes of data which is insane as well as the fact that the game keeps telling you to go online and play online matches even if you do NOT want to do that and do NOT want to buy some stupid Xbox points like the Xbox salesman who made this video did

There you can buy your physical media game discs, install them and play without needing to create no stupid online account.. unless you buy a digital only PS5 of course. Also you can watch 4K HDR blu ray movies with ultra sharp image and sound quality on the Sony PS5 and a 4K HDR HDTV.
