    Rent should NOT be so expensive in a third world country. Only to have problems with electrical power, unreliable expensive internet, water problems, lack of restrooms, poorly managed garbage site and you want 1 to 3 years rent paid in advance. When the law says they can't ask for more than 6 months.. I can guarantee you there is a no refund policy.

      People's reasons for moving to developing countries are usually not about these negatives.
      There's usually a deeper meaning and reason for the move.
      Many move to develop and build and make an impact. That type of commitment is not for everyone. The ease of moving to Europe where the system is already easy like the U.S. Is what some people prefer. But know that racism exists in Europe too. It's just less violent than in America.

      Nancy Museve landlord's and landlady's usually ask that much because many Ghanaians don't have stable or reliable study income so it becomes a hustle renting month to month for landlord's. It's not right but it's a norm in Ghana.
      It's relatively cheap compared to US dollars however the challenge is coughing up 2-3 years rent in advance. You can find yourself a decent 1-3 bedroom apartment from $400 or more a month depending on the location.

      You can't control time. Everyone in the world has 24 hours each day. You either use it wisely or you waste it. Being late all the time is wasting the time we have.
      Nobody can control time. You manage the time you're given. If you could control it people would stop time, go back in time or go into the future.

      That’s not a good attitude to have towards time, and people. Time and people must. be respected not wasted and abused, that is one of the reasons why everything is so behind the eight ball over there, it’s because the people don’t respect time or the value of another person’s time. It’s high TIME you all learn to respect time, and that way you will respect other people’s time. Time waits on no man, time is of the essence, once a day is gone you can’t get it back, time wasted can never be regained, time is precious, use time wisely, etc...

    As an African American, to all of my Ghanaians let me say this.......We know you want to make Ghana and Africa period great, and as your African brothers & sisters in America we too want the same thing......But let's just be honest here.....If you're going to be able to compete in business "on the world stage", those 8 things she named in this video are ABSOLUTELY VITAL to doing just that!! Whitey and Mr. Lee (the Chinese) ain't gonna come invest heavily in your country when after visiting there you show up 2 hours late for the meeting they had scheduled with you, they can't check their e-mails cause there's no internet connection, they couldn't shower prior to the meeting cause there was no running water in their hotel, they can't shit cause the toilet's not working in your office building, there's a stench of garbage stinking up the entire block cause the garbage hasn't been picked up, and they're puking their guts out 7 days after they get back to New York City or Beijing cause they've been bitten by an infected mosquito and they now have to get treated for malaria before they take their final breath!! These are services and customs & practices we "take for granted" in the U.S., China, South Korea, Germany, London and other advanced countries. In your advanced countries there's no bigger sign of "disrespect" than for you to showup even 30 MINUTES LATE for a meeting!!!.......Showing up 2 hours late means you have no respect for who you're meeting with whatsoever!!!
    Ghana......and Africa period......you're gonna have to get your SHIT together before The West is going to invest heavily in you.

    • @Bludove360

      Have you been to Ghana? First of all, you can take Malaria pills as a preventive method while you're in Ghana. You just take one pill each morning with your breakfast and you're fine. Internet connection can be spotty in some areas, but it's not impossible to check your emails and handle your business with the use of MTN internet. If the water goes out, most hotels and upscale places (OSU, East Legon, etc) that cater to foreigners have water reservoirs and back up generators for power. You don't have to preach to Ghanaians about how to conduct themselves. Also, the goal for African nations, especially in West Africa, should be to decrease the amount of foreign aid and become self-sufficient, not look for the West to "invest heavily". You should really visit the country and see it for yourself, instead of relying on a video to tell you what's going on so you can judge.

      Ghana is a great place. These negatives I highlight become apparent when you move and live for extended periods of time. Most people share their holiday experience in 5-star hotels and going to several events and parties.
      Although these negatives I speak on are a reality, the more money you have and depending on what areas you live in, it's less of a frequent issue.
      Also this video was made about 2 years ago. Some issues have improved, like electricity...much less power cuts than before. Also I don't have as frequent of a problem with water going out.
      And now with the pandemic, the President has mandated to the Water and Electricity company to stop cutting people's supply when it's much needed and essential.

    • @IvyProsper
      @IvyProsper  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you live in Greater Accra you are more likely to have access, but the neighborhood you choose makes a difference. Many people who move to Ghana from places like the US, Canada, UK and Europe choose to live in areas like Cantoments, East Legon, Airport Residential, Legon, and Spintex. But even upscale/affluent neighborhoods like East Legon suffer from power cuts at times.
      Regarding water, many people who can afford it will have a water tank (called a polytank) as a backup for when the city pipes don't flow.
      These are issues that every developing country faces around the world. In Africa, South America and parts of South East Asia these are issues.

