City Violates Their Own Mowing Policy - Cutting Crazy Tall Grass with Lawn Care Juggernaut

- What is up lawn care nerds. If you like watching two fat guys mowing crazy tall grass you are in the right spot. I drove by this city easement and knew I had to mow it and test out the Hustler X-ONE. This grass was every bit of 5 ft tall grass. This is a city property that obviously has been neglected for awhile. It's funny to me because they like writing tickets to homeowners but here they are violating their own mowing policy.
With me in this video is none other than the Lawn Care Juggernaut. Me and Kevin have been friends for awhile now so it just made sense to finally work together. I had alot of fun spending the day with Kevin mowing crazy lawns.

One time us kids were at grandma's house. Her yard was exactly like that. When my mom came to pick me up, I hid in the grass until she left. Lol 😂 they couldn't find me cause the grass was so tall. I got in so much trouble

As a kid I used to play in a huge field with grass this high with about 10 other kids. We used to make rooms in it and play army! It was so great to be in a natural field of grass like this! The wind would make waves! Too bad we don’t have more places where this can just be left alone.
Yes we did this to but now that I’m not a kid anymore it’s scares me to death I have seen lots of snakes in those grassy field. But I have to say they were some fun times
we used to have a large field with tall grass, but there were all kinds of lovely wild flowers mixed with the grass.

I was hired to do something like this the other day but had a 52"deck country clipper mower instead of that fine Hustler. I had the deck raised as high as it could go but the grass was so heavy the belt popped off the pullies and she's all stretched out now lol

In my city, the street department is in charge of mowing city properties. If a city property is in violation, I report it to the code enforcement department. They are happy to contact their fellow city workers and get it mowed 👍🏻
That was my second job mowing city lots for the street department of a public works.
In our city it's real funny. Like you said violators are charged n city cut grass. But property that has been adjusted by the city for no tax paying is cut by hired lawn cutter at about $100 to $150 per yard depending on how big it is. Go figure that one

Start with Kavli blades, out of Austraila. His Beast blades will knock it over & chop it up, without choking the discharge chute. Blades are heavy duty, & keep their edge. Didn’t pack my deck, stayed sharp all season. My property started with 6 feet tall weeds, never choked up the deck. John Kavli has a Utube channel, with demonstrations. Blades were a little expensive, but whole lot cheaper than a bagger. Makes any brand mower twice as good. He even cut that mess, with a push mower, and bagged , mulched, & discharged with it! Saves time, gas, motor & spindles. Won’t cost you anything to look!

@@michaelmactavish1728 We do that all the time out here in the country. People run about a mile or so and bale it up. Others pick up where they left off and do the same. It's a win win. We get hay for our animals and the county saves money

When I see that tall grass I think of immediately cutting it with a farm tractor baling it and using it for feed on my animals
This is not hay its ornamental grasses. It has gone to seed so not much nutrition and will dry like straw. Good for my goats for bedding but thats about it.
My thought also was that they needed some farm machinery for harvesting and baling. But that the land was too small, was not flat, and had too many trees. Those trees need some work, too.
No farm animals here, but definitely thought of a hay field. Unbelievable how the mower handled that. Excellent job!

You are doing your part as part of said "City". So, the city owes you a refund on some of those local taxes aka send them your bill for equipment rental, gasoline, mileage for the trip plus towing expenses to move the equipment, and labor.

If you raise the dick all the way up it has a bad tendency to twist the grass around rather than cut it you end up with a bigger mess I do think he's cutting it too low
@@davidtowns7363 yes it does twist. But it also cuts some of the standing and doesn't bog your deck. It's much easier on your deck/blades/spindles/belt.

When I was a kid, my Dad had a pair of heavy steel push mowers that he got for free and repaired. I grew up mowing with those. Cutting thick grass over knee high with those was so much work! Couldn't imagine trying to cut grass like you found with a push mower... 😂

Did read your comment correctly that this was a city property? The old double standard going on here with the tickets and fines. Still the 2 of you did a great service to homeowner around this property. You knocked out an eyesore, got rid more than few pests I’m sure and helped their own property values. Since you mowed all the grass, it just got rid of the competition. Since it is probably rarely maintained, it will probably refill with weeds. The next time you get a call out it will probably be for a brush cutter not a mower.

