    Hey Kristian, wanted to let you know I bought Athletic Greens. I am really enjoying it. The first time I drank it I thought it tasted a bit strange but now I quite like it. So far so good. Been feeling a more stable energy throughout the day.

    The opening still holds up, with the Paramount logo, the music, the jets getting ready, and then hearing Danger Zone with jets landing and taking off

    My Dad never liked movies. We never went to go see one, he didn't like my Mom taking me when I was younger (she didn't listen, bless her.) But he loved this movie. He was in the Air Force and was proud to be a veteran. Once at a family 'talent' show, a bunch of the men in my family got my Grandma in a chair and sang the "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" song and my Dad knew every word, every move from the movie. He's been gone for 6 years now, can't believe it. But I really want to watch this movie now and the sequel. Miss ya, pops.

    I loved hearing you guys talk about the fighter pilot culture in top gun. Half of my classmates from the air force academy went on to be pilots and I can say this movie naps that culture. You end up going through so much 💩 with these guys that you’re locked up with for years on end and you get through it by leaning on each other and laughing about it. FYI a lot of pilots come from the military academies so there is history together before they even get into pilot training

    great rewatch episode with a little history of the days when VHS tapes were the same price as Nintendo cartridges at 79.99 and 69.99 if the movie was on sale. You also had to pray every time you rewind your movie so that the VCR wouldn't get its gears screwed up and it chops up the tape in the VHS or worst case scenario it you VCR would break and you would have to take it into the repair shop.

The best word I can thing of to describe it is emotional. I haven’t felt like that in a movie for a long time, just emotional… all the way through. I watched this movie for the first time in preparation for Maverick and I'm guessing this is a different generations thing because I wasn't crazy about it like everyone else (or at least the die-hard fans). It's not a bad movie as the scenes when they're flying are incredible, I just thought the characters were pretty hollow to me and didn't really grab me. I get the appeal, but I thought it was just average. Excited for Maverick though!

    • @gcolbyp
      @gcolbyp 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@30AndHatingIt No, I love Empire! But that one’s not really comparable since it’s a sequel and I already got to know the characters from A New Hope so I had that emotional attachment.
      And I know it sounds like I didn’t like Top Gun because it came right before i was born and thinking it’s a product of its time, but really my problem is more lied with the fact that I didn’t care for the characters and just wasn’t emotionally invested.

      I'm guessing/hoping that after seeing "Maverick", you will appreciate the first one even more. I dare say you'll even go back and rewatch for the hidden references that you might have missed and end up enjoying it a lot more the second time.

    • @30AndHatingIt
      @30AndHatingIt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes I kinda view Empire as almost the beginning of a two film set… the first one was definitely George throwing something against the wall and hoping it would stick, which it did, while the last two feel more connected.
      Anyway, comeon man… how do you not feel anything for the characters… Mav living with the death of his father every day and acting out because of it, screwing up, yet wants to be better. Then Goose dying on him. His family devastated. Anything?

    I like "Top Gun", but I would not call it a great movie. I think it has a great 1980's MTV style, the editing and flying sequences are excellent, and the move is quotable, and fun. I don't think its a particularly deep movie and feels very surface level. I do love the soundtrack and have been listening to it often leading up to the sequel. I love Tom Cruise as an actor and his body of work is amazing. I'm very much looking forward to the sequel, "Top Gun: Maverick" and will see it in the cinema. Props to the late great Tony Scott for having a great directorial style. Love his other work like "Beverly Hills Cop II" and "Enemy of the State".

    Pete Mitchell actually had an equation or bond with Rooster, Goose's son from the first movie as well besides Penny. Like unlike the other pilots, Rooster is not a stranger to him and there is some familiarity there cuz there are 2 scenes from the first top gun where he was playing with/entertaining Bradley so...I saw top gun yesterday on Paramount plus fir the first time. It was fine and seemed a bit dated and some of those blurry, poor cinematography shots kind of bothered me cuz we are so spoilt and used to today's gold standards of filming and cinematography. Also, Kristian please can you react to George Miller's new trailer 3000 years of longing. Looks as crazy and wacky as EEATO!

    Iceman’s reaction by biting to a comment Maverick responds with might just be unscripted because the only reason why I could understand that reaction being used is Iceman is angry since his criticism about Maverick is dangerous for how he flies failed to get an angry response from Maverick.
