all aspects of Lois Griffin are just made 4 times better by Francine with the twist that she actually cares for her family (she's also funny enough to have chemistry with all the family members, but that can be said by everyone in the Smith family)
Was going to say Francine Smith is better and what you said there about American Dad sums up why I'm still able to tolerate the Smith family and the show American Dad itself.
@AnimeLover4Life3395 That's what I figure. I don't think American Dad is better and nor do I like it more than the other. Just that AD is the only one of the two shows I can still tolerate watching, so to speak.
It’s amazing that Francine is infinitely better written than Lois. When there’s a Francine episode It’s usually a good sign, when it’s a Lois episode you’re preparing to zone out. Also Francine is hotter 🏄♂️
My thoughts on this can be summed up as: Altough Francine Smith has canonically done much wose things, Id still trust her more to take care of my 1 year old niece than Lois.
I mean after all, he was a young kid, around 10 he wants to say, one of his favorite shows was the popular adult sitcom known as family guy. I think we all know that at this point, but it's nice seeing him make that clear in every Family Guy video.
One of my favorite early season episodes was the episode where Lois takes meg on spring break, it showed that she legitimately wanted to make meg happy but was flawed in the sense that she went way overboard with partying. It was a genuinely nice episodes in my opinion

But after a while Seth McFarland kept inserting himself into him where now he’s just a snobby alcoholic who just sees woman as objects. Just like Seth does internally.
I totally agree with you on this. Lois (and the entire Family Guy cast, really) were better when they were more grounded. They were a dysfunctional family who still loved each other at the end of the day. The humour came from watching Peter do something stupid while Lois had to deal with him. At the end of the episode, it would all come together and was occasionally even heartwarming. Now we get a bunch of non-sequiturs about Peter/Lois/etc. just being terrible. The writers forgot that being mean isn't funny in and of itself. When Sterling Archer is a jerk, I don't laugh because he's being a jerk; I laugh because either A) He's going to succeed and make everyone mad that he was right while he gloats like a kid, or B) he's going to have it backfire terribly and face the consequences of his actions hilariously. Lois and Peter don't get that; they just get to be jerks with no real punchline. Great stuff as usual, Mark. Thanks for the video.
After finally finishing Archer yesterday, I kept thinking about it a lot during the points of the video. Mallory is my prime example of an complete asshole who is genuinely funny and also loves her son to death
No matter how bad Lois became; Peter had the worst fate out of any character. He went from being a doofus with a heart of gold to the arguably the worst character of his own show.
Kinda like how they did Goku in dragon ball, he used to be ignorant but had a lot of common sense, now he’s an utter dingus obsessed with fighting to the point he puts his *world* on the line
One of my least favorite aspects of family guy is how completely unbearable the characters can be at times. Lois was one of the worst examples but I think Quagmire, Brian, or Peter may be a little worse in my opinion. She became an awful person toward the family and would lose her temper constantly, taking it out on them. Also the show has this bizarre mindset later on where they think sexualizing her, because she's a woman I guess, is meant to be like a joke or something but its never funny. That Simpsons jab is in my opinion, one of the most uncomfortable things I ever sat through. Again though, her being awful to the family is just so infurating to watch. I get its the norm to have every character in an adult animated comedy to be an asshole, but seriously, all it does is ruin my investment cause every single character can just get away with anything. Those kind of jokes can be funny, but having each of the cast be a prick to accommodate for it all the time, just makes thing miserable. Sorry for the tangent but I guess the subject of cartoon characters being irredeemable dickheads is a subject I'm very passionate about.
I always thought that meanness is not automatically funny. People who make shows like this think they can just say or do something mean and then expect the viewer to laugh.
@@roberttreacy8271It feels like funny=mean when the fun part is either when they're actually making a joke or when they get their just desserts in the end. Very few people watch Eric Cartman be an asshole because that in of itself is funny. They watch him because of the way he goes about it or when he suffers the consequences of his actions.
Yeah Quagmire was made into a hyper-rapist and has this weird feud with Brian, who himself is obnoxious and taking lots of screentime. It's said that Family Guy devolved into the Stewie & Brian show and Brian is clearly inferior to Stewie in every way.
@roberttreacy8271 Yup Peter is a jerk. Brian is a jerk. Lois is a jerk. Quagmire is a jerk. Stewie I guess you could also put in the category although funnily enough he became less of a jerk over time despite originally being intended to stand out as the "bad" one.

