Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I really enjoyed the video, I love all your wooden boats in their restoration stages reminds me of my family ditchburn
My favorite part of the restoration process is when the boat is flipped or rotate around onto his bottom still attached to the sling ropes it's a special feeling I can't explain it
Hi Mike, ...how do you calculate and mark out the "water line" along the hull in each Maritime Classics restoration? Does the water line also then match the placement and painted water stripe on the completed side of the hull? Or is the water stripe measured and marked during the boat's first launched and in the water once finished? Each video is so fun and informative! Thanks much -- looking forward and can't wait for Spring 2024.
Most of the time we use the old plank to mark out the waterline. We also check it with a laser level and then on the first launch. We don't always get it right and sometimes have to fix it later like this spring on the 1941 16' Hydroplane.
Note about the years on the plywood inner bottoms... My '53 sportsman also came with the plywood inner bottom. Same panel layout as the one you showed. Question about new planking... what species of wood and cuts (quartersawn?) are you using for topsides and decks on 50's Chris Craft utilities and runabouts?
We mostly use Phillipine mahogany just like they used when the boat was built. On the bottoms we try not to use the ribbon grain wood and save that for the deck and sides.
Great work Mike! I've got a 1959 Century Coronado that needs restoration if you know anyone who might be interested, there is a walk around video on my channel if you'd like to check it out. Keep up the beautiful work.
Another great video, thanks Mike.
Thanks for the tour, great projects.

Cool seeing this on my dinner break from staining the outside of the cabin on a '57 Scottiecraft Cabin cruiser!
Great video as usual, Mike! Great to see how the shop progresses throughout the year. Happy new year to you and your team!
Thank you for another Great Shop Tour. I am actually getting ready to start varnishing my wet bar & top of my bait box for my 38' Commander.
