I'm thinking about getting osmo pocket to make automotive tutorials. I often shoot car interior with mid/low light conditions and now I'm wondering if osmo will focus correctly... Anyway, thanks for the review!
mr-fix, thank you for the comment. I am not that sure the Osmo pocket will be the best solution for that purpose; You can see that the indoor footage is a little grainy, and that is based on a room which is with a lot of light. Meaning that with cars, where the interior is usually darker, and there will be a lot of shadows, the footage may have even more noise. Also, the viewing angle is quite narrow, so it may give you the feeling of lack of space. For shooting car interior - it seems to be a good idea to consider something with wider-angle of view, like an action camera, or a camera with a wider lens. Like the Panasonic lx100 (as far as I remember it goes as wide as 12mm which is not that bad). Optimally - if the quality is satisfactory for you - something that is gopro-like - it will show much more from the internal space and you will not be concerned about the autofocusing issues, as most action cameras have fixed focus.
Probably one of the better reviews I have seen of the Pocket. I just purchased one and hope one of these days I can travel and use it to it's fullest potential. Bulgaria looks like a one of the places I want to go.
Thanks Steve, very kind words! I believe you will like a lot the Pocket. After such a ling time my battery has degraded a little, but it is still good for 40 minutes of shooting; And the device has really good footage on bright days.
Thank you for the video. Can I ask a question regarding the Osmo Pocket recording long videos - which I assume you have done? My Osmo Pocket is splitting videos at at 4 Gb (which is 5mins 26 sec for a 4K 30s). This is with a 64Gb card formatted at exFAT. The card is a Sandisk Ultra Class 10 card - maybe that is the problem, does it need a U3? Whilst I can join them, using Premiere Pro or anything else, you see that it actually loses sub seconds at the end of 1 track, and the start of the next. This is unacceptable in general, but definitely completely unacceptable when filming music/piano videos as it is extremely obvious. Screenshot of Premiere Pro where the join is made: www.dropbox.com/s/egoqic3hytynmpu/Osmo%20Splitting%20Sound%20Problem.jpg?dl=0
Cole, looks like this is standard behavior of the Osmo Pocket and this is indeed very sad - many cameras have no limitations with exFAT :( I have seen similar discussion in DJI forums. Most likely the best thing you could do is to get in touch with their support, so that someone records a bug and someone eventually fixes it.
@@TechMishka thank you for the reply. Yes, I have contacted support but they have said they are not aware of the issue. Just to be clear I am fine with the splitting (although I rather it does not split) but the problem is the short 1-2 frames of lost audio at the end of the video before each split. That is causing the split part to skip a bit of audio when joined! Thanks again for a great video
My question is this in a couple years when that battery just stops holding a charge altogether with the 400 cycle charges that they are saying it has what then? Is there a replaceable battery do you have to send it in to get the battery replaced will it even be worth it at that point you just throw it away and buy another one?
A question.... can you hold this upside down and have it film, like the larger gimbals? Like, how did you shoot that clip of the person with the boots on....hmmm

Hi! great video! Do you know if we can lock the Exposure on the Osmo Pocket (without connection to the smartphone app)? Such that when we move from place to place, the exposure doesn't change and look amateurish? Would appreciate some help. Thanks!
Yes, you can do that. there's an option to activate the pro mode from the settings - and you can control shutter speed and iso. Very useful if you shoot with filters.
Can you adjust the focus manually by tapping on the screen where you want it to focus? I would mostly like to use it for vlogging, but if it will not focus on my face most of the time it is useless...
Would anyone recommend this for someone who's had a stroke and only has one usable arm/hand? My Dad lost the ability in his right arm and his DSLR is setup for right-handed users, not to mention very heavy. While I know this doesn't have the same optical zoom properties as a DSLR, would this be good for someone who'd just be happy being able to take pictures again?
Thanks for the helpful review, we've been filming with a gopro for a few years, so interesting to contemplate the pro's and cons. Think the gopro just has it but the osmo size is quite seductive.
beginner's question in video. do you think that this could replace the purchase of a device like a sony a6300 (if we put aside the fact that there is no interchangeable lens) just in video quality?
