- The first 'big shop' for life in Wales. Until I find a good local store I've returned to my old order I used to get in London from Waitrose.

UPDATE: Following your comments the lemongrass has been moved outside. Thank you.
Just a note, Sean, lemongrass essential oil is good for leg pains. I used it a lot before I retired.
What a relief .
I love this channel for so many reasons. Thank you.
Ha ha I know what ya mean 😂 Love watching his uploads
Why have I just spent twenty minutes of my life watching a bloke in Wales that I don’t know put his shopping away ? …………. because it’s Sean ! ……. that’s why ! 😉
😂😂
Why? Another good reason is because sometimes when you can’t do the simple things at present (recovering from surgery) the simplest of things are beautiful. Thank you Sean for your calm and sensitive manner.
It's great watching him. Love the channel
You’ll need a cup of tea after putting all that away Sean 🤣
I am enjoying your videos very much. I have only just seen your channel. I am also in Wales, the North, Sunny Rhyl.
I think it would be a useful item to have is a water butt. I have 4 and a reliable amount of water free in summer.
I feel I have a new friend watching you.
I am 72, also live alone, and enjoy my time,
I am sure you will be very happy back in Wales .Best wishes, Sandra. 😊
Sand
Sean, I am living vicariously through you. I wanted to move to my 'spiritual home', the UK but my adult daughter got really ill and my life has been turned upside down. So I pretend. It's interesting to see the different items and the costs, I laughed at the Felix, we spend most on our 2 cats too. Enjoy, and I will keep dreaming, with visuals provided by you. Best wishes, Kaye in Australia.
Will film as much as I can for you.
For 'lifting' you when you are depressed: being in the garden, working with your hands in the soil and breathing fresh air, that's what works too (yes, there's research done proving it). So I hope there's an allotment garden for you there.
Always interesting to see what people buy in the food shopping and it gave me some ideas. When I buy sausages I wrapped two or three in cling film and freeze them because unless you are feeding a family you end up defrosting to many. I like your journals, it’s like looking in on a friend. Glad you are settling in Wales so well.
Good morning x Waitrose essential are very good. I'm a firm believer, you get what you pay for. God bless, I'm happy you are settling in, back home BURA DAH
I agree. My experience is in Aldi and Lidl is that you have to eat it as soon as you get out of the shop or it goes off the next day.
Egg boxes are useful for chitting potatoes and also for composting. You can't beat having your own house and you have already made it into a home and are clearly loving it. You have a nice set of food shopping there.
Being from the states, those prices are very inexpensive! For myself and my husband, we spend, on a light week, approx 150 a week.
If you think you’ll struggle to get through the pears fast enough, they’re a great addition to smoothies 😊
Lidl porridge oats absolutely fine and under £1 for 1kg. That's quite a saving. 😊
One of the best porridge oats in my opinion ! So good to see you making the house a home. Moving back to Wales certainly is seems to be the best decisions you could have made .Wishing you every success in your new adventure ✨
Just beautiful now let’s have a cup of tea ☕️ 😊
Hi sean, I don't think the food prices are going down, but London prices are more expensive. X best wishes
That swede is called turtnip here in Ireland, a swede here is much smaller and white
Great to see you settling in, Sean, it’s the little things that make a home. Love the radio! 👍😊
Just found you on u tube. My dads family came from Wales. I would like to know more about Wales. In the 1800 s my dad was born 1901 here. I’ll be watching more of you.
Asda is in Tonypandy, they deliver and so does Iceland, also in Tonypandy. Tesco is in Llantrisant, and, they deliver all the way down. Lidl is in your neck of the woods, but, no delivery, yet so handy and cheap for getting a couple of items at a time.
Thanks for the information. Will try ASDA next.
Just a sidebar, if you buy some tandoori powder, mix a teaspoon in with a cup of your yoghurt and marinate one of your chicken breasts in the mix for about an hour (or more). Then put under the grill/in the oven for about 40 mins, serve with rice (or chips) day licious!
