You make an ordinary chore like unpacking the groceries look like a good time. Good lesson here, I guess we could all find pleasure in these simple moments if we put our mind to it. Thanks for the reminder 😊
Blimey Sean couldn’t order most of those items, they are very expensive, I wouldn’t have the money to make the order. I love fresh veg and fruit but frozen fruit is a better buy right now. I shop in lidle or Tesco and I use my £35 a week limit wisely. It’s very difficult at times but needs must. Thank you for your content and being ‘just Sean’ ❤
Same. But it he's going to grow his own veg again, maybe it evens out his costs. Also Iceland are really cheap for veg, pizza, canned stuff , chicken etc & have a loyalty card now that gives you £1 off for every £10 you spend. And if you are 60+ , you get 10% off, whatever you spend. I spend maybe £30-35 a week & that includes treats like a cheesecake or tiramisu at the weekend. I dont drink: that keeps costs low too.
Only on Tuesdays.@@sarahholland2600
Very good you have a 'limit', and still do your best to buy the best you can have for your money.
@@sarahholland2600 thank you for that info, l didnt know about Iceland card and their free delivery. Plus the over 60's discount on Tuesdays, instore, just off to apply for their card.
@@katielee9354 You're very welcome. I only recently discovered iceland. It's been a real help with food costs.
I have Asda the same time every week. Your receipt is online telling your substitutions so you know of any changes before it arrives. You can return the driver anything you don't require and he'll credit it. The driver packs into my bags on the doorstep. They even tell you the driver's name online. I find Asda the best all round home delivery service.
I need that here, imagine the gas we can save, not to mention our time, have a great day❤
The Asda delivery men here in Scotland are very kind. I am elderly , so when they bring those huge trays, they always bring them right into my kitchen and even unload them for me.
I agree with others. I have always found all the information I need online BEFORE I order.
Plus we had to ‘shield’ during the pandemic and Asda was a lifeline!!
I use Tesco they do the same as stated here.
I leave a small portion of butter in the cupboard; the balance of the butter goes into the fridge. If you leave butter at room temperature, it will eventually go rancid.
As a fellow allotment holder I always feel rotten when the first week arrives where i have to buy supermarket spuds, veg and fruit
Hi Sean, I use those Leo peas to grow peashhots for my salads and stirfrys, they are brilliant pushed in to a large pot of fresh multipurpose soil in the garden and they produce fabulous shoots. I cannot get the Leo ones at the moment so you are very lucky as they treat some of the other brands so they cannot be grown. You get loads of shoots
which cost a bomb if you buy them in the supermarkets in those awful bags as posh salad. Please give it a go. x
You can do it indoors on a window sill in one of those plastic mushroom containers or grape containers .soak peas over night add some compost to the tubs .Drain the peas reserving the water .Sow the peas onto the compost and cover with more compost so they are just covered. Now water with the pea water and wait
Lovely fresh nutritious pea shoots in a couple of weeks .
If you do the same with lentils you can eat them after only one week of growing .
I can't believe how expensive those eggs were 12 organic eggs in Lidl £2.35 and cauliflower 59p
It usually is more expensive to buy organic but everyone is to their own
I was genuinely shocked by the price of those eggs .I couldn't afford to buy those
I paid £2.90 for 6 eggs coop, caught short coop local a right rip off huh.
Your receipt should be in your emails. Pour boiling water over the peas and add the tablet. Leave overnight then rinse in clean water. Put the peas in a saucepan with water, bring to the boil, then simmer until they turn mushy. Asda sell carrots in a 1 kg size, but I don't know where they're grown. You bought good healthy food!
@@gwilliams1547 I don't remember that
Wales is an interesting place. Pea soup with a ham bone or some bacon, onions, celery, and carrots. Mmmmmm delish!
That sounds lovely
Yes, that's about the same as our traditional Dutch 'snert'.
Yes, that's what I do with dried peas, ham and pea soup. Also do the same thing with dried lentils. Very good for you!