Not beginner question at all! 😎 Well - the sensor is much smaller - and I have intentionally shot the studio part with it - you can notice the amount of noise. In low light conditions - not at all. On a bright day - yes, it can be very good. You won't be able to get the same bokeh, but it will do the job right. And the bitrate in 4K is unbelievable.
It looks excellent street/vacation filming gear. It may be easily place in a backpack pocket. Thanks for your review. It was very helpful. The only disappointing aspect is the lack of small tripod or an equivalent accessory.
I use the magnetic filter and while they are great you can defiantly lose them if the camera get knocked over or the front gets bumped. Lost 2 in the snow recently.
I was really close to throw the Osmo Pocket into the trashbin, as I always did not get sharp footage when filming myself. I was worried the root cause is the near-field ability of the camera, but you made it clear, it's the Auto-Focus! So I guess, I need to use the Camera always in combination with my phone in order to be able to define the focus. I'm afraid DJI does not want to release new firmware with a perfect auto focus. Btw: Hyperlapse on a sailing boats will cause the Gimbal to de-function, as I guess it's too much movement. Thanks for the review!
Hey Juergen, great comment! One thing you can try is using the Single Autofocus, instead of "continuous"; If you are flogging - tap on your face before the start of the recording and maintain the distance. Works like charm most of the times.
Hi Tech4All, We are new travel vloggers and we are planning to buy camera but confused between Go Pro 7 or Dji Osmo Pocket? Any suggestions would be much appreciated 👍
Hey, good luck with your vlog, and may you create tons of great content. Both are great, and both of them have awesome features. GoPro is designed for action - so if you plan diving, filming in areas where you may need water-resistant device - it is brilliant. Osmo Pocket is more cinematic. Needs some time to get used to; With my kind of shooting I rely on the GoPro more often.
really like the review, thanks for sharing your experience of using the camera. i'm planing to get one for my upcoming trips to korea and the states, i own a sony x3000r but i think the fact that the monitor does not attach to the camera itself really bothers me, and the battery runs out super quick. How long can the osmo battery run for? and is the auto-focus function really that bad? i know the tracking might take some time, but seems still acceptable to me.
The tracking is actually better than the auto-focus. I think you will like the Osmo Pocket - quite a nice device. Battery life is lovely - I'd say better than on a GoPro.
You are the guy let me make the decision to buy the pocket and to be my v blog main device. Thanks bro you did a very good job and good to see you again when the pocket 2 release in the future
Great video, thanks! So, I am going to a trade show. There will be lots of noise, flashing lights, etc, all indoors. What accessories do you recommend to use to record interviews? What about filters?
Easiest way is to use a shotgun mic - like the videomicro from Rode - point to the person speaking and it will get the sound primarily from there. You may find accessories that will allow you to connect it. Note that you need to get DJIs proprietary microphone adapter; As for filters - if you haven't used filters before, you will be better off them. If the exhibition is indoors, then light will be fine and won't need filters that much.
I must wear reading glasses. The osmo screen is too small to really see clearly. Connecting to a phone works well. The tiny format is great, but sometimes you need a larger monitor and access to control features. I use the PgyTech Osmo and phone holder with considerable ease.
I also regret the display is so small. In fact they could have easily made it larger and still keep the "pocket"-brand. And I am very reluctant to use the phone for a screen, as it really makes the whole concept of portability going away.
@@TechMishka Exactly, it is hard to check if the image is in focus on the Osmo Pocket. I am thinking of selling it and other stuff and get the GoPro Hero 8 Black that is on sale with additional batteries. I feel I always carry a camera, and I have the Pixel 3a phone. The Pocket is a great idea, but the screen is way too small and affects usability. I do not like that the battery is non replaceable.
Oh, there are many different options. But you need to buy the DJI's proprietary connector if you want to connect it to the Osmo Pocket. I Like a lot the a.lav microphone by Aputure (no longer produced); Rode have a lot of great vlogger mics.
@@TechMishka You showed an external (Lavalier) mike working in the video. Where did you get that from. As yet no-one has shown a working non-original converter and DJI haven't released theirs yet.
The official audio adapter is not released yet, neither does the current 1.4 firmware support external audio. Chinese New Year holidays are finished, it shouldn't be long for that release, some official prototype adapters and firmware have been seen around on TH-cam, I don't remember the channel unfortunately.
