My mom legally came to the U.S. when she was 14 years old in the late 1960s early 1970s. She clawed and fought to her way to get through racism, hard work, and saved up enough money to buy a house. The stories she told me about the hard life she went through made me think of the ridiculous petty things I complained about my pampered life.
Through her sacrifice (in addition to my work experience), I have a roof over my head and food on the table.
Respect the older generations who worked their ass off so that we could have it easy.

Very true. Black Marines from El Toro Base heard a couple of white guys were singing R&B and blues at The Black Derby and dropped by to check it out. Were impressed enough to holler "That's righteous brother" and greeted them saying "How you doin' righteous brothers" on their way into the club. Both Bill and Bobby have told that story. Took it as a term of respect and would never have used it otherwise.

I LOVE seeing people discover this great music. The great Smokey Robinson was once asked about Motown being black music to which he instantly replied...Motown is EVERYONE'S music.
