    The trick is to get the air out of each filter valve. Make sure you close the T water valve first so water to the filter is CUT OFF. And then perform the following. Take out the last two filters and keep the filter closest to the “in” pipe intact. Then slowly open the T valve and let water run out. Once it runs out evenly, close the Tvalve and perform the same with the next two filters.

    Thank you to this randomly super helpful comment section! My flow was fine the first day after installation then literally nothing the second day. Turning each filter a bit allowed some flow but also caused leaking. Then I took each filter off, opened the canister, took the cartidge out then seated it firmly back in (pushing up the spring-loaded valve), then screwed each canister closed tight. Back to great flow! I didn't even need the washers but if it happens again I'll do that.

  • @michaelblaney9582

    Ok my genius son found the solution. Unscrew the first canister, that's the one that has the low pressure issue. Put three nylon washers on the bottom under the filter, reinstall the filter. The washers will put enough pressure on the valve on the top of the cartridge to allow you perfect pressure.

I was having 0 flow after I replaced my cartridges , it would only work when the cartridge was half tightened in the manifold. Btw , it was the first green one that caused the issue.

      Ditto here, after replacing the 3 filter cartridges in my 5300 undersink setup there was low flow then no flow.
      Put 3 garden hose washers side by side in the bottom of each housing, set the filter cartridge on top of the washers, and then screwed the housing top back on.
      Now I have at least 3 times the flow I have ever had. Yay!

    I had no pressure after changing the filters. I am lucky I found this reply chain and used a washer as a workaround. I agree with the comments about poor quality control for the manufacture of the filters. I also suspect the company is aware but chooses to be discreet since, like many companies, it's all about sales. More importantly, one has to wonder about the quality control for the filters water purifying contents. I am sure the company knows that we have no way to truly determine if the minerals and elements ate precise.

  • @danchang7244
    @danchang7244 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Adding my experience that the solution posted by Michael Blaney worked for me as well. Problem is clearly due to poor mfg tolerance of filter causing it to not properly seat and fully push valve at top of canister. (In my case it was the black/green first filter but I suppose this could happen to any of the three.) The key is to find a shim material to add to the bottom of the canister that is bio-compatible enough to sit in there for 6 months to year. Metal seems like a bad idea since it would rust. Nylon washers as originally suggested are good but you might not have any lying around. I used a folded up plastic sandwich bag, new from the container so that it is clean. Worked perfectly.

    Edit:
    Leaks, leaks, leaks.
    Unfortunately what I did originally below didn't work for long. It started leaking within a few months. Aquasana is selling a defectively designed product. I wasted so much time with this company. Both on the phone and messing with leaking filters.
    If the filter sump needs to be loosened to flow, the unit is defective. They can't be overtightened. They can only make 1/4 turn before the hit a tab that prevents that.
    First they sent replacement filters. Still leaked. Second they sent replacement sump bottoms, but not the cap where the leak was. Still leaked. Finally they were going to send only a new manifold but I insisted they replace all of it, including the sump tops as well. They sent an entire new unit, including filters. Worked ok for 3 months then started leaking at the top of the pre-filter where it meets the manifold.
    I'd recommend staying far away from Aquasana and buying an under-sink water filter brand that works and doesn't leak.
    Original comment:
    I had the same problem with a low flow rate immediately after I installed this Aquasana system. The solution from Aquasana was to open the filtered water faucet, then loosen the green pre-filter slightly-less than 1/4 turn. The water started flowing faster immediately. They said the filter was "overtightened" but I never forced anything, I only turned in each filter all the way. This information is nowhere in the installation instructions. The green pre-filter has to be adjusted just so to get the max flow. If it's loosened too much it will start to flow less. Aquasana should clearly say this in the instructions. Instead it only says "Ensure that the sump is fully attached and locked in."

  • @terrentech
    @terrentech 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I just installed this system and I wish I didn't. Same exact issue . I do wish I saw this video before purchasing. Now I'm going to send it back after having discussion with aquasana on Monday.
    I had a zero water flow upon first installing the system. I inspected the filters and put them back and then I had a very limited flow. I inspected again and flow increased slightly. I found this video and used rings that remain on a large mouth plastic bottle after removing the cap to prop up each filter. Now the flow is very good but I'm not going to keep the janky system, when a new system should be designed well enough to not have issues.
    These filters should screw into the bottom of the cap. This issue would be solved for everyone permanently. You should not rely on manufacturing tolerance of the filter length and cup length for system reliability.
    Avoid this product completely.

    After replacing filters, good flow for a day and then a dribble to no flow. I decided on the easiest approach to the no flow issue (aside from junking the whole unit and going with a new manufacturer). Loosened the pre-filter VERY slightly (maybe less than an 1/8 of a turn). Now, full flow and no leaks yet. Will update if necessary. By the way, don't forget the food grade (sanitary) silicone lubricant on the cover gasket to prevent leaking. I apply it every filter change.