This is a rather interesting review, but I still haven't decided what is better for me :) please guys, tell me which is better to buy DJI Osmo Pocket or GoPro 7 black?
Nice review! What light did you use to record your narrative? Your face is not quite tack sharp, whilst the signs in the background are. I'm thinking that it's motion blur instead of an autofocus issue, since I can also see some noise in the skin of your face. So I'm kind of hoping that you shot this in low light or with an ND filter at a slow shutter speed. If not, I'm not going to buy the Osmo Pocket since my smartphones are much sharper in 4K.
The light was a mixture between natural daylight and some additional studio lighting but overall the room was bright. It was recorded on purpose with the Osmo Pocket, and I have used no filters, and the setting were set to Auto. Most likely it picked higher ISO and therefore the noise is better visible. But I also was disappointed to see the background much sharper, although the face tracking was actually working. Likely this will get better in time with new firmware, but the noise and grain - likely to stay 🧐
Any kind of 4K is tough to edit. Even high performance video card like Nvidia 1050 won't easily handle editing 4K. So using a mobile phone won't do the job.
Currently - none. I believe the external mic functionality is disabled on a firmware level. Hopefully DJI will announce and release it in the coming weeks.
Thanks Dave! The more I use it, the better the results are getting; The bitrate is quite good, and I am surprised how good the video is for color grading afterwards - really amazing! Especially after they enabled the D-Cinelike color mode; If I use AFS (autofocus-single) and maintain the distance to the object - works good so far; But - yeah - maybe it still needs some time to become the excellent device it is supposed to be.
Ok, what about osmo pocket’s mic adapter? Not only DJI charges you a premium for what is a cheap piece of plastic and makes it impossible to use a third party equivalent adapter but, at least outside of the USA this item is impossible to find. I even managed to buy it from a local reseller, I am in the UK, to be told the day before delivery (a good three weeks after I ordered it) that it was out of stock and would not be back in stock for another month at least. Furthermore, two-three days later, I received a stock reminder by DJI (as I had registered with their service before finding out that a UK reseller had one in stock) that the item was back in stock. Nevertheless, when I tried to buy it from their store (I received the reminder at 11.30pm and I saw the email only two hours later when I tried to buy it from their online store) I could not buy it and customer service told me that it was out of stock and tried to convince me to buy it from an American resellers for close to double its price (plus possible import tax by UK customs).
Great review. I will add that there is a single useful feature that is missing on the Pocket - The user option to add a date/time/location stamp on the recorded video (like many Chinese GoPro copycats offer, but not GoPro, Sony, or DJI). This option would greatly add usability when filming documentaries and vlogs when you want to keep that data available on display, if desired. The TimeStamp smartphone camera app is a perfect example of how this can be done
Timelapse is the most basic one - the camera is in still condition, and captures a frame every few seconds (usually choices are between 1 second, 2 seconds, 3 seconds, etc). Hyperlapse - same thing, but you move the camera with you - like recording a timelapse while you are walking. Motionlapse is a mode initiated by the camera - it is another variation of timelapse, where the gimbal slowly turns the lens to a certain degree.
Yup, pancharevo lake it was. If you haven't bought it yet - hang on for a while - there are a few new models coming out, and hopefully a new Pocket device.
please tell me where did you find that 5$ 3d printed holder for a tripod :O I got duped by ali express last time receiving something completely wrong/fake ad
Hey.... Thanks for the review..... As a begginer in video and photography I was planning to get a dslr for Professional quality but now I am confused with osmo.... Please give an opinion..... Please How do we change the lense and get the effect of chamgimg lenses here?
There is no lens changing - you can only change filters that get magnetically attached on the front. FOr beginner photography and videography it is a fantastic device.
Good video, I got mine yesterday with the DJI Wireless Module. It's excellent and enables full remote control of the OP from my android tablet, it's a must-have accessory in my opinion, especially if you have an Android phone/tablet with microUSB port. You can also charge the OP when using this 'base' so long time/motion lapse is possible.
Ok almost 10 months later how is it? I have been filming on my cell phone and don't really want a big cell phone gimble. I need something though because it is hard to keep a cell phone steady. I also don't like standing out in a crowd or drawing attention to myself. So I have been thinking this is a great little camera for filming car shows, or just walking, biking and filming footage. So how are your impressions as more time has passed? Has updates taken care of issues and so on? I just feel for me this camera gives me a better camera than my cell phone, and it is stabilized better, and compact. All things I would be interested in. I also saw you can make it film up too? So you can get unique upward facing footage of tall buildings and such?
