- Is the MP5 platform still the cream of the crop for pistol caliber carbines? Is it still 1985?
In this video we go over the aftermarket parts and accessories that you need to make an MP5 clone into a viable modern pistol caliber ca- pistol. We started with a factory fresh PTR 9CT 601 and turned it into a night vision capable tactical subgun. But that sucked, so we scaled it back a bit. The end result is a little more practical and tasteful.

It's weird how the same thing in .308 sells for like half the price.

@@joelerk6298 it's also the fact that PTR bought surplus tooling for their 308 line and has been making them for years. I think they had to tool up the 9mm line out of their own funding and start from scratch.

@@echodelta2172 Technically PTR didn't buy surplus tooling, they bough the Portuguese Government's Technical Data Package for the G3 and used that to make the PTR 91 with modern manufacturing processes. Still, yes this is why they can make them for cheap.

I’ve always wanted an MP5, I just wasn’t willing to pay the outrageous H&K prices. I picked up a PTR9ct and I love it. Such a fun gun to shoot. It filled the nostalgic niche for me.
The Century Arms AP5 is simply a 1960's-70's styled earlier MP5 clone when the PTR-9ct is the later MP5A2 equivalent which I can get complete replacement parts for from HK Parts. That's another story for the AP5. Also you'll notice their 1/2x28 MP5/SP5 thread caps are are too short for the PTR-9ct because PTR allows for extra threads for less chance off suppressor walk off and minor detection to help prevent baffle/end cap strike. You can even get smooth (metal, black) replacement 1/2x28 thread caps online for your PTR-9ct from GSL Technology, Inc. that fit perfectly and allow for o-ring fit and full thread protection. @@MikeRehfuss I’d run across used ones minus the light for an ok price, as well as the light unit alone used. Piecing a used one together is still around $250+. Then you run into the light hitting a can if you want to suppress it, so you have to get that goofy ass offset light.
They were just in stock for 95 bones at Arms Unlimted for a police trade-in (8/19/21). OOS now. You gotta be quick!!!
@@robc5082 That’s a killer damn price. I stopped searching for handguards after I got my KAC rail and mount. Otherwise I might have lucked across one.
I went through a similar journey with my PTR 9 before I traded it. If you can get a hold of the surefire weapon light integrated handguards that is imho the best option for lighting up a mp5. I just can't justify keeping around PCCs for some reason and always go back to rifles as rifles and pistols as pistols. I took mine just about as far as I thought it could go as far as practicality/functionality but I still don't miss it. It filled a niche of always wanting an MP5 but it wasn't enough to keep. Keep up the great content!
You just broke down start to finish the curiosity filled journey with any niche gun. I think i’d be a buyer if I ever come across a 10m. I highly doubt any non fa models were made by HK. :/
@@0mgapie 10mm would be sweet and could arguably bridge the gap between niche and something practical like bear yeeter or something else you can add another justification for keeping.
It really is hard to justify a pcc when ammo prices are as high as they are, and 300 BO does everything a pcc does but with rifle ballistics. They are cool, but I totally get why you let it go.

I recently bought an MP5 clone, AP5 and to solve the red dot/iron site issue, bought a $40 Kley-Zion ultra low profile mount and used a Romeo 5 with low picatinny mount. With this setup I get a good cheekweld and the red dot is on the tip for the front sight post. Works very well for me!

@@MusikCabaret the MP5 has been outdated for quite some time. It was never designed to support optics of any kind, lights or lasers. This was an afterthought.
The only reason the US military took so long to replace it is because there was no competition until recently.

It matters for those who want it as a collectors gun, as in trying to mimic the MP-5 of the olden days that we can't have either due to laws or the original manufacturers charging absurd amounts for the neutered civilian variants. I have a SIG 556 that looks like a 551, real Swiss lower, furniture, magazines. I wanted a SIG 551, but I don't have 8 thousand fucking dollars nor would I spend that on some asshole reselling his JDI import for twice what he paid for it.