Plus I add potatoes
That sounds delicious 😋
Hi Sean from Edmonton, Alberta. Canada. I'm following your grocery hauls with interest. For what you got today, I'd say the cost was pretty reasonable and on par for what the same would cost here. Everything looks so nice and fresh and well done you for shopping locally grown in Wales. Loving your videos so please keep them coming. They have become an integral part of my every day life. Fondly, Dorothy.
Some of the items are very expensive but it's because they are local produce and organic its personal choice and budget aldi and lidl are by far the cheapest but won't have the same choices enjoyed video,
I agree. I have an Aldi just around the corner, but they do not have the organic vegetables I want to have. So once a week a ride my bicycle to an organic farm, where they sell their products (and some more, from other organic farmers).
Always entertaining Sean, Some of your items seem very expensive to me. I understand that you want good stuff, but hopefully if you get an allotment soon ,you can grow your own and save a bundle . I would use your root veg in a nice casserole . .
Shoppping seems expensive in Wales. Single pensioner living alone in Manchester, spends less than £90 per month at Aldi. A F/F and separate fridge always stocked.
Sean , my mum would soak dried peas over night in water with a level teaspoon of bar carb and rinse well next day cook as normal and make mushie peas ,
Have you told the local shop about the milk and icecream? They should refund you and they need to know their fridge has been off . Personally I have had better service from Tesco than Asda. Asda's substitutions were ot very good and often quite comical.
Actimel have the equivalent of 2 teaspoons of sugar in one of those little bottles! You’re best making your own kefir. You can buy kefir grains to do this and is so much better for you.
The packet of dried peas in grannies cupboard may have been used to blind bake tarts and flans and quiches. Also you cna put some dried peas in a bit of compost on your window sill and let them sprout and then you can have pea shoots in your salad!!
Best comment, should be pinned.👍
😂😂😂
Hi Sean we don't have asda over here in Australia only aldi , Coles, Woolworths I'm like you simple traditional meals I'm looking forward to colder months so I can make my favourite potato and leek soup we've had horrendous heat waves here in Perth Western Australia 49,° I thought I was going to pop my clogs as it goes lol stay well I'm always looking out for your next video 🏴🌻
Oh wow, I am here on the Gold Coast and struggling with the heat, roll on for our winter.
I agree, it's annoying they don't give you a list anymore.
I try to buy as little as possible from the supermarket. Although I can do that because we are lucky to have local farmshops, greengrocers, a baker and a few butchers shops in different villages - much better quality whilst supporting local businesses.
I appreciate not everyone has that though.
@@camelia9802 it can be a bit more expensive but I find our's are better quality and there is less waste, plus I'm buying from local farms. Of course everyone has to do what's best for them.
I am a bit suspicious of supermarkets! Good healthy shop though Sean.
I wondered if the butter that was 'churned in Wales' was milk from elsewhere. Supermarkets are for making huge profits not or the environment or healthy eating. Little choice but to use them of course.
I enjoyed your video with your shopping from Asda. Laughed when you said you had a sleeping pill with your dried peas. Hope you enjoy your bottle of cider. 😂😂
Thinking about your video, why don't you get your vegetables off your mobile greengrocer. At least you can choose how many vegetables you wont and you know they are fresh. I get my vegetables from a farm shop, I found some of the vegetables from supermarkets Don't stay fresh very long. Just a thought.
So that translates to 148.38 CAD. For 2 weeks that's not bad. I did get a small chest freezer, 3.5 cu ft. It's perfect for one person. I make a few things like chili, spaghetti sauce, baked beans, lentil soup so I have a few choices when I want something in a pinch. I also branch out culinarily but not in big quantities. There was a Y.T. video about this gentleman who patented an organization system for a chest freezer probably meant for large freezers. It was about $300+. So I went to the dollar store and got 5 bins for $20. It helps keep things organized so you don't waste.🙂👍👍🇨🇦
Bara brith ❤❤❤❤ When I lived in Sussex, a Welsh woman owned a Tea room in the village. I'd happily go back from Somerset just for a taste of that Bara Brith she used to bake 😋😋😋
I think this proves to me that shopping around is the best way Sean. I’d be on the bike and away to the veg shop for sure. How they justify three carrots and three parsnips in a bag is beyond me. Anyway, it seems you have plenty to be go on with.