Hey, I like a lot how specific your questions are, and looks like I can give answers to most of them. - with such a small gimbal it takes a lot of practicing to make the footage steady; Because while it compensates for the three axis - it cannot compensate for going up and down and it is difficult to film closer small objects. This is why cinema gimbals are huge and have counterweights. But in time you will get better - it is indeed very discrete and small - and that makes it great - in the last weeks I use it much more often - and the fact you can fix the focus is awesome. I prefer it sometimes over actioncamera because of that and because of the non-distorted footage - lens filters are extremely easy to mount - and this is a superb option. Especially when shooting outdoors - you can control a lot of things manually - like shutter speed. Very useful is choosing shutter speed manually and setting the ISO to auto - this gives a lot of freedom and cinematic look - colors are great - and there's a lot of room for post-production, especially in d-cinelike - it totally is better than a smartphone, if you want to do some post-processing. And having no EIS is great when shooting at night. So - yeah - I like it a lot - a great tool, especially if you look for not too-pro-footage which can be well optimized in post production.
Oh - and yeah - you can shoot the buildings as you mention - I use the same feature quite often too, when filming some of the gadgets - like scooters. Take a look at this shot - it is taken with the Osmo Pocket th-cam.com/video/pfcFkqkfkBk/w-d-xo.html
@@TechMishka thanks for all the info! Thanks for getting back to me, I appreaciate it Sounds like for it's price it does a pretty good job. I think I am going to get one of these. This is definitely better than a cell phone! LOL
Nilesh, right now I will strongly recommend to check the Osmo Action. Based on a week using it - it is delightful. Also - the Hero 7 Black is now more affordable than ever 😎
Shutter speed problem been mentioned in an other review, the problem been fixed with the same ND filter you bought. I hate ALL Osmo Pocker reviews, since they don't talking about battery time and do not telling, that there IS AN OPTION to charge pocket until use. DJI recommend to fully charge the battery before, but YOU CAN DO IT. Why do don't reflect on this one? Battery life is the most important by use and it's have a built-in one, which means, if there is no option like this, than you could buy a second camera just because of JUICE. The charging time is 73 Minutes. I have an eye from video clip maker, so I going to be fine with 140 Mintues on 1080p. But what if I want 4k? And here again: for me, who not going to record my whole travel, maybe it's even enough. But always good to know, what, if not. The USB-C connector is promising! With a better power bank, you are good to go. But alltogother, I just prefer to be free and exchange sometimes my flat one with a fully charged. Old generation been able to do that. I'm VERY confused to sell my Pro set, WITH focus wheel, external mic (without extra acc.), bigger sensor, option to attach to car, to exchange lens, to zoom with, to have a bigger depth of field and the ability to shoot in dark, with way higher ISO, Pocket get noisy easily.
True that - the charging feature is great, and something we don't have with the GoPro. It is subjective to say about battery life, as almost noone will press the record button and leave the cam for an hour. It is more about frequent starts and stops. Quite a nice and helpful opinion, thank you very much!
My Pocket will no longer charge. Any fixes? It is not dead yet (70% battery level) but will not recharge. I have tried new cables and chargers but no luck. Also, videos are sharp but photos are soft focus.

If you have the patience to do a lot of post-production and shoot in bright days - then yeah.
Long videos come recorded in one file or it will be splited every 15 minutes?
The video length depends not on the camera, but on the card and file system. Fat32's limitation is 4GB.
Hello there. I have a question. Is this device waterproof? I mean can we use it uder water and how much it can stand under water?(less 5m or more)
It is not; There is a waterproof case however, so you can get one.
I feels like contrast and brightness is bit low on vidoes looks like. Is right. How about action pro 8. Which is better device.
You mean GoPro Hero 8? Both are great; Major difference is that the Osmo Pocket can focus, and achieve shallow depth of field.
Does it have the ability to flip footage vertically eg. filming using the DJI upside down
Yes, that feature is supported.
Is there really external mic suppport on the osmo pocket? How? Which port? I dont see external mic port anywhere.