Love a haul 👌
@@DGKK55I agree and a bit of grated ginger and a squeeze of lemon or fresh lime really elevates it
New subscriber here Sean who has fallen in love with your radio on the side 😊
be careful using diffuses when you have animals as they are allergic to some of them, same with essential oils
thanx for sharing
I'm joining you in the healthy eating Sean. I've 19 weeks to my birthday, figured I'd give myself the gift of a smaller pair of pants by then😂
Hope something brought a bit of peace to your heart today 💐
I love the music at the beginning and the end. On weekends i watched a British program that played that music...every weekend. Was all British programs...shopping hauls and cooking. R fun to watch...
Well I'm from the US and this is a very interesting video. Thank You
Hello Sean....I found your video extremely interesting and was mentally comparing your prices with ours in Edmonton, Alberta. You mentioned... 'Open All Hours'. My husband and I have watched that series over and over and over... brilliantly done. Have you seen David Jason in, 'Frost'. He such a versatile actor. Your little miner's cottage is becoming a cozy haven. Well done you. Fondly, Dorothy.
Could make a nice pear crumble with the extra Sean 👍
Sean, watched your video today, your shop was eye wateringly expensive. Sainsbury, Tesco and Lidl all do great products at a more reasonable price and the quality is brilliant. Aldi is a fantastic supermarket, but unfortunately we don't have any yet in N. Ireland. Have a lovely day.
Like a food haul. Only other one I've watched is a lovely lady in Scotland. She lays everything out and goes over it all showing prices. Your prices are not bad. Note, greens and other veggies will be more expensive this time of year. I gave up growing broccoli. By the time mine was ready it was almost free at the store. Hello from almost sunny Corvallis Oregon US.
Coconut long life drink they're not permitted to call milk any more, so now all cow milk alternatives such as soya, oat etc are labelled 'drink' . If it was just coconut water it'd say coconut water but I doubt if Alpro do it anyway
You made me laugh with the lemongrass!! 😸
Sean, you can use Vitamin B supplement if you feel a bit down. It isn't stored in the body because its water soluble, plus it's usually not expensive. I like the Vitamin B capsules. Usually works by the next day too.
I found this video very interesting to see the prices in the UK
This was so lovely. The flowers are so pretty Sean. Couldn’t say about the coconut drink/ milk but I’m sure other folks will know. I’m still giggling over the lemon grass stick 😂
I like waitrose essentials amd I am glad you now have a fridge.
I think it was very interesting to see food products from other parts of the world. I'm in USA & so many items are quite different. Ohh those Roses are so gorgeous. Love the colors.
The amino acids within the egg yolk compliment the amino acids within egg white to give the highest muscle utilisation of any protein source of 49% . Beef is 33%.
Interesting shopping haul...those sausages look delicious 😋
Oh they are, beautiful.
Everytime I look for Welsh food on TH-cam, a channel called BackyardChef comes up. I think you’ll really like it. 👍🏼
Just subscribed.
Turkey Rashers, the same as with ham & most types of bacon have a preservative in Sodium Nitrate,or sometimes other nitrates. The thing is these nitrates can turn polyps in the gut cancerous. Lots of us, particularly more mature folks, have polyps in the gut, so nitrates are best avoided if possible.
Interesting video Sean, enjoy seeing what others eat. If you want an alternative shop you could try Tesco, the Talbot Green store has the Agave Nectar and Turkey rashers.
Hi Sean, it looked to me like Coconut milk, they have to call it ‘ drink’ as the dairy industry doesn’t like it being labelled milk! Good shop, I personally love Waitrose as have specialist items xxx
Love watching your Channel. Greetings from South Africa😊
Sean your voice is so soothing and calming
with the oats, if you fry your bacon or anything fatty, then put them in the fat afterwards and then put them out for the birds
Thanks. I will do that.
@@seanjamescameron I don't think it is recommended to give bacon fat to birds. Too much salt and preservatives and carcinogenic compounds. The uncooked oats are fine, however.
A bit of dirt on your potatoes never hurt anyone and means that they are natural from the ground
Prices are coming down slowly here in the US also. I have always shopped weekly sales and that's what we eat for the week. Chicken thighs in our area are BOGO this week so bourbon chicken, chicken soup, and chicken fries rice will be our 7 meals and lunches this week. Your veg prices are to die for though! ❤ all your just everyday living vlogs.