When you make the cake you mentioned will you film that? Think that would be lovely to see.
Sweet tea is ok if it’s made correctly I think back in the day we hadn’t realised Lipton tea was meant to be served cold 😊
I think hubby and I will pick up some Lincolnshire plum cake later with a nice cup of tea. Have a lovely afternoon, big hug from the old farts 😊❤
Dried peas take some soaking & cooking times but make lovely mushy peas. Instructions on the packet.
These days supermarkets are supposed to be cutting down on bags, plastic etc so your delivery is in crates they use again after you empty them. Still a huge amount of soft plastic wrapping your vegetables etc, long way Asda have to go to get that improved by the look of it.
Well done getting the raw ingredients to get cooking proper food - don't forget the bottles of fruit juices are very high in sugar so drink with caution in small amounts.
I wish we had those for orders here in the States. We get a ton of bags, and what good are they once they're here?
@@mackenziedrake More plastic to clutter up the world isn't it, such a shame. Maybe you can start campaigning for crate deliveries in your area, cost the supermarket less in the long run.
@mackenziedrake Just a thought, each time you get a delivery give the driver the empty bags from the previous delivery & tell them to pass on to the supermarket you don't want tons of plastic bags in your house.
@@anniemac3075they will dump them. It's not efficient. They load groceries in the bags they can easily rip off to the next. If they accidentally rip off 2, they dump the 2nd instead of putting it back on the rack. Maddening.
@@wendyeames5758 Oh that's awful, we used to give them back to the driver here for the supermarket to recycle rather than reuse. Now there are not supposed to be bags in the delivery at all.
I Sean Tesco send you a email once payment is made with a list of the items you ordered also if they haven’t got what you want they will substitute with a more expensive item but at the same price as the cheaper one and if you sign up to there club card you get quite a lot of items on offer that are reduced in price ( GOOD VIDEOS KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK)
Sainsbury's do the same. I think they all do pretty much the same now as they are in competition with each other.
I cook my swede in microwave for approx 15 mins whole , you can then scoop out, much easier than peeling and dicing
that is a great tip, thank-you!
I cut my turnip into wedges and find it makes them easier to peel.
Never heard of that before! Great tip! Thank you.
Agree good tip, need a saw to cut bloody things 😂
If you plant the peas you can grow pea shoots which are deliciousx
I did that last year , grew them on my kitchen windowsill and they were delicious.
Morning yes Pembrokeshire is farming land , I lived there on and off for 20 years best potatoes on the planet and beautiful vegetables also beautiful part of Wales ❤
Thank you for another interesting video. I enjoy each one. I am trying to consider what I buy to support the Welsh farmers too.
Thankyou
Comparing your shopping on line to my shopping on line here in BC Canada. Like you I thought it strange that they package 3 carrots and 3 parsnips. Very strange. Your veggies will be so delicious since they came right from the farm. A lot of our produce in the winter months comes from the United states so lots of travel time from garden to table. When I order on line there is a checked box that states that I do not want any substitutions. That way I don’t end up with food I do not want . Check that out Sean. You probably have your list with prices on line with your order. So interesting to see your order. Looks like you have some healthy and delicious meals ahead in the next couple of weeks. Those peas need to soak over night and then cooked to make mushy peas or add them to a stew or soup. Enjoy.
Makes lovely mushy peas, leo dried peas
Hi Sean the peas with the sleeping tablets .😂 (Steeping tablets) are soaked over night in a large bowl of boiling water. Quite stinky next day so rinse really well .pop in sauce pan with small but not tiny amount of water, small sprinkle of sugar ..cook gently till soft ( replacing water if it is getting dry)..serve the resulting mushy peas with roast lamb, or chicken carrots and parsnips, buttered steamed cabbage, lovely mash and nice gravy...or if yoy are stuck ..buy fish and chips and do your very own side of mushy peas 😮😊😊 We love those peas. .but a small bit of work..enjoy enjoy..very traditional and used for Sunday roast chicken in Ireland for those of us who still peel veg and spuds etc .every good wish..