      Every developing country has its own issues. You won't find perfection. My advice is always to visit a country for a period of time to decide if you can even live there.
      I did this video a few years ago when the electricity issue was a serious problem in Ghana. The last couple of years it has been much more stable than it was at the time I did this video. There are still instances of power cuts, but not as frequent as before.
      Namibia:
      33% of Namibians have access to proper sanitation.
      2% of households have access to a proper toilet inside the home.
      52% of the population have access to electricity.

    • @IvyProsper
      @IvyProsper  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This video was made in June 2018. But the behaviour of landlords has not changed much.
      The Rent Act of 1963 states that landlords in Ghana can only charge a maximum six months rent in advance. So it's been the law for 57 years!!! Unfortunately that has not been followed and the law has not been enforced. It's the responsibility of potential tenants to have complained to the government, but they don't. Instead they just pay the 1, 2 and 3 years with no complaints.
      If people had been complaining all along, then landlords would have followed the laws because they could face jail time when they break this law.
      Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Information announced in their Press Briefing about 2 weeks ago that they are going to start enforcing the law and that tenants should report landlords asking for more than 6 months. Landlords can face 3 years jail time if they break this law. But how is the government to know if people who pay rent don't file the formal complaints?
      Just this morning someone sent me a WhatsApp Message about a 2 Bedroom apartment for rent and they are asking for 1 year advance payment. When I commented that they shouldn't be asking for more than 6 months, I was told that landlords are still asking for 1 - 2 years.

      @@IvyProsper Thanks for the update. Im not disputing what you are saying. Im just surprised because i heard from a friend in Ghana years ago that it was being enforced now. I myself used to pay 2 years advance when I was in ghana. Not funny at all. Imagine all that money that could have been used more productively. We need to lobby the government to enforce it unfortunately ghanaians do not seem to have that culture.

    Yes I would like to visit Ghana but what are the restrictions if any for black americans? I mean I heard the door was open without restrictions for us to come back home but then someone said that can't be true so can you ask your King/President if there are any restrictions or can I just come? I have a passport but do i need one to come back home? I mean I didn't need one when I left 400 years ago. Do I need to take any kind of medication shots which I don't want to because my faith will keep me safe? Do I need a Visa? And if so why do I need a Visa if I am invited to come back home? Please ask your Leader specifically for me because I am ready to come back home. Of course my first trip would be a visit no less than 10 days or no more than 30 days and then my second trip will be my final trip to stay for good but also ask Him if I can have dual citizenship because I think I would like to or need to visit back here from time to time to vote and other business issues.

    • @IvyProsper
      @IvyProsper  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, as you said, you didn't need a passport 400 years ago; because people were taken forcefully away from the continent.
      Unfortunately you can't apply that logic to the world we love in today when travelling. The reality is you live in a country where you are already a passport holding citizen. You would travel to Ghana with that passport, for which, you need a Visa to enter the country. Once you are in Ghana, if you choose to stay longer you would need to renew the Visa while you're still in the country. This is an easy process. You can apply for residency when you stay in the country after a period of time or when you get a job/start a business.
      You first need to be a resident before you can apply for citizenship. Please refer to the Ministry of Interior and Ghana Immigration for more accurate information on that topic.
      Yellow Fever shot is required to enter the country. Some people choose to take anti-malaria medications but it's not mandatory. You can check the travel guidelines that your current country jas issued regarding travel to Ghana.
      For now, at the time of my responding to your comment, Ghana's borders are closed indefinitely because of the global crisis we are all in.

      @@IvyProsper but the point I'm trying to make is Lagos is more developed. If you're saying that the water is not drinkable in Ghana then in hindsight it's not livable.

      @@jjtiojohn12 There are areas of Ghana that yes, the water is not the best, especially for foreigners not used to it. The exact same goes for Lagos. I have lots of friends from there who have spoken about the poverty and bad sanitation in some areas contrasted with the extreme wealth and development of some areas. It's the same in Ghana.

    If you truly want to live in Ghana live among the natives. Ghana is another oil rich misguided kingdom for which you will find out soon enough. If people want to go back to Africa the government of the US should pay one way tickets for all of you to get out of here. You people are being duped by this Africa thing. You not African, you have different language and culture.

      People from the U.S. are not the only Black people moving to Ghana or other African countries. I have met Black people from Canada, the U.K., Australia, Jamaica, Holland, Italy, France and Germany who moved to Ghana. So your comment about the U.S. government paying for flights is not relevant to me. People move from one country to another all the time and governments don't pay that cost.
      Also you said people are being "duped", please elaborate on your statement. I like to have clarity in conversations.