Injoyed your video love watching the shopping haul
Hi Sean, I'm really enjoying your channel. I priced your shop from Asda. I was able to get all your items and matched your brands of oats, agave, and alpro. Came to £74.20.
I know, I've got too much time on my hands lol. I can't wait for gardening season to start ❤ ❤
That's great to know. Always good to save a few pennies where possible. Now can you do all the other supermarkets please? Only kidding! Will certainly use Asda next time. Thank you very much. And yes, I agree, am looking forward to March to start gardening again, even if it's just at the home garden.
8;”8=3 alone in Cincinnati Ohio USA. Lol! Quite a challenge isn’t it? Although, I enjoy wandering to find items I need for cheap! As you know,Americans are undumgent! Our second hand shops are full of beautiful items. I even enjoy seeing how inexpensive I can find various foods, well done sir! Impressive shopping. 👍🏻🫠♥️🙋♀️
Eggs. I've read somewhere (and sounded convincing to me) that if eggs are natural (not washed!) then you would be just fine to keep them out on the countertop. But once they are washed - that removes their natural protection - you can't keep them out, you definitely need to keep them in the fridge. And since the big nuisance about salmonella, USA would normally wash all the eggs before they're getting to the shop and therefore they keep them in chiller from shop onwards. But we in Europe don't tend to wash them and therefore are fine to keep them out. Ever since I'm keeping eggs on the countertop. Though I rinse them just before I use them, just in case. Because they say that salmonella can be easily rinsed off.
Oats. Of course it is a wise thing to do - putting out for the birds. My grandma hated to waste any food items and as we didn't have any garden, she always took old oats, barley or something of that kind - to the ducks in the park. Ducks just loved them.
That coconut drink will be perfect for overnight oats. Its not water. Although you could use coconut water as well but won't be so creamy. I use yogurt also to add to overnight oats.
Thanks. Will open it and see what pours out.
I love food hauls, I like seeing the difference in prices around the world. As for eggs, I raise chickens so I get a lot of eggs. Unwashed eggs can be out on the counter but if washed they should be in the fridge as they are now porous.
Weetabix with ice cold milk is sooo yummy!!
Unwashed Fresh eggs can be stored on the counter, but store bought eggs have to be kept in the refrigerator , because they have been washed and are already cold. Temperature fluctuation will make them to bad. Depending on how old they are they can go bad in hours .if you can get unwashed fresh eggs they will last weeks on the counter ;)
In the UK, supermarket eggs aren't washed or bleached and can be kept on counter unrefridgerated for weeks, past the sell by date also
I must admit Sean that’s very expensive for outside of London, will be very interested to see how much you’d spend at an Aldi or Asda for comparison
Yea but Aldi meat and fruit and veg is absolutely discgusting the meat is always fatty and tough and the fruit and veg sometimes is mouldy the day after i only use Lidl for tins now sick of having nasty meat and veg
Sorry Sean not found food prices going down at all.
I bought 2 bunches of spring flowers this week . One from Waitrose and one from Aldi. Both are similar in size and type flowers, and both bunches cost £5 each. I didn't get more at Aldi, so that shows Waitrose isn't as expensive as some may think. Your roses are beautiful, Sean.
If your have maple syrup , cut pears into pieces , cook them with maple syrup and a little coriander, serve hot with pork . really good stuff!
Yum!
I only like pears that are cooked, its a texture thing. And cooking them with pork is the way to go.
I do like making carrot cake jam with them, though.
My cat has a refined palate. Her favoured wet food is $2.79 a sachet and she's doing her best to convince me that she should be given a full sachet every day, instead of half. She also gets her favoured kibble, Temptations, and organic catnip.
Wow, Sean, with those prices, I think it might just be smart for me to buy a plane ticket to Wales just to do a shopping trip!
Love a shopping haul 👍
I enjoyed watching you do your haul! Always nosy and looking for tips! 😆 I also take warm lemon water in the morning 😊
I just down the lemon without water or warmth. Done then over.
