Pro mode: tap the top left of the screen on the pocket to access the settings FPV mode: is meant for experiential filming like on a ride at a theme park or riding in a car with a friend
Wow, the connection between motion blur and frame rate, and how they create the cinematic effect was totally new for me, thanks for this awesome video!
You get the point. Most people think a gimbal is only a alternativ stabilisation method. But the key advantage of a gimbal-cam is not stabilisation. The real advantages are the tracking features, motion control from the ground and the use on a boom-pole for jib- or crane shot with minimal setup-time using lightweight and cheap equipment.
I did the math awhile back based off of the numbers people were talking about and how much time they were putting it and it its frankly a minimum wage job. the money you make covers the time to organize/edit/upload/tag at best but not the time it took you to create the shots. So I don't know if things have changed since then, but I still believe that time is better spent on sales/production of your video business instead of looking for pocket change selling stock videos.
Question.....Anyone have a suggestion on how to best match the pocket to a sony a6300 picture profile? I hate color grading... would like to match them "in camera" or as close as I can get.
You mention capturing audio in windy environments. I have iPhone 7 Plus and just purchased an Osmo Mobile 2 when I ran across this video tutorial. Thanks
I use osmo for events and do stills with my Sony A7iii. Best combo when you are doing events and have no time to put camera on gimbal and rebalance esp if you use flash. So yeah can be used for making money.
I saw a comment that a reviewer at either Best Buy or Amazon said that one has to basically agree to give away a lot of privacy information by having no choice but to agree (to it) if one wants to get the camera setup. Also, it's a little bit of a turn off (though not necessarily a deal breaker) that after charging the batteries 400 times one then has to chuck it into the trash can. I do very much like the camera for the most part, incidentally.:-)
Excellent report here. Stock footage that is unique or difficult to get will set you apart...not recommending dangerous stuff - just places less traveled. Not everyone will hike the Grand Canyon, or through old growth forest. Or inner cities.
This video gave me a better perspective about the Osmo Pocket than all the other reviews that just bash on the weakness of the camera. Very different ways of thinking compared between pros and prosumers. Thanks Jeven!
I am interested in this camera, but it looks like lot of the time that there are focus issues. Focus hunting or out of focus shots when the camera is not focusing on your face. It appear with alot of youtube videos not just yours. What do you think about the focus of the osmo pocket?
Does it not have an iris control for light? I'd prefer to use that over shutter speed for light. Or maybe just the ND filters until the zebras go away, so the shutter can remain the same. Just curious.
@@JevenDovey Yes, I watched the video....really good and informative, just was curious about at 08:15 talking about the zebras and the shutter is raised to lower the zebras, where I normally use the iris to do that so I keep the same shutter. Or, I could choose the appropriate ND filter. Cheers! Great channel!
Hi Jeven Has any one else received scratching on the Osmo camera lens. Can you suggest any solutions to prevent scratching. After only minimal use 3 hours max I have lens scratching occurring, I have used freewell filters. I believe I was diligent in its use. Are there any solutions to prevent scratching occurring.
For the Pocket, I noticed that there's a lot of wide lens out there but none more "tele" lens. I guess that it's something that can't be done? I have Pocket 2, its ok but I would like the possibility to have tighter shots
Great video. Why do you put your teal colored light on the same side as your key light and the orange light on the darker side? Shouldn't teal go in the shadows?
You talk about mounting the Osmo Pocket on a pole and using the wifi module to transmit to your phone, but that is impossible. The wireless module can NOT be mounted. It has no way to be mounted without being modified by gluing something on. However there are a few wired options to do what you are talking about. First off you can plug in your phone to the bottom port using either usb-c to usb-c, usb-c to lightning or by buying a usb-c to usb-a adapter and plugging a normal lightning cable into it. The second method that would not take away the bottom port, so you can charge it at the same time also, would be to get a lightning or usb-c extension cable and use it to extend from the accessory port to your phone. I have used both methods and they have both worked but the extension from the accessory is nice since you can keep the pocket plugged into power if needed.
So with this djis limitations, would it not be better to have a GoPro with a gimbal attached? I’d purchase the dji if it didn’t have the limitations you’ve mentioned
Thank you for your inspiration, simple explanation that a "kindergarten" novice like myself gets stimulated about this passion for photography. I look forward to every video you put out.Bless You
I used it snowboarding last weekend but haven't had time to put together an edit yet. Unfortunately it was really wet and foggy conditions which caused problems getting focus. Other than that it worked pretty well. The moisture didn't affect its operation. It was a little cumbersome to pull out the phone if I wanted to change settings. I wish there was a way to make quickly accessible presets that could be recalled from the device. The small buttons were a bit difficult to operate with gloves but still usable. Footage was nice and smooth in follow and tilt lock modes and the tighter lens angle makes a much better shot than the gopro imo. I would still like option to use it on a backpack, helmet, and pole mount to gain more versatility. I also say that some sort of ND filter is a must. I used the Freewell NDPL 16 and 32 most of the time.
Hey Jeven, DJI's last firmware makes it possible to reach Pro mode on the Osmo Pocket and turn on/off PRO mode directly. Also allows you to change AFC/AFS. Check it out if you have not done so.
Jeven Dovey Ok so I live in Chicago and have lots of footage of downtown, time lapse of different places , My question can I sell those clips with buildings and land marks like navy pier ? Hope you can answer this one, great tips and content.
This might be a silly question, but can you still use footage in your vlogs that you plan to sell for stock? Or will you get strange copyright issues ?

YEY!! Awesome video to show how good is that Dji Osmo Camera! I would definitely use it to make some live music videos. Not intrusive for the audience, not intimidating for musicians, and so tiny that I no longer would have any excuse not to film any of my concerts!
You can access pro setting without the app just push the PRO icon in the upper left. ;) But yes, no zebras or histogram given the small screen size. In my opinion, using the app (with a phone connected) defeats the whole purpose of the camera, to be small. Just my two cents...
Jeven, it would seem FPV mode is useful for literally pointing and shooting. In tilt lock mode, it's next to impossible to move the focus (objective, not image focus) especially if you're trying to shoot something not on the horizon.
of course he is not answering this question because its just clickbait to get views on youtube. ur are earning nearly nothing with stock footage. trust me

When were the most recent three times you sold stock footage that were recorded with your osmoPocket, and what were each of their prices?
ND filters is used to achieve lower F number, not to get slower shutter speed because aperture is more important then shutter speed (in video)
Wow thanks for this informative video! 👌🏼
How does it compare to the iPhone video
What about the mobile 2? Is there i way i can make money on it? Is it better to just get the pocket and sell footage to make up for the difference?

You can use the Pro mode without the smartphone.
You only must klick on the camera in the left corner. Then you can change the pro Settings
This video was made before the update that allow you to use direct from osmos before that update u cant.

One thing to mind is that these small filters do tend to scratch the front glass a bit.
I'm not sure if this is something that they changed after this video was made but you can edit pro settings on the camera itself...
@9:14 why just get a long cord to attach from dji pocket to phone when using on a pole!
