Fun fact: Similar to how the bridge north of seers with the random workman was pivotal for fremennik trials context and intuition of players on release as a new region, Shilo Village shares that same recency bias in its design choices regarding the necklace. Shilo village was released january 27th, 2003. Bronze wire was added to the game on January 27th, 2003. The design assumption at the time was that players would be told to make something bronze for a necklace, go to the smithing interface, and immediately notice a brand new item that could now be made. It was very obvious then which bronze item the quest wanted because bronze wire was added to the game specifically for this quest.
I don't think you can call this recency bias. Trufitus straight out says to make something with the bronze to then make into a necklace. I don't know if it's the series getting to him, but the fact he didn't even look at what he could make out of a bronze bar for at least 30 minutes shows he wasn't thinking clearly. Missing the chisel on the pommel is a little more understandable, but considering he also had to chisel the key from the bone should have hinted at what needed to be done. He could probably do with a break from this series.
The whole time I was practically SCREAMING "wire." Absolutely dumbstruck when it didn't work. Incredible how much effort it takes to solve these things on your own!
honestly this series would be a good resource for Jagex to see if things could be cleaned up or made more intuitive, whether for updating old quests or designing new content
Yeah some of these old rs classic era quests are just godawful, so much unintuitive clunkiness. Would totally vote for them being given a fresh lick of paint
I think it's just the opposite - it shows how many clues, hints, and general guidance are already included in old quests that people ignore or forget because they're so used to using wiki walkthroughs.
@@Gamer2k4 I think the iron spit episode is a good example of WHY the quests needs to be cleaned up a bit. There was no real hint that he'd need to smith it, at least not through the quest itself.
I remember when I tried doing Shilo Village guideless back in 2008. Took me literally a whole day as I kept forgetting things and the nearest bank that I was aware of at the time was the Jad bank.
Keep in mind this video probably covers about an afternoon of playing the game. It makes for good content because we get to see all the thought processes and puzzle solving with it, and of course there's all the time spent editing the video, but he can put out regular videos because each one doesn't encompass 500 hour grinds like some other content creators.
@@Gamer2k4 Ye I'm very blessed to be able to put in around 2-3 hours of gameplay on average per video most likely, sometimes less, sometimes more (underground pass/mm I'm looking at you). Editing is the bulk of time.
Shilo Village was definitely among the quests I really had no idea how to do without guides. There's so damn many scraps and papers you need to stumble upon, understand their meaning and finally figure out how you would make a necklace in this game where all necklaces are made differently 😂 Well played!
As someone who tried to do Shilo Village without a guide a year or two back, I totally feel your pain. It's actually the quest that made me start using guides, along with Mourning's End Pt 2 (can't wait for that one in this series). Great video!
The old classic for when you get stuck in old point and click adventure games holds just as true in old runescape quests it seems: Just start using every item with every other item!
This one must have been really rough. Of all the places to be stuck running around not knowing what to do, Karamja has got to be the worst. Everything about navigating Karamja is just miserable. Even Morytania is less gross than that infernal jungle.
Boy its a miracle you still had the chisel in your inventory once you got the bronze wire, if you hadn't lucked into using it w. the pommel that might have been the end of the account right there
I see. I click. Unguided has never disappointed and this was SO GOOD! Keep up the epic work, fine Sir. Your perseverance and dedication are an inspiration. You're bringing back so many memories for my partner of running around not knowing what the hell to do and discovering Runescape as it unfolded before them. I wish you all the happiness because you're certainly spreading it through these vids
"Nothing interesting happens." and "You search the crate but find nothing" would make for some AWESOME merch. Just a simple sentence on a hoody or shirt. Let's goo!🔥
Lmao spent 10mins yelling at my phone make bronze wire! Haha loving the series! I was stuck on this quest for awhile back in the day so don't feel bad. Loving all the content
Ended up a little tired and mostly drunk after work yesterday meant to watch this with supper watching with breakfast and I don't regret this, what was Friday entertainment turned into Saturday which is great cause I don't have to work and literally had no plans 😅 great content keep it up!!!
I wonder if you had the brass necklace mistaken as a bronze necklace. Pretty sure you can pickpocket a brass necklace from the ham guards but that wouldn't work for the quest
"Maybe i actually need to make something else that can be like used as a necklace, maybe wire? Cause you can like wrap it around your neck or whatever" YES!!! FINALLY! *proceeds to use the pommel on the wire* NO!!!
Watching your series makes me realize how bad this game actually has to be for new players. I fail to see it sometimes, because I have played pretty much non stop for 20 years, and have done every quest multiple times on many different accounts, But for someone new who knows nothing about this game, they really do a poor job with some of these quests and telling you what and how to do something.
Oh God. I did Shilo Village just before I started the Fremmenik questline, I wasted a ton of time digging around cairn isle because that is the more obvious ruins near water, than when I did find the right (looking on the wiki, sorry) I would wind up going back there 4 times to find the right things. The first time I went to the river cave I used up the fast travel table because I was just trying to investigate the area. Edit for 13:10 : It feels so vindicating you were also confused at the quest log updating with "I found a Mount of Dirt" without informing you where it is. I was so confused as well and that's why I spend so much time digging on Cairn Isle. When I looked up where the place was I realised that the quest believed I had found it before because I died in the area when I first tried to explore Karamja.
I just did shilo village a few days ago on an account and you can ask Trufitus to bury the body but he will refuse because he is a holy man. Idk if the feature is on osrs since I'm speaking from playing on rs3
You know what they say, pride cometh before the fall :P Thinking you know something in a runescape quest before being humbled seems to be a common theme so far and im here for it.
as soon as i saw the smithing menu first thing that popped in my mind was a wire with jewelry on it is a sort of a necklace. hopefully he figures it out quickly... my man 10hrs later figures it out.
Broodoo victims are an interesting npc. I wonder if the game explains their mechanics anywhere but I can tell you at least that you are not meant to be fought with normal weapons/magic. You would need to do the minigame eventually, but since it is not quest related it possibly wont be part of the series.
As someone with no experience with this quest, I immediately noticed the bronze wire from the smithing interface. Crazy that it took him that long to come back to it.
Ngl I would have figured out the wire part quickly, but there is no chance in a million years I would have used a chisel on the pommel unless directly instructed.
these videos are so enjoyable to watch but man im ripping my hair out for you lol . i feel like the only "guide" you should allow yourself is asking random people for help because thats what we would do back in the old days of no wiki
I regret using guides and ruining so many quests with them. But I am happy to say shilo is one of the quests I actually did manage to solve by myself. One of the first actually.
Fuck mate, not going to lie this one was frustrating, suppose you cut out all the frivolous shit but it felt like the bronze wore was a bit more obvious then limbs!
First the holy symbol, now the bronze necklace. Poor man's kryptonite is neck ware
skill issue i guess.
Ahhh, Shilo Village quest, how you viscerally and simultaneously annoy and enthrall me.

This was so painful man.
Though it is just part of it, it feels like the most obvious thing ever.
When you used the bronze wire and it didn't work I was like "But... but I swear that was the correct thing!!!" Of course.. the chisel
Man, getting ganked by someone else's broodoo victims from across the map is a classic; the genuine confusion gives me flashbacks from the old days
When I did Shilo village quest, there was on in the village. Had to do a wide birth around him, very glad they don't poison you
Woops I forgot last video so here's both. Stay legendary, King!

Couldn't agree more 😄
This is hands-down my favorite OSRS series at the moment. Just love seeing things being worked out, frustrations and all.
