    I only buy & majority use Artists Loft level 2 watercolor paper from Michael’s … It’s extremely good paper (from Italy) … both sides are the same. Thanks for the explanation.

      Its gunna sound like a dumb tip.... but it helps.
      Don't leap into giant canvases.... slowly increase in size. This will help you easy into transition and not ruin your perspective of balancing of a painting.

    Have you ever painted with canvasses that have a 2" thick frame? What is the correct way to bring the sky and clouds to the sides?

    • @WildCreates
      @WildCreates  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I have. Having an easel helps.
      You can either paints the sides while you paint the front (This is generally easier) or you can paint the sides after you finish the front.

    I think Bob Ross has magic brushes because he loads the brush with paint and he makes a whole row of bright wonderful bushes before he even has to reload. I load my brush and I make one crappy mud mixing bush and then have to reload. I think he has a button on his brush that pushes out bushes.

    • @WildCreates
      @WildCreates  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know right.... certainly feels like it.
      Things get way easier as your start to practice more..... You have to understand, Bob had a lot of practice under his belt to make it look easy.

    Can you recommend frames for canvas boards? Do any come with blocks to glue on the back?

    • @WildCreates
      @WildCreates  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest I normally just go with whats on sale.
      When it comes to the back - I normally put my own 3M tape or Velcro on back

    • @WildCreates
      @WildCreates  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you - I do sell my paintings if you are interested.
      YES - You can fix up a lvl 1 canvas with gesso. If its dented or cut you may have to use some glue on the back of the canvas and also gesso the back so it has a strong bond

    What is the weight of a Level 2? How many ounces is it after being gessoed?

    • @WildCreates
      @WildCreates  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No way to answer that without knowing the size of the canvas selected

    • @DrummerGrrrl
      @DrummerGrrrl 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WildCreates Actually, you're wrong. Check out Blick Art Supplies for reference. Their Professional Heavyweight Cotton stretched canvas is 10 oz. before three layers of gesso, 15 oz. after gesso. That's true of all sizes of that particular type of canvas. I think you might need to educate yourself a bit more about pre-gessoed weight and post-gessoed weight.

    • @WildCreates
      @WildCreates  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually not true:
      Thats like saying a 4oz glass and a 8 oz glass are the same before being filled with water. One would have more mass to accommodate the volume once filled (Provided they similar glasses of course). Volume/mass = weight ( This simple science right there )
      You could measure weight per square foot or inch of canvas material before and after gesso coats and compare the two (which I am sure Blick is doing slash estimating) - But thats not my job nor would I care to be so tedious with my art.
      Also there are different densities of Gesso out there - adding to another variable I couldn't account for. If you are so anal about it, run a test with the materials you use and measure the differences then you will have your formula you can apply to your needs

    • @WildCreates
      @WildCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Level 2 has a decent coat on it. So it really depends on what you plan on doing with it and if you are a newer artist or not. If you are just starting out I would say adding an extra layer of gesso would help you out.
