- I have decided to sell the RD-4, if you have an interest, get in touch.
Overall this is a good tractor, the hard/expensive stuff is working well and it has a solid undercarriage. The rails and grousers are worn, but this will never be a front-line tractor again and there's enough life in both for this tractor to bring smiles for miles.
The only other item of note is that the pony is not running and has no compression in the right cylinder, my guess is that there is a stuck valve, but I haven't gotten into it. It pull starts instantly. It also likely needs main engine fuel filters, which I may have on hand and would provide if I do.
It once had a PTO, but I don't have it and did not have it when I purchased it.
Looks and sounds great.
I'm hoping to get mine looking and sounding that good someday.
Enjoy the journey! Check out ACMOC.ORG if you haven't already, lot's of Caterpillar info there.
Looks like a nice tractor!
It is a nice machine, 87 years and still ready to go.
Are these mainly just used for pulling, or what else could they be used for?
Many, if not most Caterpillars in this era were destined for ag uses or used to pull construction equipment, like scrapers, graders, etc. The development of self-propelled specialized equipment was just beginning, and many buyers wanted machines that could be used for a variety of purposes. In fact, most dozer blades at this time were supplied as after market equipment and not factory installed.
Interesting. Thanks!
You bet!
