If the wire rope had snapped it would have be a good demonstration of the golden rule “never stand in line with a cable under load” or you’re likely to be paying a visit to A@E or a morgue.
Well it was a Ploughing Engine, capable as it was, not really built for dead weight pulls. Then likely hood on the day to have a Fowler Stump puller at hand.. old Fordson likely do as well. Nice to see at work elsewise, than a cold display.. can smell hot oil.
@@Dave.w-ev9qn1962 I'm at that age..! can't recall if had seen an Engine, been mentioned in Fowlers Book or another Publication on Steam. Like all the systems/ideas over the years on Steam Ploughing itself. Winch drum was on N/S axle behind wheel, think firebox/tender was reduced to compensate for drum, not sure if only winched to rear or forward as well over front axle. Engines may have been Export Models and at a guess wood burners..!
@@dewipeach Well yes I’ve seen a few Christmas days too🤣 62 now! I was thinking you were describing some sort of free standing gear. Yes familiar with the winch inside the rear wheel. lot of agricultural engines have them fitted. I know fowlers built a b5 model called the stump cutter, may be that’s what you are thinking of. Seen photo’s of fowlers grubbing out old orchards using the drum on ploughing engine, but not big trees. Thanks for coming back to me with the info👍
Think I’ve found photo of engines you were thinking about! They were Fowler b6 built in 1920s, they were heavy haulage engines with strengthened shafts and transmission, and massive rope guide rollers on the back. Mainly built for export market, 12 of them went to the Australian irrigation commission in Yanco. I bet they was some tool back in the day!!💪
@@Dave.w-ev9qn1962 Hi Dave, Yep we've sorted on Engine was likely the B5 model, only heard it referred to as "Puller" of course there's always the misinformed of given details. Agricultural engines had a smaller drum as most work was short/close winching operations/recovery. Yeah as capable an AA/BB1 were pulling Orchard trees was very little issue.. that big ol' Oak although dead, had a massive root system.. again have heard the root spread is double the crown, if correct. Cheers Davey
Don't know what they thought they could pull on wet grass with those road wheels on that engine . Definitely not much including its on weight 😂 . Needed some proper deep lug ag thread wheels if they plan on doing any plowing or fields related work .
Here's a short video of Fowlers doin' what they do best - plowin' !!! At the National Ploughing Championships 2024 th-cam.com/video/zBQWnEa2Wz8/w-d-xo.html
Super film - Like !!!
great to see it in action

Don’t think I’ve heard of fowlers stump puller!
Was it like a windlass?

Never pull from the front, it is only the boiler river taking that strain, all pulls from the back end.
I always wondered on when you see all the Engines linked and pulling large loads, to this not happening pulling the smoke box off..!
It was a rolling load, just didn’t have traction on the wet grass. Not a lot of strain - the tractor wasn’t even working hard…
Pulled from any angle, the drum perch on boiler is taking it
@@biasbilt Cheers on Info.. Engines for the Over Engineering had an easy life, why still around if not rotted out.
Your absolutely right

It seems , that whas not that easy then expectet …
They are very good at what they do. Apparently it isn’t this :o)

I love steam engines, particularly Fowlers, but this was a POOR demonstration of what it can do❗Disappointing❗🖖
didnt pull nothin down , just all lies and stupid at best
