I think it's worth mentioning the Bloodstone Emperor of The Great Empire of the Dawn (modern Yi-Ti) discovering a black stone that fell from the sky, and the long night beginning relatively closely. It's possible the deep ones & to a lesser extent, the others, are some form of extraterrestrial life.
You got to wounder how the ancient world would have looked like with Giants and... Fish men.
I’m hoping one of the prequel series will go back to that time. Maybe, the First Men left Essos, because they were running from them, and they were looking for any lands not inhabited/ruled by them.

Also, Cthulhu himself is referenced in Fir and Blood by the guy (I’m bad with names) that sailed into the sunset sea and said his ships were attacked by a Kraken with man arms.
I’d say the ASOIAF “Cthulhu” is the drowned god itself. But I’m sure this will be left eternally ambiguous unless the property gets tossed around to other writers after GRRRM passes through this mortal coil.

I think the Deep Ones will be left forever vague and unexplored. HBO has a need to fill in the blanks that I don't think GRRM shares; sometimes it's more intriguing to let the imagination wander. Like in the movie Alien, it was everything I didn't see that scared the crap out of me.
Anyone unfamiliar with Lovecraft can read GRRM doing a great Lovecraft impersonation in Fire and Blood with the story of Aerea Targaryen and the Firewyrms. It’s my favorite excerpt of the book thus far and it is spot on Lovecraft. I say “impersonation” not as an insult. This specific section is dead on with the prose and format, especially when it transitions to the Maester’s direct account of the story. I highly recommend.

I don't understand what the point of the Drowned God religion is. There's apparently no afterlife, intervention,magic/abilities, or practices. People occasionally get drowned as a sacrifice just because.
Lovecraft was horror scifi. There is almost no supernatural elements to his stories, except a couple like the outsider.

The got show has left a lot of the fantastical aspects of asoiaf books out, pretty dissapointing to me.
I always thought Nimble Dick was referring to the Crannog men when he was talking about squishers....This makes more sense.

K'Dath sounds very close to 'Kadath' a neighbour city of Sarnath (The Doom that came to Sarnath, by HP Lovecraft)

A theroy i have heard and i agree with is that the Great Other that Melisandre has talked about who is the enemey of the Red God is connected to or is the Drowned God. In fact my guess is that the Great Other/The Drowned God is going to be a Lovecraftain horror.

How can you make a video dedicated to the Deep Ones and not mention the possible connection between them and the Old Ones of Leng? They're also Lovecraftian, having first been mentioned in The Call of Cthulhu. George even kept the same name. Could the Old Ones and the Deep Ones be kin to each other?
If the merlings had something to do with the construction of all of the fused Blackstone structures in the world why did they go back into the water
Perhaps the sea-level was higher and they built underwater only to watch as the sea lowered, leaving their constructions in the air. a large build-up of ice could lower the sea levels, perhaps from the first long night.