I can agree. I wish these shows would give us a reason to love these characters, but they don't. Dysfunctional can be done right, but frankly its a little overdone in adult animation shows. That being said, I don't think a lot of writers for these shows realize how funny loving families can be. I always loved how down bad Hal was for Lois, even tho it's not animation

I actually kinda admire quirky Lois. At least they’re not having Lois be nice and fake on the outside, but secretly awful, she’s just outwardly bitchy. It’s like they’re fully aware that she’s a bad person and they just embrace it and gave her some pretty fun episodes
The thing is though that’s not how she was portrayed in earlier seasons In fact all the family members have had drastic changes in how they started to how they are now and I think it’s been for the worst. Look at Peter,Brian,Stewie,Meg from earlier seasons and compare them to current
I am convinced the "writers" or manatees or whomever is in charge of the scripts of family guy, hate their mothers so much they pour all their anger into Lois and that's why she's become such a shrill, heartless, cruel, insufferable **** who abuses her family and terrorizes everyone else.
7:28 What he said about the Simpsons having clear guidelines and restrictions I feel could have been applied to Family Guy if the show didn't get cancelled twice and had more constancy with staff when it was being developed.
I think both Lois and Brian were the voice of reason for the show being able to pull the reigns when things got too far. Now, however, they too have become engrossed within the off the walls wacky shenanigans of the show so now there’s no one there to say no.
Watching this video again after Marks community post saying that a sponsor backed out after seeing the "hottest mom" intro They just couldn't handle the tomfoolery
i remember i saw someone say the difference between lois and peter and stan and francine is that lois and peter pretend they're good people and are worse off for it which makes them hard to watch and the humor fall flat but stan and francine know they're terrible selfish ppl which makes them (for the most part) fun to watch and fits the unhinged writing style. honestly most apt reading on the differences in the way the families in family guy and american dad are written.
I liked her breakdown in that Christmas episode. I think it's what a lot of moms feel like doing during the holidays. Source: my mom. She said the episode captured the frustrations really well.
Lois isn’t as bad as Brian, but I did really like her in older seasons. It was funny to watch her barely contain her wholesome mom facade under layers of (justified) frustration and rage. Lois going on a rampage because Meg couldn’t find paper towels will ALWAYS be better than Lois verbally and physically abusing her family
Same thing happened to Peter in the beginning of the show Peter was portrayed as a dumb guy who made mistakes but you could see just how much he cared for his family (Meg included) and always wanted to do right by them. Nowadays? They have dumbed him down and made him unbearable
9:38 - The reason why you probably find this new episode premise most original and interesting is because the core of that idea is stolen. The premise is almost completely ripped from King of Queens (S1, EP18 I think, not sure) where one of the characters (Arthur) goes through the exact same thing with becoming obsessed with becoming the employee of the month at a Coffee Shop he doesn't work at.
I honestly would be down to see them redo some modern episodes just to see how different things would be if the cast had their personalities in the classic episodes.
Lois is a tragic character. Someone who was a grounded voice of reason and balance turned into an overbearing and destructive parent. It's sad when the deliberately written, toxic, and controlling Alana is a stronger parent and wife than Lois.
You Should of titled this Video as: Lois Griffin: A Mother Without Morals Because Lois nowadays lacks restraint and discipline, along with her repeateded Emotional and Sometimes Physical Abuse of her family, Meg especially.
“You’re never going to get a Simpsons episode where Homer decks Marge in the jaw” When the creator of Simpsons played the Simpsons hit and run video game, the first thing he did was find the kick button and then -playing as Homer- kicked Marge across the town while laughing hysterically so it’s not out of the cards
That whole bed scene with them summarizes Peter and Lois’s whole relationship. Once married becaused they genuinely loved each other, but now are still married out of necessity for the kids so who cares about the infedelity because nothing matters in the show anymore. I legit need to see how these writings sessions go for each episode because there clearly a lot going on with the writers occasionally venting about the state of things in the show yet there still feels like there is a lot of missing context why it’s happening most of the time.
One of the main reasons I started loving family guy again was when I saw the Lois coffee shop episode, it felt like family guy finally found a new thing to try out with character centric episodes and I LOVED it