Our prices in Australia have gone up,I bought one litre of Olive Oil at Coles last week , $17! That was the cheaper price (think that’s about $8 pounds ). 1.25kg of dry cat food is now $20 , every item gone through the roof, I live in a rural area in Tasmania and we only have 2 choices where I live - Woolworths or Coles, both as expensive as the other … ridiculous- thanks for your videos Sean, looks beautiful where you live, best Regards- Lee from Tasmania
I live in Australia but was born in Scotland. Totally agree on the HP Being totally necessary. AUD and not on special about $6.60 which I think is about 3.30 pounds. Can’t locate the pound symbol 😅Weirdly I found it interesting 😂
And the branston pickle 😊
Lol… Here I am in Australia as well, quickly doing my Aussie conversions, other than cat food ( I don’t have a cat), I buy similar stuff, cannot do without the HP sauce and have to have Heinz salad cream. I am originally from Bury, near Manchester, came here as a 10 year old.
Hiya! If you push the air out of the berries bags, you will have more space and no freezer burn on them besides. When I was a kid living in France with my grandmother, we lived in a small village- Maximo brought our large order once a month. Even back then! I used to love carrying the order in and helping to put it up. This reminds of that. We went to the marche twice a week in a bigger village. I make small batch jam in my frying pan now that my children are grown. It makes just two small jars plus a table dab - very convenient. But I love my large soup pot too- it will be so convenient for you. I can in mine too- What a nice shopping. I have to go and get mine. I think you spend less the way you did it. No impulse purchases!
I too bought myself some roses yesterday Sean. I live in the Neath Valley and we don't have a Waitrose near here unfortunately. My Father came from Llwynypia but I grew up in Cardiff. Went to Ponty Market regularly though. Love your walks through the woods.
I think the Alpro is coconut milk it usually says if it's water.
I love dried blueberries in my oatmeal.
Take a few sticks out of your perfume Sean, it tones down the aroma. Interesting to see Waitrose prices, nice healthy haul!
I am 84, my wife 78 never ever shopped at Waitrose or Aldi, we do on the odd occasion food shop at M&S, but mainly between Morrisons for meat and it’s the only place I can get Nimble Malted Danish bread which I prefer to white bread, then we alternate between Tesco and Asda. As for healthy eating I have been brought up to eat whatever you like including so called junk food, But everything in moderation and my weight which is under 12st remains constant without the need of dieting.
Sainsbury's sells Nimble Malted Danish
@@angelapitkin7097 thanks, nearest Sainsbury to us is 14 miles away.
It's coconut milk, although so many companies don't call a plant based milk a milk anymore, they call it a drink. I know they sell the agave nectar in sainsburys.
I take all my fruit and veg out of the bags as it's supposed to last longer
Ah, didn't know that. Thanks.
Everything I love. I love turnips. I love all that stuff. Parsnips are a lot here in Massachusetts everything is. ❤❤😊
It used to be such a common sight seeing people carrying heavy bags home from the supermarket ,& wise old folks pulling their old fashioned shopping trollies behind them. Now you rarely see that due to internet shopping.
I have never kept my eggs or butter in the fridge.
Oats are absolutely fine for the birds Sean, bread however is not. I have so many bird feeders in my garden & i often mix oats in with them👍
We only do one supermarket shop every six weeks & tend to buy in bulk. Most meals are based around whatever is in our weekly organic veg box delivery. My local butcher lost my custom when he refused to sell 5% fat minced beef so now we just get a £17.50 meat box from The Veg Box Company, the contents fit in a tiny space in the freezer. Great value for money & ideal for one or two people.
I hope you have a lovely day although i'm sure you still have a heavy heart today🐾🐾Annie🏴
I've wanted to try meat from The Veg Box Company, will give it a go when I run low again. The sun is shining here today so that helps.
HP Sauce in Winnipeg Canada is $4.77 (2.81gbp) 400ml bottle. Original flavour.
Your food prices are fantastic. Our frozen peas and frozen fruit are double those prices in British Columbia. 4 chicken breasts here are $12 and up, which is 7 pounds.