Waitrose is the only shop where they should apologise at the tills.
Thankyou for supporting pembrokeshire farmers asda and sean. I walked past those died peas in the supermarker and had to walk back as i read 'sleeping tablet'. I am intrigued what they are.
@@grumpy_poo I know what it said when I went back for another look.
Mushy peas. Overnight soak with the tablet. So easy to make. And a small pack makes quite a bit. You can’t go wrong with making them. 👍❤️👍
@@grumpy_poo it's amazing what the mind sees sometimes
There's no need for that 'steeping tablet'. It isn't with the dried peas where I buy them (organic food store in the Netherlands)
Maybe you should put your new eggs in the fridge, until you have used the old ones first😮, l think its because you have brought branded items, is the reason its high price, also when you get to the end of your shopping, before you put your bank details in, there is a substitution button, make sure its not ticked, then you won't get what you didn't want
You'd save so much more money going to Lidl or Aldi. Bigger bags of veg, cheaper prices and it's all lovely stuff.
He will be getting an allotment & growing his own veg shortly, as he did in London. That prob helps hugely with food bill's. But he does seem to spend a lot on food. That organic veg box he had the other week was tiny & SO expensive!
@@sianwarwick633 Cheaper to get an 'off peak times' delivery slot. They're £3 at Tesco.
@@sarahholland2600 The Asda Del was at 06:40 ish, so probably free or very very inexpensive.
@@carolineowen7846 Agree. I was replying to the person who thought a taxi was a good idea. Where I live they're c expensive.
Thought you said dried peas and a peanut. Glad you repeated it. 🤣 A very interesting video. Great that Asda support the farmers. I wonder if you will revert back to Waitrose. With me and my favourite supermarket, it's like the Hotel California. You can check out any time you like, but you can never lee-eave...🎵🎶 I think you get used to a brand and way of doing things.
Its always a bit tricky choosing a supermarket. Especially when it comes to fresh veg. I find some of the supermarkets last longer than others. Waitrose is a nice supermarket with good quality things and as you say buying their essential range it doesn’t work out any more expensive and the taste is always much nicer. I like to go to the shops rather than relying on someone else picking it for me. They tend to just grab the first thing where i like to see and choose.
I am fortunate I live close by supermarkets so can walk to them with my trolley ( i quicly add Im not that old, well I dont think so 😂) i know they arent cool but its better than carrying it.
Hi Sean, Maz here from Tasmania Australia. If you wait until you have all your produce together and then open your fridge; you won't waste power.
Hi Sean, if you like, you can actually plant the dried peas into a pot with slightly damp compost but don't water them much after that as they will easily rot. Within a short time you can have fresh pea shoots for salads. 😊
Its a pity you had bad goods from your local shop. We have a box of groceries from our village shop each week, but getting a bit fed up with it now. We had green potatoes and almost black carrots brought up last week, so we order less and less each time. Its their own fault if people don't support them.
10:00 - see Sean, buying Welsh you've lost a stone already 🙂
I can remember my mother soaking dried peas every Sunday morning preparing the roast dinner. If they're marrowfat peas they're delicious
What happened with the local store? They couldn't deliver or out of items? My recent eggs are labeled "Organic, free-range eggs from regenerative certified farms with free-range standard of minimum 21.8 sq. ft. outdoors space per bird," which I thought terrific. I think I've already mentioned roasting cauliflower this winter after seeing a YT video. Boil the head for a very few minutes and roast with or without olive oil. I put parmesan on top with olive oil. So good. I've got 2 lbs. of split peas sitting on my counter, but our weather has so warmed (early spring and almost no winter--El Niño!!) that I don't feel like making more split pea soup. Because I live in the desert, everything goes in the fridge. During most of the year, even chocolate (for baking) will melt in your cupboards. Butter left outside would turn liquid--had it happen (A/C kept high to lower costs). Grew up on Lipton tea (making iced tea) but tried the brand at a restaurant maybe ten years ago and thought the taste awful. Have lovely smelling pink hyacinths outside. Freesia getting ready to bloom. A rain beat down the daffodils--poor things!!
