Hey buddy I live in the middle of the trails and nobody that I know would ever charge for help so calling it a scam is the right word for it because around here we help if we can because it's how we was raised and love that others get to enjoy some of the same places we do daily! So sorry that happened and thanks for calling it out!!! My advice use your best judgement but find someone local you can trust to take along but only if you want or know you can trust them!!! Again thanks for letting people know that happened and sorry that it did! Hope you come back soon and be careful out there but have fun!!!
@@billbrewer5036 thanks and yes me personally i never had a issue but our buddy went by himself with his family on a single side by side and I guess he just had bad luck and encountered a bad group but it happens so better be careful but we love going we try yo go at least twice a year
@@clevermotorsports I'm glad it never happened to you and it sucks about your friend remember and remind people never go alone because you never know and like here near me there's no cell service for miles and miles and you could ride all day and never see anyone or any houses so always take at least one other machine just in case!!! Keep on riding just be safe !!!
The thing i was most shocked about on my first trip to the trails was the excessive use of alcohol and Marijuana. Just about every large group that's stopped along the trail is partaking in it. I ride with my kids and its a shame that i have to worry so much about drunk drivers. The only saving grace is that there are so many miles of trails, and if you ride during the week day's, you may only see a handful of other riders.
Yes that is true but that most places you go ride not much we can do about that but be aware of our surroundings if they get caught it can be a pretty hefty fine I've heard of checkpoints in the trails I've never personally encounter one
@@fitzfarm8694 wonder if they just don't want to scare riders away or something maybe, still should do something like you said I've seen some individuals that should not be behind the wheel of anything We avoid going on holiday weekends those are the worse
Kids should have a designated area. It's really a adult sport. But also understand your frustration as most around here drink and ride like idiots and is why people dislike riders
Nice review. Other things that should be mentioned. Most all trails are two-way trails lot of people don't understand that. Don't stop in the middle of a trail to take a break unless you're broke down. Learn the hand signals when riding on the trail. Have fun.
Forget the hand signals. Keep your hands on the steering wheel or bars. As a snowmobiler as well, most clubs, riding areas and even the state of NY does not recommend the use of hand signals. Most importantly is to travel at a safe speed.
@@fitzfarm8694some of these trails are not very wide especially in a steep hill you don't want to get 2 groups of riders stuck in the middle of the hill so hand signals can actually save you from a bad situation by letting the other group know that you still have riders coming behind but yeah some times it's not ideal taking your hands off the wheel or handlebars
I use to ride these trails before they ever were the Hatfield and McCoy trails. We never used hand signals, but then again there weren’t anywhere near as many riders on these trails back then, neither were they maintained like these. Yeah I remember when they were just starting out as the Hatfield and McCoy trails, I would see riders from out of state riding real fast, I already knew they weren’t from there. You can’t ride that fast on these trails with sharp blind curves, some of these curves may have a 300ft drop off at nearly a 90 degree turn. People have been killed on these trails, so do your part and be safe. Try to keep in mind there are other riders out there too, likely driving just as fast coming your way, and neither of you know the other is there. Hand signals aren’t of much use if you don’t even know the person is there in the first place. And yes please show respect for the locals, they live there all year long, and see a lot of riders come and go. For some it’s almost like they are being invaded by a lot of strangers. So show respect, and consideration. Most locals are very friendly, and often interested in meeting new people from various places, just as you may find the trails interesting. And yes those scammers will meet their end, we will deal with them ourselves. Remember these are small towns, people talk. th-cam.com/video/b1_RKu-ESCY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=BiB9n7QzVanZB7Of
@TiffanyBottomsHunter yes it's true everyone we've met has been nothing but kind and helpful so far sadly our buddy just encountered a bad group but hopefully it doesn't happen to anyone else
Yes, cell service is quite sketchy on the trails. If you have an emergency or just want to check your messages, your best bet is to go to the top of the hills and try. It worked for me in a few different locations. Bikes and 4whlrs take spare clutch and brake levers, those are usually first to break in an incident. 🖒✌
Oh yea for sure but gotta remember not everyone does and also people riding with family will probably try to solve it peacefully before especially if they are out numbered so rather warn everyone so it may prevent people from falling for this again
Good review and if someone try's to scam you like that report it... on the trails we are one big family and there for each other. so no scammers life's to short for that shit.... stay safe out there
Yes but even then it would be very difficult to catch them with the amount of people that ride the trails and being so big the best bet is just stay informed and be cautious
I do wish in many cases that the trails were one way! There have been many occasions when a SxS came through a bermed curve side ways taking any safe passage away from the on coming traffic and with many blind switchback that is dangerous! Ride your side bike 4 wheeler or SxS!
Same never did before until it happened to one of our friends riding his side by side with his family came back telling us about it he was pissed and after we were talking to someone about it and said they did hear from someone else so it could have been a group from out of state being a$$#oles but better be informed just in case we don't know who they are
These are great public services messages. Thank you for taking the time to share. Safe riding!

Yes!!! I broke many on the dirtbike especially haha
OH NO!!!!!!!!!! I need to be self reliant? Cell Service should be a Human Right!!!
Spot on review 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 haven’t run into people trying to take advantage of your mishap yet!!!
There is always going to be some one out there trying to take advantage of people
Some of us ride armed always and do not take kindly to being robbed. You try and detain me and its going to go badly. For all involved.

Yes one way trails would be nice we definitely had some close calls especially with side by sides coming in hot because they take most of the trail
They need to make these trails wider. Machines keep getting bigger but the trails stay the same width.
To be honest they probably need to stop making the machines bigger... have you seen the Maverick R that thing is the width of a full size truck hahaha
@@clevermotorsports 100% the machines need to stop getting wider. Sxs are ruining the trails.
Keep the trails the same. Stop grooming, making wider, etc. That's why I ride. I want a challenge. I agree the machines need to stop getting bigger.
Sxs do tear the trails a lot more than anything else
I like a challenge but it is nice they do maintain them specially if there is big obstacles that fall and require bigger machinery
Ive honestly never heard anyone mention that scam before.....
