Nice one Sam allowing Steve to use the Titan X, great trust and respect both ways. There's still some top Gents in this world, true support from the well deserved followers.
I just came to watch this video over seven and a half years later, because someone just gave me one of these because it was being retired from his work-place and they were going to send it to a recycling centre! I'm assuming that I should probably re-paste it and apply new pads, so this teardown video will come in super handy. I know I have to make sure that the pads are the right thickness. It's really easy to screw this kind of thing up! I wish they made graphics cards easier to perform maintenance on.
I can't believe NVIDIA is so frugal to not give this channel a titan X. Most youtube channels just do a simple explanation about the specs and then have a very limited amount of non sense making benchmarks when testing a video card. I watched the GTX 1060 review on linustechtips and it was utter crap. They only included 1440p testing and only tested a small amount of games. I watched it on other tech channels as well with the same result. On gamers Nexus they really take their time when covering a product, if it's small or big doesn't matter there will be extensive testing. They give you an explanation of what audience it is targeted towards, they give very detailed benchmarks, comparing them to other videocards. They use useful data such as frametimes, 0.1 and 1% lows, delta T over ambient, scaled over different resolutions. If this isn't already enough to get a card send from NVIDIA they also include an in depth article about everything mentioned in the video and more, so you can easily navigate to it again later on in future or if you want to see the benchmarks again, which are very reliable because of the testing methodology and time put into it. Other then this they also make Hybrid cards, they discuss if the card would have driver issues, how they're going to be fixed. In conclusion you can see that Gamers Nexus really takes its time to cover any product as much as possible while being genuine and original in offering something other channels don't cover. If I buy a card I will definitely check out the reviews of this channel (as I did in the past) to make my final decision. Other tech channels might bring some more humor, but when you as a consumer need to spend your precious money to buy a card you need a very reliable source and this is where Gamers Nexus really shines.
it's rly simple. Nvidia the shady company only gives card to those that have a bigger Fanbase like LTT, GamersNexus with 60k isn't interesting enough for them even though the review's he makes are a lot better than others but in the end the Numbers and not the content counts to them
NVIDIA and AMD already sample us, folks. It's just a Titan X we didn't get, no need to get riled-up. We don't do deep learning content, which is what the TiX is targeted at. That's reasonable on their part, just like AMD has no real reason to give us server processors. That said, thank you for the kind words and support!
Depends if you believe nvidia;'s spiel or not, the glaring geforce gtx logo on top of the shroud would say otherwise, after-all "geforce" is their gaming gpu line.
I don't have a custom loop unfortunately! It would be a great idea though, adding a waterblock to it. My CPU is watercooled with a hybrid cooler too, so it's not too much bother anyway.
if NVidia have left some extra space for more power, does that mean there will be aftermarket cards? last titan x only gigabyte did one with their xtreme
Steve i just wanted to say great job, stumbled across your site/channel while researching my next GPU and it's been an invaluable resource to learning all the technical minutia that other "reviewers" never cover. Subbed and keep up the good work! also is there any chance of a Gigabyte 1080 Xtreme Watercooled review any time soon? I am looking into getting that one, seems to be the best hybrid card 1080 market currently. BTW i just wanted to say you remind me of Nathan Explosion :P
We will be working on the Gigabyte card! A viewer is loaning us one. Can't wait to look at it! And thanks for the kind words. The team appreciates it :)
thanks for the links for tools, etc. The linked article claims the standoffs are 6.5mm, this is far too large looking at ours. The standoffs are very small, around 4mm or possibly smaller. Could you clarify what the size actually is? Thanks.
I'd settle for a set of precision or jeweller's screw drivers. You have way much torque with this multi bit setup, which makes easy to strip the threads of those dinky screws.
You said this was one of your fans titan xp right ? I'm sure he was scared watching you take it apart lol. Either way I know you know what you're doing, just a bit frightening to do that on a 1200 dollar card. good video none the less!
