The biggest thing we do not like about this new Kia Niro is the takeaway of the federal tax credits for the PHEV and EV version

I now have a 2018 HEV LX model, which has been mechanically perfect and gets great mileage. Just ordered a 2023 HEV EX model. Pluses in the video are fine. The only minus feature that's also a minus for me is the location of the rear turn signal. I agree - something higher (and there's plenty of room to have put it higher) would be more visible and thus more safe. Contrasting aero blade is an option I didn't order. I don't mind that the HEV is "meh" when it comes to acceleration. My street racing days are long past.

The aero blades ARE available to color match the car. In fact, I believe the contrasting color is only available on the upper trims. As far as pricing, the EV will probably start in the $40s, which takes it off my short list having lost the federal tax credit. And almost every other review I've watched has criticized the touch "button" to switch between infotainment and A/C modes because they require you to take your eyes off the road.

The “trunk” sizes do differ in size across the HEV, PHEV and EV

I mean there's alot not to like about it. so much of the car is really put together but like can we get some risk in our driving? I want to see them take it up a notch and its kind of a tame car

Just adorable -- the car too.
    I have a gen 2 soul with the 1.6l 130hp 6 speed.
Nothing is more fun than driving a slow car fast. Can not beat the feeling of drifting the onramp onto I-94 or 494. Well, I have 31,000 miles on her and she needs new tires. So drifting the onramp may be fun, you pay for it with the tires.
I have to say that I am not a fan of the rear unibrow over the hatch. Looks like they could only purchase rear roof sections that were 18" too long, so they just said "Farfegnugen".

Great review and comparisons. I am driving a 2022 Hyundai Kona (same back up camera so KIA didn't upgrade in Niro like the Kona 360 cameras). Been looking at the 2024 Kona EV as my next vehicle in Fall of 2024. That is, until I came across a Niro. As of this comment, I haven't test drove one yet (or the Kona), but I'm liking the PHEV SX Touring Niro over the Kona. Kona has a bigger trunk (hatch?) and a cargo cover, but other than that, I find the shape of the Kona to be a little too "RoboCop" for my tastes. Plus, I was originally looking at the Kona ICE AWD, but now thinking a PHEV is a better deal, even at $42,000 MSRP. As I'll be leasing, I get the Federal Tax credits -- $7500 -- off MSRP so the PHEV or EV is same or less than the ICE I'm looking at. If I go with the PHEV, I never have to worry about charging when not at home, such as when I'm parked at the airport for a week, where there is no chargers (yet).

Charging speed and road noise are the 2 weakest points. Otherwise it’s a really solid car.

Lack of wireless Android Auto can be fixed with an AAWireless dongle. It costs less than $100. There are similar dong'es for CarPlay.

She literally knows nothing about the vehicles she reviews, and dig deep to come up with 5 dislikes so that it can fit the format of her reviews, sometimes recycling the same dislike for multiple vehicles. Some of the complaints aren't even valid bc there are either work arounds for them, or she is just wrong due to lack of knowledge about the vehicle. Her husband is much better at reviewing vehicles as he is much more subjective and knowledgeable about the vehicle.

Other OEMs do it 🤷🏻‍♀️. And the base screen is wireless. It’s weird that you lose technology as you gain screen size. All Kia, Hyundai and Genesis vehicles have this quirk and I find it weird in all of them.