Cup of tea, bootiful. I’m a Londoner, love your accent 😊
Agree and the accent seems to be becoming Welsh-er by the day.
Hi Sean just before your delivery is due, check your online receipt and it will tell you about substitutions you can give them back if you don't want them. I thought your shopping was expensive. I did an ASDA shop last week but i wasn't very impressed with it. I usually shop online with Tesco, when you are finished shopping your list comes up and if you dont want substitutions you can alter it in the little box. If i was you i would have returned the milk and ice cream for a refund. The dried peas i use are bachelor's they come in a box with two steeping tablets but you don't get a net now. I do mine in the microwave
I'm not sure if Ocado deliver in Wales Sean but they are the best online supermarket. They also do a nice discount on your first order.
I echo that. I’ve tried all on line supermarkets and for sure Ocado has been the best. Excellent service. Driver even carries all the bags up the stairs for me. Good offers too.
I have a box of dried peas in my cupboard but I use them for growing pea shoots that I use in salads and stir fries it’s much cheaper than buying seeds.
Asda may be a bit cheaper but waitrose and Ocado give excellent quality and service - and always give you a paper copy of your order to check off the delivery
Less hassle everytime 😊
I have Ocado delivered to me in Somerset. Far better than Asda and Tescos etc. I will always have Ocado. They deliver in bags and you return them with the next driver.
Here in the U.S., our grocery store has the list on our smartphone. We can either pick up our order or have it delivered. It will have substitutions and out of stocks listed.
I bought some of those dried peas with a sleeping tablet, still in the cupboard from about 7yrs ago.
My local shop sells rubbish food, the eggs are from caged hens and are twice the price of the free range ones. Not much choice apart from the big supermarkets in my area of Birmingham.
Dried peas are good for pea shoots and you could put your chest freezer in the study room and take your veg out of the plastic so that it sweats
My friend and his wife are both housebound and use Asda. They say they get some weird substitutions. They use Ocado occasionally but say it's more expensive. If you have an Iceland near you they deliver free if you spend over £25 in store. That's a great way of ensuring you get what you want. I found it strange at first handing over my money and walking out without my food but got used to it.
My mum used to have a bottle of Camp Coffee in the cupboard for years, it must have been as nice as Liptons tea!
Hi Sean, even though you have some good quality foods, I think it was expensive. That's me personally. I have said this as I didn't see any household items like Toiletries or Laundry, Kitchen roll. But it is what is right for you Sean, so hope I haven't caused any offence. I think the fruit and veg you bought from your local green grocer looked better. The Dried peas will make into mushy peas. You soak them in water with the enclosed tablet. My Dad when he was alive made the best mushy peas. Sean I have been trying different places for my big shop at the moment I am liking Iceland online food deliveries. Lots of good offers. You may like to give it a try sometime? Forgot to say Asda and most Supermarkets send you your food bill/invoice by email and it will state any Substitutions. Also when you place your order there is a box you can tick on any item you don't want a Substitute for, if it's out of stock. Take care Sean and thanks for this video. 😊
Considering all the meat you got, 86.00 pounds was good. Here in the states, buying meat is very expensive. Chicken breast is about 4.99 a pound, with an occasional sale of 1.99 a pound. Whole chickens will go on special once every three to four months for .99 a pound and that's when we buy several and put them in the freezer. Beef, we can only buy that as a treat. Haven't had a roast or a steak in about 2 years, and we buy very lean ground meat, I believe you call it mince, when the price goes to 4.99 a pound. Right now, that is 7.99 a pound. Thank you for sharing today. Enjoy your weekend. Catherine
Cantbeat Waitrose for quality. I love them. X
Your packet 15:54 of dried peas Sean are the ones that you can make your own mussy peas with. The steeping tablet gives them colour and taste. The home made ones are much better than the ones you buy in cans !!
that market haul would run about $150+ here in Arizona, USA -- your food prices are less and energy costs more.