It will work via the Type C port at the bottom, however is not yet enabled via the firmware.
@@TechMishka ahh okay.. so we need to have another wait 😄

Osmo Pocket is more cinematic. Needs some time to get used to;
With my kind of shooting I rely on the GoPro more often.
@@TechMishka awesome mate.. thanks for suggesting.
is it waterproof
Not without a case.
really like the review, thanks for sharing your experience of using the camera. i'm planing to get one for my upcoming trips to korea and the states, i own a sony x3000r but i think the fact that the monitor does not attach to the camera itself really bothers me, and the battery runs out super quick.
Tech4All thank you so much for your reply!
@@iamwingxd Most welcome!
You are the guy let me make the decision to buy the pocket and to be my v blog main device. Thanks bro you did a very good job and good to see you again when the pocket 2 release in the future
Oh, I will keep this in mind and totally await to see you once there is a Pocket 2 review! 🙃🙃
Tech4All I will, and your videos are awesome. See you then.
Do u think it Good camera including microphone and headphones 🎧
It is a great camera. For external mic - you need to purchase extra adapter though.
@@TechMishka what it's different between DJI osmo and Canon M50 ii
Great video, thanks! So, I am going to a trade show. There will be lots of noise, flashing lights, etc, all indoors. What accessories do you recommend to use to record interviews? What about filters?
Easiest way is to use a shotgun mic - like the videomicro from Rode - point to the person speaking and it will get the sound primarily from there.
You may find accessories that will allow you to connect it. Note that you need to get DJIs proprietary microphone adapter;
As for filters - if you haven't used filters before, you will be better off them. If the exhibition is indoors, then light will be fine and won't need filters that much.
The best review so far. Realtalk. Thanks! :)
Wow, thank you so much for that kind comment! 👍😎
@@TechMishka Cheers. Getting my DJI Osmo Pocket tomorrow.
@@stefpix all batteries are replaceable . Probably not hard to swap out the one inside the osmo
you came to sofia to do this review?
Yeah - I often do that 😏👍
What mic do you use for better audio with this product?
Oh, there are many different options. But you need to buy the DJI's proprietary connector if you want to connect it to the Osmo Pocket.
I Like a lot the a.lav microphone by Aputure (no longer produced); Rode have a lot of great vlogger mics.
Where did you get a microphone adapter from?! Not out in the UK yet.
The Begg Family Antics i want to know this too
Looks like the cable is not available to purchase also for my country yet. Hopefully DJI will officially announce it soon.
@@StirfriedGerman I know that but @Tech4All showed a working Lavaliere Mike in this episode, but did very little about it.
What's about the voice recording Michael, which microphone did you use?
Most often I use a lavalier microphone - the good old a.Lav.
This is a rather interesting review, but I still haven't decided what is better for me :) please guys, tell me which is better to buy DJI Osmo Pocket or GoPro 7 black?
If you are wondering which to choose between both - better wait for one more month until the Hero 8 is out. 😎
Tech4All Thank you!
Omso Pocket Needs QuickMotion Video Function (Pan & Tilt).
Example: Pinpoint A-B to pan or tilt.
Yeah, and also - to add something like time-warp. The hyperlapse videos shot with it look quite horrible.
Is it worth to buy in 2020...plan to get one..
Yeah, it is still worth the money. Some rumors about a new generation are flowing lately, but ... DJI - rather unpredictable.
Nice review. I'm one step closer from getting Osmo.
Osmo is good. Have you checked the new Sony action camera? It is also interesting, however twice more expensive.
What type of microphone you use please ?
Aputure A.Lav. It is no longer manufactured - replaced by v.Lav - which I do not recommend.
Where did you get the external mic that works with it? I've been waiting for their adapter to be available.
Thanks!
Used an adapter I had from before, and the Aputure A-lav mic. But almost any lav mic with 3.5mm or type-c jack should work.
Exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for. Thanks for the review.
Most welcome, Kat!👍
Hiya! Which device did you use to video edit a 4k30 resolution? Is it possible to use a mobile phone or does it require a good laptop?
Any kind of 4K is tough to edit. Even high performance video card like Nvidia 1050 won't easily handle editing 4K. So using a mobile phone won't do the job.