I was almost crying when he said grocery prices are getting back to where they were in the UK! Not happening in Canada yet, is it? Quite the damned opposite.
@@Lucysmom26 I feel the same way. Groceries have doubled here and are only going up.
@@Lucysmom26that’s because the $80,000 arrivecan app that didn’t work ended up costing US $54 million. Sock boy doesn’t care.
Plus the carbon tax is killing us!
Agree with all of you, from Ottawa, the nation's capital. I think Wales has a lower cost of living than England too. My mother lived in Weymouth and she said it was costing her about the same as it did when she was in the states.
Our groceries are not coming down yet here in Ontario Canada yet, but you're giving me hope for the future to hear that yours are... wonderful. Nice haul!
I like these videos very much! Not sure why but maybe it’s interesting to me to see the difference in foods and prices from other countries. I’m from Indiana in the States😊
99 pounds would be about US $126 and that's just about what that haul would cost me here in New England.
Prices in the U.S. are definitely not coming down.
We have to refrigerate eggs here in Tennessee because the eggs are washed. When I was in the UK in October, I washed the eggs I bought and then refrigerated them.
Interesting - I don't understand why washing would make a difference? I'd assume the eggs here (NL) and in the UK are also washed as they are clean in the box. Just curious!
@@bb2021 the bird poop is washed off
Fascinating! I had no idea this was 'a thing' 😀
Googled and found theories about how washing gets rid of a natural protective membrane. And also this: ' In the US, where home refrigeration of eggs is a norm, taking eggs in and out of the fridge can cause condensation, which may facilitate bacterial penetration through the shell. In the UK, consistent room temperature avoids this issue.'
Get a life I hear you say! I def need a cuppa tea! ☕ 😀x
What a hoot. We humans are funny. I hate grocery shopping. Even online and delivered. But find watching someone else’s food haul intriguing 🇦🇺🤣
I like watching what people buy at the supermarket😊
I will try the sausages Sean, they look good. I get some things from Waitrose, bits from Aldi, Sainsbury. Sometimes I go a bit further and try Tesco and Lidl. No Asda near me. I do like exploring different shopping places. As you know we have some good markets in London. If you need more freezer space, look into a small chest freezer, that could go under the stairs or in another room.
As an American living in the Washington DC area, I found your video both entertaining and educational. Food is definitely cheaper in Wales than it is here! But it's great to hear prices have fallen over there. I think they've gone down a little here, too, but still quite a bit higher than they were pre-covid.
Not everyone agrees prices have fallen. Some food prices still rising quite alarmingly. 😮
Interesting to see your prices in Wales. Our prices here in the Vancouver area (BC Canada) have been skyrocketing. Can’t wait to plant my veggie garden. Being retired, I really shop the sales. I use an electric skillet to make my Welsh cakes. But I like that cast iron skillet. My Welsh Grandma used to use her cast iron frying pan for her Welsh cakes. They were the best. She said the secret to making Welsh cakes is to soak the currents in how water….makes them juicy. So that is what I always do. Do you do that?
Have a great week. Looking forward to your next video. Take care.
I will try this method with currants, thank you.
The cats probably hate the lemongrass!
Would be nice to make a sausage hotpot, put your vegetables, and potatoes in the pan, add the sausages and gravy add onions if you like and cook, would last you a couple of days in your big pan, or you could freeze some for a later date
Well that's tomorrows meal sorted! Thanks.
I have 11 children and have had to shop around and without being rude i found the prices of your shopping extrememly high compared to mine .I would cry if i paid what you did
I find Waitrose very expensive and shop at Tesco and Aldi. I allow myself £100 per month shopping and that includes everything. My being Coeliac doesn't help but I usually get these reduced
It may be too late to say so but with extra pears you could do a bit of pear conserve.
Hey Sean , another " food " that has a positive influence on depressions is, nutritional yeast . Just add it to your meals ... grtz from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 😊
Morrisons sell the turkey rashers. About the same price. 6 rashers in the pack. 😊
My dad was first generation Canadian, youngest child in his family. His other brothers and sisters were born in England. I have never been without HP sauce in my house! Currently 400 ml is $4.77. = £2.88.