I prefer Waitrose too, and agree it can be less expensive than people realise, if you are careful. The Welsh lamb they sell there is probably the best I've ever tasted.
Every time I see your ceramic chicken it reminds me of the series Bread. I just went online and ordered myself one. It’s funny as you get older you want things around you that reminds you of good memories.
I live in South Australia but was born in Yorkshire. The peas will make nice mushy peas. My family have always called them musical fruits. I’ll let you work that out lol
Another good video Sean 👍👍👍👏👏👏⭐️⭐️⭐️
I am always interested in your shopping hauls. Those two cauliflower looked lovely. I can't afford them in the winter months they need to be shipped from California or Mexico and run about 4 dollars or more for a small head. But in the summer I am close to the valley and they grow them up here for about 2.00 each and they are huge. I cut them into steaks and brush olive oil and some seasoning with a bit of parmesan cheese and toast till crispy edges in the oven yumm! Check your refrigerator and make sure the air circulation is not blocked with all the food you are adding. I had a small refrigerator like yours and if I had too much in the freezer it caused the refrigerator part problems. It was very strange. Wonderful vlog!❤
Hi Sean, all the Pembrokeshire produce blas y tir is from Puffin Produce...i used to work in the factory.
Hello Sean! Loving your videos from here in the United States. They really bring me a sense of calm and are quietly inspiring. Thank you.
Steep the pease in boiling water overnight and rinse before cooking the ‘ mushy’ peas. My mam used to add a couple of teaspoons of sugar … absolutely gorgeous and we always had then on a ‘gravy’ aka Sunday dinner 😋
I have noticed prices have gone up in Asdas recently. But Waitrose is so expensive you definitely have to shop around to make your money stretch that little bit further. I do a lot of shopping in Asdas, but I also get bits from Aldi and Lidl, very cheap. Do you have an Aldi or Lidl near you????❤ I don't have much room in a small flat, but I have a lot of storage cupboards in my hallway, so I've put a chest freezer in one. Take everything out of its packaging you get more room pop it into bags or Cling film etc. Just put cooking instructions down somewhere. ❤
Hi Sean, I have morrisons delivered every Saturday, just after i get back from doing overtime in the morning. Morrisons send a text to let you know if there is anything missing or been subbed, and direct you to the email they sent, which tells you what has been shorted and what has been subbed for what, and if you don't want it, you can send the subs back with the driver.
Yes seems you did good.
A good buy for two weeks.
Sardines are a cheap super food full of vitamins and minerals.
Let me share a laugh. I watched your video this morning and you couldnt remember what you put butter into. So I shouted out "butter dish" at the TV and you immediately thanked me with "thats right you were right at the back there "
By the way, I use split dried peas when I make soup.
Of course Sean didn't hear me, but I said 'botervlootje' when he asked what we call that thing (that's the Dutch word for a butter dish)
My gran always had sterilised milk and a bottle of camp coffee in her cupboard
Most local shops either use old pop fridges to store chilled goods or switch off appliances part of the time (sometimes overnight) I have had to stop buying chilled milk etc from our local shop here and go to a neighbouring village instead. I use mostly use Ocado, Riverford sometimes Asda and other times Tesco. The fruit and veg shop in Tonpentre (past Fagins) is one of the best.
I’ve found out since that they switch them off overnight 😱
We always had dry peas soaking overnight ready for our Sunday dinner as a kid. Boiled in a net sack with a tablet of bicarbonate
Why do they need a net? Thanks.
@@dee4174 it stops them going to mush and it’s easier to drain them
I've used Asda, Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsburys and Asda was definitely the cheapest - delivery too. The one thing I didn't like with Asda though is the way they deliver your stuff in those crates, if you don't have a porch your things can get soaked through while you pull things out one at a time. I brought a crate inside once and some horrible black gunk dripped all over the carpet - never again! I use Morrisons now, a bit more expensive but at least they deliver your things in recyclable carrier bags which you can hand back the following week for a 10p refund.