Great review, looking for a smaller version than my current setup of Sony 6300 and gimbal, what mic can you use on the osmo pocket???
Currently - none. I believe the external mic functionality is disabled on a firmware level. Hopefully DJI will announce and release it in the coming weeks.
Hi, question about the OP. While recording video, after a minute, the sound stops recording but the video is still recording. is this normal?
Not at all - the first thing you may try is to update the firmware. Also - try to switch the recording format - default is .mov, you can try with mp4.
I'm still not convinced about the Pocket but this is an excellent video about it. Cheers, Dave.
Thanks Dave!
The more I use it, the better the results are getting; The bitrate is quite good, and I am surprised how good the video is for color grading afterwards - really amazing! Especially after they enabled the D-Cinelike color mode; If I use AFS (autofocus-single) and maintain the distance to the object - works good so far;
But - yeah - maybe it still needs some time to become the excellent device it is supposed to be.
Can you add on microphone to the osmo pocket?
Yes, you can do that using the proprietary DJI microphone adapter which costs $30.
Tech4All could you drop down the link please?
Is it common that the device gets very hot? No one mentioned that?
It gets warm, but I never felt it getting hot.
I am planning to get one before spring break
Sounds like you are getting it for the best time of the year for filming 😇
Is it easy to use? I have a GoPro and I gave it to my son because it was difficult to use
Hmm, if the GoPro is difficult to use, this one may be even more difficult. Which generation of GoPro do you have?
I purchased pgytech nd filters for my osmo pocket and I can't wait to see the results...
They work really good - recently shot a video on a very bright day and the results were outstanding.
nice!! i’ll check that out...
Thanks for this excellent note! I truly hope this has been already requested to DJIs team - seems to be nothing difficult to add.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN TIMELAPSE, HYPERLAPSE AND MOTIONLAPSE?
Timelapse is the most basic one - the camera is in still condition, and captures a frame every few seconds (usually choices are between 1 second, 2 seconds, 3 seconds, etc).
Hyperlapse - same thing, but you move the camera with you - like recording a timelapse while you are walking.
Motionlapse is a mode initiated by the camera - it is another variation of timelapse, where the gimbal slowly turns the lens to a certain degree.
I saw pancharevo lake, nice work I wonder wheter to buy it :)
Yup, pancharevo lake it was. If you haven't bought it yet - hang on for a while - there are a few new models coming out, and hopefully a new Pocket device.
Great video and review, just picked one up and excited to use it.
Always a good time to buy one of these. COngratulations on the choice, and have fun using it!

Can we buy extra batteries for this? Can we charge using a Power Bank?
The battery is non-replaceable; And yes - you can charge it on the go using a power bank.
Can't get this to work with my Sony L1?? Any ideas?
I can't think of any reasons; Best thing is to try to get help from DJI's support - however that are not always that great.
Hey.... Thanks for the review..... As a begginer in video and photography I was planning to get a dslr for Professional quality but now I am confused with osmo.... Please give an opinion..... Please
How do we change the lense and get the effect of chamgimg lenses here?
There is no lens changing - you can only change filters that get magnetically attached on the front.
FOr beginner photography and videography it is a fantastic device.
Great review. Very useful.
Thanks Frederick!
So instede of gimbal, can I take this for tipical Indian weddings?
Sure - if lighting is good, you can get marvelous footage.
Hey, thank you so much about sharing this! Another accessory on the "to do"-list 😎
I hope you showed us how the video look with filters.
Sure - there are some video samples with filters. If you want more - I could upload some later this week.
@@TechMishka I think that is great! Thanks!

But in time you will get better
- it is indeed very discrete and small - and that makes it great
- in the last weeks I use it much more often - and the fact you can fix the focus is awesome. I prefer it sometimes over actioncamera because of that and because of the non-distorted footage
- lens filters are extremely easy to mount - and this is a superb option. Especially when shooting outdoors
- you can control a lot of things manually - like shutter speed. Very useful is choosing shutter speed manually and setting the ISO to auto - this gives a lot of freedom and cinematic look
- colors are great - and there's a lot of room for post-production, especially in d-cinelike
- it totally is better than a smartphone, if you want to do some post-processing.

Amazing review, thank you so much ✨
Thanks a lot, Roman. Very kind of you to say that.