+Bronwyn Corgi Lovah How do you suggest a card like this to be "destroyed" on camera? Compared to 15 years ago, the biggest risk you incur nowadays is taking off a damn cooler, and maybe moving a slider over at MSI Afterburner, and even then the software will stop you if you have no idea what you're doing. Cut the nonsense.
Bronwyn Corgi Lovah the card owner replied to you, hes right below on these comments. I just think its rather, well, bad, that statements like those are half the comments in this video, i replied to another user that was super bothered that Steve threw a piece of plastic into the mat aka the backplate, i mean, are you serious or just here to undermine what hes doing? hes doing everything absolutely fine, hes comfortable doing it, and has taken all the necessary precautions. He did not just throw caution to the wind simply because the card is not his. Nothing is getting destroyed, there is no gamble here.
It's plain cruel to show these Arctic coolers and not say a word about what they're for. I was really intrigued with the double cooler. It looks insanely massive and 6 years limited warranty??? holy beef!
Comanso Rowlett ohhh - hope he won't forget any thermal stuff to put back. PS: rich bitch - this is how we name in my country people that can afford 1200$ GPU's
I'm literally just a teenager who had money pretty much, I don't even have a job JUST enough for a TITAN. A teenager for 4 more days anyway, I'm still in College.CrackedDylMil
+Comanso Rowlett oh cool. I'm just about to be a sophomore, and I'm looking at a job at best buy in the future. I wouldn't have anything else to spend money on, lol.
Looks so complicated and risky, especially of you don't have all the equipment required and organizational skills... Would rather just 0verclock it and have a noisier pc than to break my 1200 dollars gpu. I ordered one, and planning on getting another one for sli later on in the future when prices dro
you guys handle the cards very , how shall i put this , loosely ... have you ever had an issue with one of these cards you tear down , .... tl;dr have you ever broken a card after you tear it down ?
I didn't see him handle that or any card he frankensteins badly. If a card can't take what little bit of shuffling he's doing, then it would probably have broken in shipping.
Gonçalo Moreira if a card cant be handled "loosely" (whatever the hell that means) like they were doing, then it in no way is going to make it in its shipping box to the end user. if you cant understand English or my comment about him "frankensteining" these cards, please refrain from trying to reply in English.
i want a Evga Titan XP Classified. Nvidia sucks so much. BTW, today in a few games a GTX 960 is as strong es a 780ti. Or, more accurate, the 780ti is getting crippled with purpose. OFC, Nvidia uses the term "Maxwell architecture is more optimized"...well if thats the case, why havent the AMDs like r9 380 and 290 not getting crippled? Dont touch games in which Nvidia is involved...at least dont pay for this shit. Its a shame, its only a 2 years ago when a 780ti was 600 dollars and now they dont optimize its drivers anymore, just to make the new cards like maxwell look stronger. And ofc, they are gonna cripple Maxwells performance now. Im looking forward to a stupid 1060 getting 20% stronger than my 980, already see it coming. That was my last Nvidia.
EK makes a waterblock for the titan XP so at least there's that. i wonder if it's possible to cannibalize a PCB from a different card and make your own. Sounds super complex but i'm sure there's some crazy modders out there willing to try it. you could always wait for the 1080 ti ?
theBraxil ease of use i guess an aio on a graphics card is a muuch easier set and forget setup almost all loops require you to change the fluid semi often if you are using just water its recommended every 6 months were as if you are REALLY lucky an aio will last 6 yeaars but i do see your point im really only playinh devils advocate
Nice one Sam allowing Steve to use the Titan X, great trust and respect both ways. There's still some top Gents in this world, true support from the well deserved followers.
As I suspected, one of the best hardware/tech sites out there has equally awesome viewers. Thanks GN and Sam for making this video possible!
It's great, you tear stuff apart so I don't have to, satisfies my curiousity and saves me a bucket of cash.
Thank you Steve and many thanks to Sam! also!!!
Yes i love these videos. thank you sam

8:35 he paused at 'additional' and I instantly thought pylons
You must construct them.
great stuff man, Best one yet in my opinion
sam is the real mvp
so keen to see part 2 and 3 of this. interested to water cooled performance of this card
YESSSS!!!!! I LOVE YOU MAN!!! BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!!!!!