If you think you're getting subs that you don't want there should be a box that you can tick when you're doing your order to say whether you want them or not. You can also get refunds online if you're not happy with anything. Both Asda and Morrisons were great for this.
Soak peas over night with the white tablets. At least 8hrs. Rinse well put into pan and some water just below covering of peas and bring to the boil until water is nearly absorb(thickens) Meanwhile chop some cooking bacon or bacon bones(shred meat off them) mush peas done a little add bacon season to taste 😊 hey presto you have pea and ham soup. Enjoy with crusty bread/butter
I love your channel and your voice. You are very entertaining. In the United States, Lipton tea is one of the better brands. I love a good cup of Lipton tea.
Tesco delivery also has online receipts, and you can return anything not suitable to the driver as well. When ordering, you can choose and state which, or not, substitutes you want.
They have a range of delivery options too, I use the flexi-delivery that gives you a 4 hour slot option, but they do narrow it down to an hour the night before or the delivery morning..... depending on the time selected.
As mentioned in another comment, Lidl and Aldi are cheaper, but I don't believe they do deliveries? Jenny
Love the name of the butter and with the sea salt delicious. So good to know its local.
We can by Collier's cheddar in Toronto but not the butter. Probably the import tarrif is so high, they figure nobody would buy it. No free trade happening.
Hi Sean noticed on one of your local bus trips saw there was a Iceland shop .I shop there a bit prices are very good and its not all frozern also where I live to do deliver to. 😉
Good morning, Sean. I’m in Denver, Colorado USA so your videos arrive overnight. I Rise and Sean. It’s a lovely way to start the day.
Very early delivery Sean !! Had no idea Asda delivered so early in the morning
Waitrose has Royal charter unlike other stores
Hello, here's a tip for you and your viewers: when milk or yogurt start to go off I make pancakes (which can be frozen with wax paper in between them) American (bread) biscuits and for the yogurt you can also make pancakes and I have a great chocolate cake recipe made with exactly one serving of yogurt. The chocolate cake is a simple cake delicious with afternoon tea.
Buy local Sean. Costs more but just eat a bit less. It's really worthwhile and supports the local farmer and farm shops.
I buy the supermarket wonky veg packs such good value and it includes mushrooms.carrots.parsnips.and lots more
I bought a sack of onions in farm foods 2 weeks ago for about 2 pounds .i sliced them i diced some .and then i froze them in meal sized portions .i made onion bhajees .onion soup.fried onions with Sausages mash and gravy.spag bol woth extra onions, cheese and onion baguttes with crunchy sweet romaine lettuce and mayo and some with pickle .
I made cheese and onion and potato pasties.cole slaw.and i sliced some into pieces and popped into a jar of pickled onion vinegar as id eaten all the pickled onions .
Ive still got about half a sack left.when i get down to the last few I will pop 3 or 4 into a glass of clean water each and wgen the green shoots grow i will snip them off to use in soup , salad, stir fry, omelette, sandwiches, on cheese on toast or with welsh rarebit
Hmmm I’ve not had peas with ‘peanut’ (pea net) before lmaooo looking forward to seeing you do these, and I remember my mum having a packet of Liptons ice tea in her cupboard, I too never saw anyone drink it haha but my dad used to have black tea with a slice of lemon in it so I suppose there was a method in that madness lol xx
We have colliers cheese available in Canada. It is one of my favourites.
ASDA send you the list before your delivery telling you any subs..you give them back to the driver and the refund is bavk in your account within 2 days! Packs of veg are weight, not number 😊
Use the gone off milk for pancakes, biscuits, cake. Very good
I agree, the fact that Waitrose deliver in bags, makes things so much easier, also a good choice of organic veg and other items that you can't seem to get anywhere else. Asda for me, is more of a last resort!
