    The one statue missing from this Figma line-up is the Atlas statue carrying the world on his back.

    the reason why it's popular is because it can be used as pose reference for artists and serves that purpose better than the classic wooden doll (more detailed anatomy and more articulation).

    It's the ultimate dummy for art students! Which is ten times better than the standard posable wooden figure that they sell. I'd buy one.

    Figma did their best so i think they deserve alot of credits for this figure. This is art and a well known statue all over the world. I never saw other toycompanies made the thinker like this. I know there aren't many art work figures out there exept for one figure and that's a leonardo davinci articulated action figure with his own official paintings,wich i own for a while now.i'm glad figma made this figure. Maybe i'm gonna buy this one too. Great figure,great review!

    I bought this guy and i gotta say it´s such a weird yet fascinating figure, classy and mysterious, not for your typical action figure collector. Already ordered the Venus and the David, they look great along the Takeya statue figures. Good review btw.

    I like that you're reviewing the non-anime / manga / comic imports. I have the Thinker and like it a lot (I like figures on the artsy side, anyway, like the Takeya Buddhist collection and Okimono Collection). I have two complaints 1) that the shoulder joint peg on the "action" torso snapped when I wasn't paying close enough attention to keeping the arm aligned with the hinge when I repositioned it. I was able to get Figma to send me a replacement, but Figma goofed and sent me the "seated" torso piece. So, now I have two functional seated torsos and one broken peg action torso. 2) Removing the neck piece from the head can be difficult enough to need a wrench. One neck piece for each head would have been convenient.
    Regardless, I like the Thinker, and am looking forward to the Leonardo DaVinci four-armed piece and the Michaelangelo David. The Venus de Milo looks fun, but also looks less poseable (her skirt piece looks as if it is not removable and would impede a lot of articulation).

    please tell me this was an expirament in 3d scanning. like the figma people comissioned a 3d scan of the original thinker sculpture and using apps like zbrush they basically "reconstructed" the lost articulation and essentially used their figma magic on a statue:D or something.
    how many figure and toy studios utilize 3d printing anyway?

  • @Meihuar2006
    @Meihuar2006 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh, ha, as for why the series exists, I think it makes for a fun gag bringing these statues to life as action figures. And, from an artsy side, the action figures are eclectic, unusual, and interesting to look at. I keep my Thinker on my computer desk beside the monitor. I also enjoyed using the "action" torso figure as an art model. Unfortunately, with my broken action torso, the seated torso is too limited to use for posing.
    EDIT: Also, the Japanese themselves seem to enjoy eccentric toys, and an series based on Western art turned into action stars seems like something the Japanese would find appealing.

    So basically a night at the museum figure? That's all I associate the thinker with lol very interesting choice of a character to make an action figure of since he really doesn't do anything besides think... I think a statue would work better. Great review!

    Great review Anthony!!! Although I had to explain to my fiancee why I almost fell,out of the chair laughing. She wouldn't except cash and prizes as an answer without an explanation. To her credit she laughed as much as I did. I'm definitely not the audience for these figures and I'd never buy one but I can't help but feel that there's a missed opportunity for at least one more accessorie. They should of made the package removable and had a fully loaded version to swap on LOL. Thanks for the review and keep up the great work.

  • @CCscorsese
    @CCscorsese 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was gonna say, if this was just a static figure in his standard sitting pose, I'd say he probably wasn't worth it (why not just get a statue then). But since he comes with the extra pieces, I could see animators using these

  • @crackin2000
    @crackin2000 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    That is weird. But I can see a market for it. The original Rodin has his right elbow very awkwardly resting on his left knee. It creates alot of negative space in the sculpture in person but pictures of it makes it look odd like that figure as its not ment to be seen smaller than life.

    Nice review as always. Interesting Figma line. I've always wondered why they made one of the Thinker (or any statue really) but hey, whatever. Could pit him against Figma Link, S.H. Mario, Figma Samus and have an odd SSB display. Lol

  • @steelspartanzero
    @steelspartanzero 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't... I don't understand why this exists. I mean, I get that Figma is apparently making money but the people buying this are on oddity. Why not just buy a small statue of "The Thinker" if you want one for your desk display? It fails as a figure because it's supposed to represent "The Thinker," which is a static piece of art. But then it also fails as a statue because of all the segmented parts and the fact that you can literally buy a small statue of said piece of art for less than the cost of this figure. Why, if you were interested in buying a piece of art would you not simply buy the actual work for less money? Completely perplexing.

    • @AnthonysCustoms
      @AnthonysCustoms  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +steelspartanzero i guess it's just the appeal of having the thinker come to life in new poses.

    I really dislike the rubber pieces on figures, especially when we are talking about body parts. I think its a poor design if you need to use flexible material to achieve proper articulation. I personally lvoe the idea of the line and would buy some of them, but I do not trust rubbery plastic. I fear it will deteriorate with years.

      +AnthonysCustoms As other people have said though, it really just ends up being kind of a blank body to have and pose around. I love the Tabletop subline, as it is something unique and interesting, amidst the sea of anime schoolgirls, which is what Figma is 90% of the time.
      Bandai is usually doing way cooler stuff with the Figuarts line, so to see something unique and novel come out of the Figma line is appreciated and refreshing. They're great as figures, because they just give you the option of doing more beyond their standard initial pose/whatever.
