Elterwater and Loughrigg - Lake District mountain biking

A very wet ride in the heart of the Lakes. There are some fantastic trails, and views, around Loughrigg and Elterwater. However, it is a very popular part of the Lakes. I thought that it would have been quiet with poor weather but there were still loads of walkers on Loughrigg Fell.
Sorry about any water on the lens, it was a particularly moist day.
The ride was unfortunately curtailed with a mechanical. Fortunately it was only a short walk back to the car.

Rode Loughrigg Terrace yesterday (Sunday) big mistake as packed with walkers. Carried on up & over to Iron Keld & High Cross car park, excellent return leg
Yeah Loughrigg Terrace can get pretty busy with walkers. Can be a bit of a gamble. Definately one to avoid on summer bank holidays unless you get an early start!
Great ride and vid mate. That descent on the left at that fork is a beauty. Shame about the mech. But lucky it was so close to the end. I’ll be getting back to the lakes now we are heading for autumn/winter. Not so many walkers. Doing a skiddaw loop soon if you fancy it

Skiddaw loop sounds good. When are you thinking? By the way my fitness is awful at the moment so I may hold you back a bit!
Not sure when. It will be weather depending as it’s a 27 mile ride. So it be a little miserable if raining. It’s something I would possibly do during the week rather than a weekend. Although it’s not that popular for walkers as they just head to the summit. So if it was a weekend it would be an early start to get parked.

Unlucky mech strike. I've been forced to convert to a dodgy balance bike in the past, it was mainly downhill though, to a pub and taxi
Yeah I've done that too with snapped chains. Walk wasn't too far fortunately

Beautiful place. Is the trail relatively flat? The first half of the video I mean. I’m in the Lakes next month and looking for a scenic but easy tail to take the kids on. Thanks!
Hi, its pretty lumpy actually, so not ideal for young kids. I would recommend the trail along the Western shore of Windermere from the ferry terminal to Wray Castle. This undulates a bit but is mostly easy going. You could slso extend to Hawkshead from Wray Castle on the resurfaced bridleway past Blelham Tarn.

What tyres do you run? i live in the south downs park, so run fast running maxxis aspens on my santa crus blur, they would last 200 yards up there.
Hi, currently running Maxxis High Rollers. I have had them on for about 10 months but undecided if I like them or not. I think Maxxis Forecaster run better in the wet and mud. The High Rollers are pretty good on dry rock. I run tubes with high pressures though and so I probably don't use them at their optimum pressures.