Same here - I find Waitrose food is really good quality. Just because some supermarkets sell a lot of cheap food, doesn't mean that its good for us to eat it. Stick to Waitrose Sean!!
I’ll be going back.
Compared to prices here in New England, USA, you did well. Your produce, especially, is cheaper. Leeks are expensive where I live at 2.99 a pound (USD) (that would be 2.37 British pounds). 3 leeks would be about 3.54£
My gran and my mother used to make pea n ham soup
Strong believer in shopping around. You can’t always get the best deal by frequenting just one supermarket.
It's difficult when you live in remote wales to shop around. I know I live there
Thats a bit of a chore Sean finding room for all that stuff when you could be out walking the mountains but I suppose we have to eat. Informative video though so thank you for that.
Not on a rainy day.
Love grocery shopping hauls! I too love having a sheet of paper! Great tips 😊
If the Welsh farmers planted their boundaries with mixed hedging (that provides birds with food and nesting & can help biodiversity if they choose their hedging plants carefully)would that count towards having a percentage as a wildlife corridor? That would save them land that way & they might be able to sow some wildflowers to increase that “corridor”. At our local Park where I volunteer to maintain the park and where we also grow fruit/veg/herbs in a community garden, we contacted local wildlife / tree organisations who advised us on what native trees to plant in mixed hedging as boundaries. We also planted a wildlife corridor and are working on re-establishing a wildflower meadow. Maybe they could do the same with hedging - I hope so as farmers everywhere are being targeted so they will cease farming in this new world agenda.
Hi Sean, the dried peas are beautiful my recipe is to place peas in a large bowl, they will swell, I put one steeper in, cover with boiling water and leave overnight, I also place 1 Gammon joint in cold water overnight, Rinse well just before use. I then dice a carrot, onion and leek or veg of choice, place all the veg in a large pan, add the Gammon joint and peas, add enough cold water to cover add pepper, bring to the boil and simmer for about 2 1/2 hours until peas are soft. Remover the Gammon, take the top layer of skin off, score the fat, rub with honey and mustard and pop in the oven or under a grill to brown. Slice some of the Gammon, shred and add to the stew. The remainder of the Gammon will make good sandwiches. I sometimes add dumplings as well on a cold and frosty day. Xx
I've heard Sean that dried peas make the best mushy peas. I've bought some but haven't made any yet. Here in Canada mushy peas isn't a 'thing', in fact, I never heard of it until I was an adult. I think you just need to soak the peas to reconstitute them, then use them as normal peas. Maybe we can both make mushy peas and compare recipes.
Morning Sean, I usually soak the dried peas overnight covered in cold water. Rinse and when you're cooking them do it on a low heat as they tend to shell.
I do mine in boiling water
Sea salt possibly contaminated with micro plastic particles. I switched to Hymalayan pink salt, highly nutritous, with 84 trace elements and no plastic.
@HouseofLogy but it does have mercury, arsenic, lead, and thallium. It may even include radioactive elements like radium, uranium, polonium, plutonium, etc. So Himalayan salt is also not great.

Oh good grief😂 It truly is time for a reset, but it ain't going to be pretty. I will take a look at that. I have spent the last few years immersed in ancient history, same old playbook every reset.
@@HouseofLogy I always thought it was healthy, but I saw a BBC programme where it was mentioned. Can't eat anything anymore...
I think you got a lot of shopping for your money Sean. The only disappointing items were the carrots and parsnips - I wouldn’t be too impressed with the small amount in the bags (looking at your January haul in Waitrose, you only got 3/4 parsnips in the bag). But on the whole, I think quite a lot for your money.
Great video my grandma also had packs of dream topping I never liked it I’m afraid 😊
Hi Sean,
Good luck with the dried peas. You are a braver man than me .Geoff.
omg why is everyone being weird about the peas
Isn’t that what we make mushy peas with? Love mushies but never made them myself, my mum did, many many years ago, and they were always delicious.
Dried split peas are my childhood nightmare . I hate them , hate , hate . I tried them as an adult and the thing should not be called food .yikes