I am always curious as to how others live their daily lives. Enjoyed your shopping video. Thanks,
Great video. I’m in western Mass USA. I need to start a diet too. We don’t have the drinks you have there. I’ve never heard of them or the meat flats.
Perhaps sometime you can show us where your refrigerator is. Looks like it's below your counter tops. Nosey I know. A fun video .... thanks.
I'm a single bloke who lives alone and I find that keeping your eggs in the fridge really helps with the 'sell by' date Sean. Buying a dozen eggs at a time works out so much cheaper but eating them while fresh can be a challenge. The 'egg in water' test after chilling them can show that eggs to stay fresh up to 2 weeks after the 'sell by' date, unlike unchilled eggs...
I can't compare directly because our weight system is so different, but your total cost seems incredibly cheap compared to the U.S. right now. Can't afford to buy flowers anymore. It's food or flowers. I was surprised upon returning to Whole Foods after not going for a while (which people in the States call Whole Paycheck because they can be so expensive) to find great bargains compared to my other two natural grocers. I also get a discount because I'm a prime member. They have some great sales on organic fruit and veggies. It really added up to some terrific savings. I watch prices like a hawk and go with a plan. I'm also watching my sourcing extremely carefully. I try to get my food from small farms, and my meat must be organic (no hormones, antibiotics) and pasture raised. I don't eat out nor have anything delivered and plan my grocery shopping trips carefully so I use as little gas as possible. Since I have Amazon prime (includes free delivery), I'll order from there (cleaning supplies, etc.) to save any extraneous trips out of my way.
Sean, if you go for probiotics plain yoghurt has the same effect as Actimel and other expensive labels probiotic Yoghurts.. I liked actimel for a very long time but then checked how much sugar is in it. It's not coconut water it's a rice/coconut drink. But if you look at the ingredients and amount of real coconut its technically water with some coconut in it:-) I have overnight oats as well and i use coconut milk in tins aldi and lidl have them very cheap. I only use a third of the tined coconut mil because it's up to 90 percent coconut, mix this with water or a cheaper plant based milk.
That trifle looks yummy. Like your nice warm top that you are wearing, suits you Sir.
Ocado is worth looking at - they regularly send out 25% off vouchers via email to registered users, they show minimum life against fresh products, they use proper storage rather than have people pick the items from the shelves where they are not guaranteed to be, so less likey to get substitutes. Plus they are really M&S items so Percy Pigs are available :-)
I can recommend Jamie Oliver’s one cup pancakes (video on YT), he grates a pear into the mixture so that will help use up one of your pears. They are delicious with some natural yoghurt and a bit of syrup. Be careful of the room diffusers as the liquid can harm the cats so keep it out of reach of them.
It was interesting seeing different foods you hve that we don't have in the U.S.
Sean, I enjoyed the food haul...would have loved a shot of the refrigerator :) By the way, it worries me that you are storing your grocery store eggs out on the counter...I know that some eggs can be stored safely out on the counter but they are usually "fresh farm eggs" that have not been cleaned and refrigerated. Eggs that are cleaned and pre-refrigerated are in danger of developing bacteria if left out. I did a little research just to double-check myself and here is what I found. Quoted from Eating Well---"You can leave eggs from the grocery store that you purchased in the refrigerated section on the counter for two hours. If you are not going to use them within two hours, put them in the fridge until you need them. Unrefrigerated eggs that have been washed are at risk for any bacteria that might be present multiplying. Additionally, when you remove a cold egg from the fridge it can develop condensation or "sweat" on the shell. Left at room temp, any bacteria on the shell can move with that moisture into the egg since egg shells are semipermeable. Even clean eggs with no cracks can harbor Salmonella, so it's important not to just go by the appearance of the eggs. Cold will also slow the aging of eggs, making them last longer." --- I have raised chickens most of my adult life and have left eggs set out but once cleaned and refrigerated, then they stay in the fridge. Anyways...I just don't want you to be sick so if you can make room in the fridge, I would get those eggs put away. Thanks and take care. Kim
