And that's a trick question. Thanks to the status quo, Peter and Lois are doomed to be together no matter what because the status quo required them to be married. Come to think of it, Cleveland is the luckiest guy in the show. Unlike Peter and Joe, he was able to divorce Loretta early in the show and he later remarried with Donna Tubs. While Cleveland's new family had very little screentime, none of the Brown family seems to hate each other compared to everyone else. Cleveland was able to have a healthy family dynamic while his friends are in some type of hell.

A character trait I miss from Lois in the earlier seasons was when they aligned Lois with Peter's sense of humor. An example being "Hey Lois, diarrhea" joke, where she finds the word diarrhea as hilarious as Peter. These type of jokes were mainly done to subvert your expectations of Lois reaction to get a funny joke. But it's little moments like that makes Peter and Lois marriage feel more special then a standard sitcom marriage.
It was actually a key point of Lois's backstory where she fell in love with Peter, because he was himself compared to her rich friends and family. But naturally as the show went on they relied heavy on the mean spirited bad marriage/affair jokes. Personally I feel the marriages in the adult animated comedies work best, when the two characters actually enjoys their partner's eccentric personality traits. Example being Homer & Marge, Bob & Linda, and Stan & Francine.

Lois always had that more aggressive side to her character since the series' first season, but it was always complimented by her genuine love for her kids and and her husband. Nowadays, if her character isn't a hyper-aggressive nag, it's being labeled "Quahog's whore" with the amount of times she cheated on Peter.

Bob and Linda love each other to the extreme and wouldn't give each other up for anything. The closest they got was the seaplane episode, but Linda headbutts the guy and calls him an idiot for trying to get with her. They are inseparable C:

In the beginning of the show, Lois was seen as the glue that held the family together, the more responsible one and the voice of reason against Peter, even offering words of wisdom to the rest of the family, with the exception of Stewie. There were times that she snapped due to the pressure and you understood why she did so and you couldn't blame her, with Peter or the one responsible for this apologizing at the end of the episode.
Now she is just as, if not more, reckless than Peter.

I totally agree with you on this. Lois (and the entire Family Guy cast, really) were better when they were more grounded. They were a dysfunctional family who still loved each other at the end of the day. The humour came from watching Peter do something stupid while Lois had to deal with him. At the end of the episode, it would all come together and was occasionally even heartwarming.
Now we get a bunch of non-sequiturs about Peter/Lois/etc. just being terrible. The writers forgot that being mean isn't funny in and of itself. When Sterling Archer is a jerk, I don't laugh because he's being a jerk; I laugh because either A) He's going to succeed and make everyone mad that he was right while he gloats like a kid, or B) he's going to have it backfire terribly and face the consequences of his actions hilariously. Lois and Peter don't get that; they just get to be jerks with no real punchline.
Great stuff as usual, Mark. Thanks for the video.

One of my least favorite aspects of family guy is how completely unbearable the characters can be at times. Lois was one of the worst examples but I think Quagmire, Brian, or Peter may be a little worse in my opinion. She became an awful person toward the family and would lose her temper constantly, taking it out on them. Also the show has this bizarre mindset later on where they think sexualizing her, because she's a woman I guess, is meant to be like a joke or something but its never funny. That Simpsons jab is in my opinion, one of the most uncomfortable things I ever sat through.
Again though, her being awful to the family is just so infurating to watch. I get its the norm to have every character in an adult animated comedy to be an asshole, but seriously, all it does is ruin my investment cause every single character can just get away with anything. Those kind of jokes can be funny, but having each of the cast be a prick to accommodate for it all the time, just makes thing miserable.
Sorry for the tangent but I guess the subject of cartoon characters being irredeemable dickheads is a subject I'm very passionate about.

well, i like that. honestly i love the simpsons, but marge infuriates me since she resembles what a wife in an abusive relationship looks like.Having to rely in old memories of infatuation, out right saying "as long as you fill up the fuel tank i'm good with you homer", pretty clearly being there because of three accidents called children, and of course she loves them (i mean, that's what expected of her and very few media will go to the place of, what if she doesn't though? what if she is doing what she can and coping?) Being expected to always be grounded, sweet and collected, forgive his husband's several affairs, fix everything for everyone, and not even the episodes were she is suppossed to either get a vacation or just break under pressure give her real space or gratitude from others. Just a, "oh, but marge, we can't have you like this, the family doesn0t work without you" great awesome now go back to your miserable life as a mid class housewife. "haha nobody here can wipe their own ass, you gotta be an overworked housewife so funny and endearing". Let the wife beat the shit out their relatives for once, honestly.

You know after season four it seems that Meg is the one who took her mother’s place for being the most grounded one in the family. And thus is part of the reason why she’s treated so poorly. And in a sad way without Lois’s logical and heartfelt ways the abuse that Meg often suffers replaces Lois’s old caring ways as the family’s current day glue. I love that you use the same intro for each family guy character analysis. “When I was a young kid, when I was about ten I wanna say” gets me everytime.

Lois gives off the vibe of the type of mom who advertises MLMs on her Facebook page with the tags "#bossbabe #momtreprenuer 😂❤"

What's funny is here in Los Angeles, the local news channel had ran a pole for mother's Day asking who the best cartoon TV mom was. Needless to say I was in complete SHOCK what Lois Won.

    It's so tiring

i dont understand how the characters in modern day family guy think lois is hot, they always talk about how peter doesn't deserve lois meanwhile shes just...average looking and has the worst voice 💀

Lois is a tragic character. Someone who was a grounded voice of reason and balance turned into an overbearing and destructive parent. It's sad when the deliberately written, toxic, and controlling Alana is a stronger parent and wife than Lois.