it costs YOU that much buy it at retail. it costs them significantly less to make one.
love you sam and this channel .. really informative :)
8 years ago, wow. Time flies. But thank you from the past!
Thanks SAM
oh here we go again... :D
That IFIXIT tool kit looks SWEET
They sent that to us to try out. Liking it so far! They gave us a link to share if anyone was interested: www.ifixit.com/store?
yeah I'm so rich selling my soul to IFIXIT.. here i am still gaming on old sandy bridge CPU and GTX 980s.. living the high life. -_-
Alright..now to apply the hybrid!
thanks for making this video series! this is very helpful!
i hope the owner has a strong stomach
I cringed so many times...
Yeaaaaah!!! Steve youre the king!!!! Please do a 1070 watercooled, that's the only card you didnt do in the 10 series :)
Thanks, (past) Steve! I was looking for a guide to repaste the Titan X, didn't expect Tech Jesus himself to guide me!
awesome stuff
Do you also need a top fan instead of a blower fan ? considering the water cooler might block air flow from blower.
love these videos
Wow a $1200 Titon X borrord for testing and water cooling, there are blocks for open loops avalable why not use one for Sam ?
I don't have a custom loop unfortunately! It would be a great idea though, adding a waterblock to it. My CPU is watercooled with a hybrid cooler too, so it's not too much bother anyway.
if NVidia have left some extra space for more power, does that mean there will be aftermarket cards? last titan x only gigabyte did one with their xtreme
omg I need to see these benchmarks so bad.
Would you consider doing a tear down of a budget card, say a MSI Aero or Asus Turbo, in oder to compare them to e.g. Founders Editions?
Sweet, cant wait to see some crazy OC scores from this beast. Not a fan of nVidia's pricing this go around, but its still an epic GPU.
Steve i just wanted to say great job, stumbled across your site/channel while researching my next GPU and it's been an invaluable resource to learning all the technical minutia that other "reviewers" never cover. Almost 60k
thanks for the links for tools, etc. The linked article claims the standoffs are 6.5mm, this is far too large looking at ours. The standoffs are very small, around 4mm or possibly smaller. Could you clarify what the size actually is? Thanks.
I know this build is probably done by now. But I wish you would use a 240mm radiator....
Another gr8 vid, i'm still holding out for an evga 1060 sc breakdown and benchmark?
thanks for clearing the fact that you won't mod anything with voltages, I felt answered XD
"Hopefully" -Steve Burke.
Shame it's not his card. I was hoping to see Steve slam that thing into the table like he usually does, it's the most adrenaline part of the show :)
I'd settle for a set of precision or jeweller's screw drivers. You have way much torque with this multi bit setup, which makes easy to strip the threads of those dinky screws.
wow i was about to go to sleep then this video popped up, you guys are the best! hhahaha mad scientists
Does doing this avoid the warranty of the card?
You said this was one of your fans titan xp right ? I'm sure he was scared watching you take it apart lol. Either way I know you know what you're doing, just a bit frightening to do that on a 1200 dollar card. good video none the less!
+Bronwyn Corgi Lovah I assure you 1200 doesn't drop out of the sky for me either! I'm taking a risk for the channel :)
We've never damaged one. ESD safe environment, patience, and experience with the 1080 made this trivial! :)
Hence why I trusted to give it to you, you're a professional xD Gamers Nexus
Bronwyn Corgi Lovah the card owner replied to you, hes right below on these comments.

Nothing is getting destroyed, there is no gamble here.
can ya give me a link to that hybrid kit ya used?
Hoping nothing bad will happen to the card lol..
If you end up breaking it, oh god rip.
please . how did you get those tech
Ask sam if i can borrow it forever
Hello there
1080 and Titan X gets subtitled as Canadian tight necks :D th-cam.com/video/H7HN3CDxMQk/w-d-xo.htmlm33s
wow 1.2k$ and you get a chunk of aluminium for a heatsink
How to void a warranty, lol.