This morning, it stopped completely! So, I got some quarters, washed and rinsed them and started putting them in the bottom of the cartridges. Of course the last one I tried, the black one, water pressure is better than it has ever been! Shim the black cartridge first! 😅Wonder if quarters corrode? I tried adding garden hose washers to all cartridges, and ended up making a 1/32" rubber gasket to add additional thickness to the garden hose washer on the pre-filter. I am back to full flow and have no leaks. This is ridiculous to be forced to cobble up a fix to replacement filters that cost me so much money. Pitiful quality control.

  • @johnkerrigan6748
    @johnkerrigan6748 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I do believe I have a solution. At the top of each filter housing there are two ports (inflow and outflow) and if you notice, the center port (outflow) is spring-loaded. This feature prevents water flow if there is no filter cartridge, though, however, if the filter cartridge does not provide enough pressure upon this spring-loaded mechanism then you will only get a reduced flow. First off, push the cartridge into the top seating before putting the canister together, and if this does not work, drop a garden hose washer into the bottom of the cartridge housing. But do this after you have tried seating the cartridge prior to putting the canister together since the tolerances are tight, noting that one out of the three filter housings leaked with the garden washer in the bottom. Nonetheless I'm back to a 0.75 gpm flow on 50 psi water pressure. Hope this helps. And as a proper note, my 5300 is approaching three years old and of course, normal wear will expand the tolerances. Hence next time my filters are due for a change I'll purchase the two-stage for $100 (really do not need the pre-filter stage since I have municipal water) and have no complaints considering this system is perhaps the most effective on the market for the price.
    Edit made April 5, 2019: Apologies, but I failed to mention that one should start with the sediment filter first and then try every filter individually after that. So do the sediment first and if not successful, add a washer to the next while keeping the washer in the sediment housing. And if that works, for example, remove the washer from the sediment and see if the flow holds, though it may not since both filter housing may need a washer. As to the many comment expressing leaks, try a bit of plumber's silicone. Only a very thin coat on the O-rings, using a Q-tip, works wonders.
    Cheers

My filter is also about 2 years old, and it always worked fine. I think you are correct that the canisters expanded slightly thereby affecting the pressure. Thanks for the help.

      Btw the garden hose washer goes inside the filter canister at the very bottom. It serves as a spacer for the filter to open up the release valve fully. You can use anything, just make sure it doesn't rust or deteriorate. Like a set of stainless steel washers.

Tried garden hose washer - flow was great but housing leaked slowly (tried this in the prefilter first). Removed it and inserted stainless steel 5/16" flat washer. Flow was normal and no leaks. Never had to touch the two final filters. Obviously Aquasana has variance in their manufacturing process - you would think for $70 per set of replacement filters they could do a better job of quality control. Annoying.

    For these filters without a storage tank need higher water pressure. Upwards of 80psi or more. 50 psi just can't push the water through the filters. You can add a small tank under your sink and that will help.

      Thanks for the suggestion Mark, but that is incorrect. The original unit was flowing at 0.15 gpm (repeated measurements, 3 sets of filters) which is 20% of Aquasana's advertised flow rate. With the replacement system, repeated measurements are 0.66 gpm which is 92% of the advertised rate. The original unit was simply a defective system, and it works fine now (no supplemental tank, standard city-fed water pressure) and has been for the last 9 months. No thanks to Aquasana - would have been nice to have some customer service. ANY customer service.

      Oof, haven't heard of that. I replaced our filters a few days ago and the water is still aerated and flows at a much slower rate than the previous set. Everyone in the house has commented on it. It has, however, improved over the couple of days since I first installed them. I noticed that the instructions have been changed a bit and I followed them to the letter. Primarily, no tools (incl the one that was sent with the kit, originally) just hand-tightening only, which seems reasonable. I think if you want better quality, you need to move away from this consumer-level system to a more professional setup from another company.

    My mine leaks after half a year and replacement of the filters. Tightening makes worse. Good idea but a Badly manufactured product! Never buy!

      Not far from recommending this advice. Haven't had any leaks though.

      Yes I found that loosening fixed the issue. You can actually see the container bend and form a lip if you screw it too tight. Definitely only use your hands, no tools.

    Do not buy AquaSana - I've had continuous leaking problems when I install new filters and they will not send new parts after one year.
    If you have to pay a handyman or plumber to go through this process it may cost you hundreds of dollars - so for non do it your selfers it can be costly. For do it your selfers - what is your time worth to spend half a day or more messing with this??
    What should be an easy half hour filter replacement job turns into several hours and trip to the hardware store and water cleanup and phone calls to AquaSana.

    All I did was reinstall all the filters into the sumps, and run the tap for 10 mins per manufacturers instructions, and it seems to have fixed my low flow rate completely..I think it’s just air trapped in the filter that needs purged