I wish you gentlemen knew how much watching these films help people like me. We have arthritis so bad and our pain meds don’t work very well on bad days but watching you systematically do such a good job makes us concentrate on the mower and the lawn etc. takes our mind off our misery although I must admit I do a lot of praying for each of you so you don’t get hurt by machinery or snakes and animals so you go home to your families in one piece. Praises to the city council who let this grass grow and give these men a place to shoot a video. I think they deserve a pay raise for their thoughtfulness.
These grass cutting videos are oddly satisfying to watch. Those mowers are impressive that grass coulda been chopped down n bailed into hay it was so tall!
Great work mate! Our councils are much the same, I've been well known to go around and mow various parks near me lol. I run the same mowers as the council and dress mostly the same as their guys, but the main difference is that I actually bother to do the work and know how to drive the machine lol

I'm not Janet, but yes. If it's above a certain amount of inches (centimeters for you, I guess), then they put a flag on your lawn and you have a few days to cut it. If you don't cut it in that time they give you a fine. Sometimes they will come cut it themselves and send you a big bill. It's the towns way of keeping the town nice and making some money.
I live in a nursing home and love watching you guys! A lot of COVID cases so we can't leave our rooms in 2023. Love y'all!!!
Small sections is smart, first of all you don't know what's in there you may ruin your machinery doesn't really matter how it's cut as long as it gets cut and I believe you guys are doing a great job.

I work for a city council in the UK and we’re actually leaving some areas to grow wild intentionally as we have a sharp decline in insect including essential bees. Gardens however look better mowed.
1:56 Your main concern is a hole. The only protection you have for a hole (rollbar) is folded down. 😃

I really liked the way you cut that tall grass. I tackled some tall grass about 60 years ago a comparatively small patch to yours but I was using a rotary push mower. I quickly learned tall grass small bites. It was fun for me to conquer that grass.

Years ago, I used to be able to mow lawn, rake cut grass, if needed, bag it, do the weed eating, trim shrubs in the front, plant flats of flowers as well as do flower boxes and planters to hang from my patio all in one day! I always got compliments on how nice my yard looked all summer long! I made it look like a golf course every single mowing and took great care in making it look that way! Now that I cannot do that, I enjoy so much watching you guys do such beautiful jobs. You take care to do such detail with edging, etc. It makes me wish I could still do it but I kinda feel like I am as I watch you transform neglected yards into beautiful yards once more! When we cut overgrown properties we always cut in straight lines and first cuts with deck raised all the way up. This will help with the missed grass you see in your passes.

Dc Lawn service is correct ........grass this tall you mow with the deck in highest setting first not 2.5 inches.........you could hear the motor churning not good for your machine and not knowing what’s under the grass mowing at 2.5 inches for free is really insane for the chance of costing yourself money ......it’s ok being new these guys will get there
I thought he explained that when they set the mower higher the grass just layed down. Had to go 2.5 to get low enough to cut . He also stated that the unconventional mowing patters were because of filming .
I switched to Ferris zero turn and wow what a spectacular mower.........

If you want a beast of a mower my 61" Bad Boy Outlaw XP is one. I've got around 5 or 6 acres that gets like that. sometimes I use the Bad Boy and mow around the trees and bush hog the rest. I have cut all of it with the Bad Boy.

This is from an older guy that's worked on all mowers & sharpened the blades... mowing Wet grass is the quickest way to DULL your blades n always make sure Ur mower has room to blow out what Ur cutting! Worked for me for many years but everybody has an opinion & U know how that is! Good job as always n God Bless you for what you do!!! Lol 😁👍💜

For a Top Notch grass cutting company, one would think that you would know how to cut tall grass. First cut it with the deck up as high as it will go, then come back and recut it at 2.5-3" setting. It will mow easier and shred the grass better. Also avoid cutting with the discharge chute throwing grass into unmown area so it doesnt clog the deck .
Also less chance of damaging the deck and blade from a stump that wasn't ground down low enough.
Also mow four five feet ( however tall the grass is ) then back up the same distance and take bites of the grass not just knock it over and keep going

My sis and I used to mow for a real estate co in the 70s--- with a push mower. (NOT even self-propelling- lol.) She was the "lucky" one that caught all the snakes.. Good Times. Thanks for making this vid- its very relaxing.

I normally blow the grass on the road when I mow. My brother rides a bike and said something about me doing that once. I asked him which was more dangerous for a biker my throwing the grass on the road or the fact it is a gravel road? In the 40 years I've lived here there are only a few vehicles a day and I've never seen a bike. It's also a dead end road.

I tihink that grass actually looked better long - plus it was doing a good job keeping the weeds out. Now it's going to look brown and thin, and the weeds will move in in no time
If this is on the right of way for the highway/interstate that is nearby, then this tall grass may have been planted and left alone on purpose. I agree that it looked nicer au-natural.

Hey, try doing this Tom Sawyer style. Just create an Airbnb listing that lets you stay for free if you put in 4 hours cutting grass. Heck convince them its fun and stress relieving and make them pay you for the privilege of using you mighty lawn mower! Start a lawn mower festival and sell T-shirts!