Then goodbye warranty :D
Steve be like Hybrid all the GPUs
One does not simply get a new GPU without hybrid modding it.
Is there any recent GPU that you havent hybrided?
RX 460, but we all know that isn't worth it.
What if 450/TI comes out? Then worth it?
:P
AMD doesn't do Ti, that's Nvidia.
I know that. Was being an ass. Even if 450 happens to come out I know for sure watercooling isn't worth it. Best invest in a better tier AIB.
***** You were being yourself, Pink Guy. We understand you. PLS BRING BACK REAL FRANKU!
It's plain cruel to show these Arctic coolers and not say a word about what they're for. I was really intrigued with the double cooler. It looks insanely massive and 6 years limited warranty??? holy beef!
We'll use them eventually! Those were there in case liquid didn't work.
Gamers Nexus So what its deal? This is the cooler for Titan XP or you can fit it any other card? I'd like to see more of this monstrosity.
Part 2???
i don't know why i like looking at things being teared apart - think i'm sick or smthng
I'm the same... And it's my own card!
Comanso Rowlett ohhh - hope he won't forget any thermal stuff to put back. PS: rich bitch - this is how we name in my country people that can afford 1200$ GPU's
+i raul if you're a teenager with a summer job and nothing else to spend your money on, $1200 is nothing
I'm literally just a teenager who had money pretty much, I don't even have a job JUST enough for a TITAN. A teenager for 4 more days anyway, I'm still in College.CrackedDylMil

i see you got new tools so you don't have to butcher things. looks like it has bits for those nuts
Cool
Wait, does that 1200$ card really just have a backplate... MADE OF PLASTIC?!
you guys handle the cards very , how shall i put this , loosely ... have you ever had an issue with one of these cards you tear down , .... tl;dr have you ever broken a card after you tear it down ?
The card's fine. We've got a high-end anti-static setup, patience, and experience. Never have damaged a card.
I didn't see him handle that or any card he frankensteins badly. If a card can't take what little bit of shuffling he's doing, then it would probably have broken in shipping.
does shipping handle cards out of their box ? you make no sense ... i did not say anything like frankstein bad , i said loosely ...
Gonçalo Moreira if a card cant be handled "loosely" (whatever the hell that means) like they were doing, then it in no way is going to make it in its shipping box to the end user. if you cant understand English or my comment about him "frankensteining" these cards, please refrain from trying to reply in English.
Big surprise it tears down the same as a 1070/1080 lol
Not your card..... THROWS backplate.......
Hes working on a mat, whatever the english word for those, with an AS bracelet. Would you like him to sit the piece of plastic on a pillow too?
He can melt the backplate for fun if he wanted, no bother to me it's plastic
Nvidia saves money on everything but they just puts a hundret tiny screws on their cards which add alot to the manufacturing costs.
wouldnt it be easier to just put a waterblock on it???
We'd have to build an open loop. This is pretty easy!
Gamers Nexus gotcha
I bet Jesus AKA Steve won't answer this
Wouldn't there need to be a question to receive an answer?
Is this a dream ?
+Gamers Nexus lol clever
Jesus of Hardware!
Here is my post of the hybrid mod I did to my Titan X Pascal...
hardforum.com/posts/1042460620/
I'm using the EVGA Hybrid kit for the 1070/1080
60k

Why do you have a bracelet with a wire. Its a handcuff?????
Hello please notice me
no
:)
Damn, I wanted to not notice first
BoggWeasel
sorry
While interesting, it's pretty pointless. Why not just use a titan in a custom loop?
theBraxil ease of use i guess an aio on a graphics card is a muuch easier set and forget setup almost all loops require you to change the fluid semi often if you are using just water its recommended every 6 months were as if you are REALLY lucky an aio will last 6 yeaars but i do see your point im really only playinh devils advocate
Can't you wear gloves? hands have sweat and grease...
The GPU PCB has a protective coating that prevents shorts from dust, moisture etc
