    Thanks guys - appreciate you trying an unofficial MPG review of this truck. Your enthusiasm trying to pry the EPA mileage from Ford is appreciated. Please post the EPA mileage as soon as you can. I'm debating whether to wait for the 2017 over the 2016.

    Except for the 6 speed is tried and true, easier to work on, and more parts readily available if needed. 10 speed is great but needs more time

    good review fellas on the new 2nd Gen 3.5 ecoboost 10 speed F150. I wanted to hold on before recently purchasing my RAM 1500 ecodiesel, but based on your mix loop Test, this new setup averages maybe between 20-24 mpg at the most, not the gains I was expecting, specially since at the 10th gear, the rev is insanely low. on my ecodiesel I average 21 in town, and if I cruise below 65mph, a crazy real world number of 29 to 33!

      is there any transmission out yet with 9+ gears that doesn't break all the time or have constant problems? ZF 9 speed comes to mind and I have a good feeling this one will be similar. I believe they put smaller clutches in these high gear autos so they can fit them under cars. Meaning everything is fragile as hell. I think 8 gears is perfect, but the EPA doesnt think so.

    • @FoDaddy
      @FoDaddy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most blue collar guys I know make just as much, if not more than their white collar counterparts. They tend to have more "toys" (ATVs, bikes, etc.) and use a loaded F-250/350 diesel as their daily driver. With the truck that the current F-250/350 replaced (usually 7 or 8 years old) being demoted to farm/work truck status. Plumbers, contractors, electricians, mechanics, etc. all make very good money. I'm in I.T. myself and make enough to comfortably buy a 2016 Mustang GT (back in 2016), and complimented that with a new 2019 F-150 (4WD, 3.5L EB, XLT) at the end of the 2019 model year, paid for both in cash. Of course, I'm not married, have no kids, and my house is paid off as well. If I had a family to provide for, things would be different.

    • @GyroPyro121212
      @GyroPyro121212 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can still get a brand new F-150 4WD For $35k in 2021. If you need a larger cab or an upgraded engine price will go up accordingly. If you need leather and other more elegant creature comforts it will go up more. But under $40k for a brand new 4WD truck in this day and market environment is fairly reasonable.

    • @kylelmnop
      @kylelmnop 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      they have. the 2.7 and gen2 3.5 uses both port, and direct injection. the carbon build up is common in direct injection cars because
      the valves never see any fuel to clean them

    • @BBTthetank
      @BBTthetank 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Dude, you're comparing the 7.3 to a GAS engine that's half its size. 470 lb ft of low end torque is nothing to sneeze at.

    • @BBTthetank
      @BBTthetank 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Besides, a big ass diesel like that only making 10% more torque than that little gas v6 is pretty sad.

    • @Fordguy1997
      @Fordguy1997 8 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      +BBTthetank I think you misunderstood him. I interpreted him being shocked that a gas 6 cylinder in a light duty is approaching the torque of the legendary 7.3 PowerStroke of 15 years ago. Which is pretty wild to think about.

    • @BBTthetank
      @BBTthetank 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Fordguy1997 Yeah, you're probably right. I may have assumed that he was just another one of those young, 20-something year old diesel-or-nothing types and was comparing the new vs the old the other way around.

    • @BBTthetank
      @BBTthetank 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Fordguy1997 But yeah it is pretty wild to think how far trucks AND cars have come along. Who'd da thunk a half-ton with a v6 could safely handle over 12k lbs. Or a 1-ton (1-ton+ for the 450) towing 30k or more, muscle cars and 'family' sedans and soon SUV's with 700 hp, people no longer blown away about 500 hp, minivans with close to 300 hp, and small diesels in half-tons and compact trucks? Not to mention full size trucks getting close to 30 mpg. Imagine what it'll be like in the next 5-10 years.

      +Brad Taft turbo charged engines dont last ..much more complex many more parts to break..your pushing the engine itself much harder and generally need to replace turbos around 100k miles....good old iron block v8 is simple and if maintained will last...someone paying 65k for a truck will want it to last 200k miles and not 100k before you have to put several thousand into it to keep it working

      +billy heaton Actually, you won't. In real world conditions, these Ecoboost engines don't deliver the mileage advertised, returning mileage only similar to the N/A V8s they compete with, which don't have the complicated turbo Sh!t. This has been widely known throughout the automotive world for a while. Are you the last person to find this out?

    The U.S and Canada has more sheeps than New Zealand, my neighbor across the street is on his 3rd F-150 since '04, i'm still driving my reliable '03 Tundra, i guess that's why Ford sells so many F-150's cause they don't last, fleets get refreshed every couple of years hence why the huge sales numbers, '17 Ford 10 speed, '18 Ford 12 speed, 2020 Ford 15 speed 1000 hp and 2500 torque, 23,000 lb tow rating and 8000 lbs payload

    • @Sorensenator86
      @Sorensenator86 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, it's because they are big enthusiasts and buy a new one every 4 or 5 years just because, you're driving a 13 year old pick up truck that is in no way the same category or has the same capability as these new trucks. Good for you.

    • @guyproulx1660
      @guyproulx1660 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorensenator86 they buy a new one every 4 or 5 years because they know expensive repairs are just around the corner and their warranty ran out lol, my 13 year old pickup just last week pulled a 2012 Dodge 1500 out of an old logging road for 27 km "17 miles" with a blown transmission, not the first time i pull one back to town and i don't think it will be the last, my truck is a half ton, did you think i was comparing it to 3/4 and 1 ton trucks?

    • @Sorensenator86
      @Sorensenator86 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      guy proulx No of course not, but half tonnes now are rated to tow 12 to 13 thousand pounds now plus all the standard features are so much better. Part of it is warranty and worry about future repairs but mostly it comes down to having a new vehicle, it's a status thing.
      Here in Canada we have quite a few kiwi's and Aussie's here working in the construction industry and they say a half tonne over there costs over 100 thousand dollars because they have to import.

      +Austin Jordison The market wont allow it. They need people to buy more. Back in the day they built a reputation on toughness and durability, now its screens more gears speed and mpg. They could have and some did build twin turbo, 10 speed auto, and direct injection back in the 90's. However they didt last and still wont. This is all manufacturer not just ford.

      Ford owners found that drilling a hole in the bottom of the CAC allowed the accumulated liquids to blow out the hole, thus the stalling stopped as the engine was no longer ingesting moisture. Ford relocated the CAC in 2014 or thereabouts. More info can be found on F150 forums.