It’s weird that she went from sweet and caring, to becoming a sociopath, mean spirited and cruel to everyone. Including her own family. She could’ve been the voice of reasons to her family’s dilemma, but nope. They’re afraid that she’ll be too much like Marge Simpson, so decided to turn into this cruel and abusive person. This is the reason why this series is going down hill.
well, i like that. honestly i love the simpsons, but marge infuriates me since she resembles what a wife in an abusive relationship looks like.Having to rely in old memories of infatuation, out right saying "as long as you fill up the fuel tank i'm good with you homer", pretty clearly being there because of three accidents called children, and of course she loves them (i mean, that's what expected of her and very few media will go to the place of, what if she doesn't though? what if she is doing what she can and coping?) Being expected to always be grounded, sweet and collected, forgive his husband's several affairs, fix everything for everyone, and not even the episodes were she is suppossed to either get a vacation or just break under pressure give her real space or gratitude from others. Just a, "oh, but marge, we can't have you like this, the family doesn0t work without you" great awesome now go back to your miserable life as a mid class housewife. "haha nobody here can wipe their own ass, you gotta be an overworked housewife so funny and endearing". Let the wife beat the shit out their relatives for once, honestly.
marge infuriates me. she embodies so much of what's wrong with stay at home moms in mid income households, yet the show expects you to find it endearing, when really she is just coping and doing what she can. and i say this as someone whoi loves the simpsons, but luckily they don't focus too much on her (would get really depressing and frustrating really fast. there's a reason the episodes focused on her tend to do worse than the rest)
I hate how Lois always cheats on people we but Peter never does something about it. Lois always makes up some lame excuse, like, “I only did it because you think I’m old!” (Peter made a minor comment about her grey hair) Lois is a lot more unfaithful in modern family guy, and that’s weird because normally you’d expect Peter to be the explosive husband and Lois (in earlier seasons) to be the type of wife that accepts the chaos without doing anything about it. Note- I didn’t realised how wrong this sounded until now.
@@magical571 now that you’ve mentioned it. I guess you’re right. I didn’t really think it through when writing this. I was focusing too much on the negatives.
The thing for me about FG is that it WAS acclaimed. It came out in an era where shows were canceled, and then they died. They didn't come back. FG was so big. It was so impactful that not only did it come back, but it came back multiple times. Shows like firefly came out with one season and that was it, canceled gone forever. Teen Titans got 5 seasons amd a cliffhanger waiting on a 6th season that never came out. People have demanded that for years and got nothing. The fact FG came back is so importantly. because of this, they Dare not risk cancelling it again lest it suddenly becomes popular again. My most hater moment for lois is when she becomes an anti vaxxer even though in another episode before she was trying to help a religous family that didnt believe in modern medicine.
You know after season four it seems that Meg is the one who took her mother’s place for being the most grounded one in the family. And thus is part of the reason why she’s treated so poorly. And in a sad way without Lois’s logical and heartfelt ways the abuse that Meg often suffers replaces Lois’s old caring ways as the family’s current day glue. If you really watch the show closely through-out the first six to seven seasons that unfortunately shows.
The reason for this was because the writers admitted they had issues with Meg's character as they didn't know how to write a teenage girl and would use her as a punching bag for jokes and abuse as a way to get back at her until it got old and annoying when fans wanted Meg to have her own voice and redemption which inevitably she did later on in the future seasons

all aspects of Lois Griffin are just made 4 times better by Francine with the twist that she actually cares for her family (she's also funny enough to have chemistry with all the family members, but that can be said by everyone in the Smith family)
Was going to say Francine Smith is better and what you said there about American Dad sums up why I'm still able to tolerate the Smith family and the show American Dad itself.
Somehow American Dad is just better after all this time. It does weird wacky humor better
@@somethingsuperbland8829 Precisely.
Its very obvious that Seth enjoys American Dad much more than Family Guy
@AnimeLover4Life3395 That's what I figure. I don't think American Dad is better and nor do I like it more than the other. Just that AD is the only one of the two shows I can still tolerate watching, so to speak.
It’s amazing that Francine is infinitely better written than Lois. When there’s a Francine episode It’s usually a good sign, when it’s a Lois episode you’re preparing to zone out.
Also Francine is hotter 🏄♂️
My thoughts on this can be summed up as:
Altough Francine Smith has canonically done much wose things, Id still trust her more to take care of my 1 year old niece than Lois.
I love how LS Mark uses the same intro for everytime he reviews a Family Guy character 😂😂
Im pretty sure it was just a gag for this video
I mean after all, he was a young kid, around 10 he wants to say, one of his favorite shows was the popular adult sitcom known as family guy. I think we all know that at this point, but it's nice seeing him make that clear in every Family Guy video.
I was kinda sad when he didn’t mention him “laughing, crying alongside them, rooting for them to succeed in whatever came their way”
@@bekfstman9841 but then… something changed…
Let’s not forget the Springtrap episode lol
One of my favorite early season episodes was the episode where Lois takes meg on spring break, it showed that she legitimately wanted to make meg happy but was flawed in the sense that she went way overboard with partying. It was a genuinely nice episodes in my opinion
@AquaBounce1010 Thanks sometimes when I'm quickly using auto fill or try to fix my grammar to quickly reply. I miss things like that & don't even realize it
@austin_bennett Your Welcome.
Family Guy has no "straight guy" any more. It used to be Lois, then it became Meg, and now they are both just like everyone else.
Brian was the straight guy early. Lois wasn't really a character at all smh
good. time to make someone else the "straight guy", stop it with linda marge louis etc.
@@TheMightofDabBrian used to be an actual character subverting expectations by being a pretty grounded character whilst also being a dog.
Francine Smith pulls off the whole “quirky weird mom” thing a lot better imo
Lois is just the writers forgetting Bonnie existed and wrote her with the same personality and vices
You can completely understand why Lois and Marge barely had any scenes together in the crossover
Y’all remember when Lois didn’t sound like a broken printer?
No
You remember when marge didn’t sound like she was getting her throat scratched constantly?
Still sounds better than Marge

@@Wizofmincraftoh now marge always sounded like that lmao
I think modern Family guy fell into this new theme, "everyone is just a different flavour of horrible person, point and laugh"
@@Peaches_Creme couldn’t have put it better myself
Eh. Which are you referring to?
Dang, a lot of GoAnimate videos suffer a similar problem but worse...
Personally I prefer “Quirky” Lois to “Mid-Life Crisis” Lois, just because I find her episodes during this era far more intriguing and less mean-spirited as a whole, but I can totally see where you’re coming from.
Yeah, the Lois episodes are actually good now, episodes like customer of the week are amazing
my favorite lois joke is the one where peter says something about diarrhea and lois starts laughing at it too. idk why but it's really funny in my eyes
Worse thing about Lois as mother is how she allows Peter to abuse Meg. Dude farts on her and #ShutUpMeg is a catchphrase now.
pretty realistic though, just saying lol. don't ever expect a parent in a disfunctional household to hold their partner accountable when they can just blame the kids and have them shut up. i don't know, i guess none of this stirs me up so much since it's pretty grounded in my opinion lol. this is exactly how this type of family would go downhill over time. Its not Just Peter and Lois that I hate I just hate parents in animation in general I'm so sick and tired of animation especially adult animation protraying families as dysfunctional it has honestly made me appreciate shows like Bob's Burgers, Amphibia, and The Owl House that protray loving, happy, and healthy family dynamics.
I can agree. I wish these shows would give us a reason to love these characters, but they don't. Dysfunctional can be done right, but frankly its a little overdone in adult animation shows. That being said, I don't think a lot of writers for these shows realize how funny loving families can be. I always loved how down bad Hal was for Lois, even tho it's not animation
king of the hill is a good example of a more realistic family, similarly with s1-s9 or s10 simpsons

I actually kinda admire quirky Lois. At least they’re not having Lois be nice and fake on the outside, but secretly awful, she’s just outwardly bitchy. It’s like they’re fully aware that she’s a bad person and they just embrace it and gave her some pretty fun episodes
The thing is though that’s not how she was portrayed in earlier seasons
In fact all the family members have had drastic changes in how they started to how they are now and I think it’s been for the worst.

Holy shit, that's so shameless 💀
I honestly would be down to see them redo some modern episodes just to see how different things would be if the cast had their personalities in the classic episodes.
Lois is a tragic character. Someone who was a grounded voice of reason and balance turned into an overbearing and destructive parent. It's sad when the deliberately written, toxic, and controlling Alana is a stronger parent and wife than Lois.

5:14 VOREEEEE?????