I’m watching this video 2 years after you made it and there has been more MP5 products to come to market as well as the cheap MKE imports from century. I haven’t had any problems finding ways to modernize mine and none of it is costing any more than AR15 parts. The reload is by far its biggest drawback but man it shoots so well I can deal with it. I have a surefire vampire light and a holosun IR laser mounted on a Midwest handguard with a modbutton dual lead mounted on top of the cocking tube right behind the front sight. Really pretty close to the way I setup my AR15’s, and I’m doing this with a K model. So far I really like it.
Ran MP5s with Law Enforcement and Military for many years. Once I looked into a personal SMG/PCC platform, I went through all the available sources on the market (AR/AK, B&T, H&K, CZ, etc and finally choose the SIG MPX K gen 2. Full Ambidextrous controls, height correct rail that goes from rear to front, switched from the SIG Handguard for the Midwest M-Lok handguard, Magpul K2 grip, BAD-ASS Ambidextrous safety, SureFire M340C Mini ScoutLight and SB collapsible brace. I run an EOTech XPS3 and my PVS-14 works perfect with it.

I have tried a few different red dots on my 9CT. I keep going back to the irons. So I went the opposite direction and picked up the classic light in the forehand grip and I am rolling with that setup. I love it. Not everything in my safe needs new tech. somethings are just better left as is.

Cutting the Ring of the Front sight up has been done since the late 90s when the Aimpoint 9000 were started to be used by Units like Delta and Team Six on their MP5s. Way back in the 90s there were a couple of companies that made Mounts that would allow Tactical Lights and Lasers to attach to a Mount that would go on the Cocking Tube Cap with the Replacement of the Cap with a Cap that had mounting points for one or two items on either side of the Cocking Tube. I do not know if those mounts are STILL being made but they should be available in the Secondary Market.

I SBRed mine solved the switch problem. I also have a RM2 mounted on the right side . On a 45 degree offset rail. I like mine thousands of rounds through it.

Just don’t try to AR an MP5 and it will suit all ur civilian needs just fine. Very interesting video and glad someone attempted it but an MP5 was made for full auto and it being semi auto in general defeats the whole purpose of the weapon system.

I have an MRO with that same ADM mount on my sp5 with B&T rail. The dot is perfectly placed above the front sight hood like you said. Perfect option if the MRO was better 😭. You might want to try the Magpul handguard, it's light weight. Fyi, I have the b&t side folder you mentioned. Another good option would be an ACR stock since it has an adjustable cheek weld and it's still foldable.

Got to love the honesty. I've run in to issue's with c308 tying to make more comfortable to lug around when out hunting. I like shooting it but it's not a practical hunting rifle. It does work but as you said why suffer.

I agree, I guess it is supposed to take the stress of your shoulders why you carry the gun, but more relevant in the G3/PTR 91. Mostly designed for guards who had to stand on their feet for like 8 hours at a post.
It's made to keep a secondary weapon at the ready with a heavy load out or rappel. Same purpose as the clip that he knew nothing about.

That little hook on the mag well is not for a sling. That's actually a hook so that weapon will hook on to your uniform. It sounds weird, but its true. It's a 'quick attach' loop for when operators want to attach it tight to their uniform when repelling or using their hands for other uses.Its located in the middle - the weight of the gun is equally distributed across the body.
This is confirmation that the only reason to buy an MP5 is for the aesthetic alone.
If you're buying a PCC, an already basically useless platform, it might as well be just for the aesthetics.

I catch a lot of grief when I tell people the PTR 9ct is better than the SP5. My reasoning is the mlok handguard and picattiny rail for a red dot. I put a Sightmark Wolverine and absolutely Love it!!!

Wake up babe new hop video
As someone who has only customized one gun (my SKS with a polymer chasis so it can take magazines as well as not get unbearably hot in the summer times), I can say that the MP5 when I shot it full auto at a range was the most pleasant and fun shooting experience with a gun I've ever had. It was so smooth.
But really, other than that, owning one which I am getting myself a clone version of it, is simply aesthetic. It's just so badass. It's badass, the history of it is badass, and the iconic nature of it is badass. It will never truly be replaced, only wane usefulness as it is seen as less modular. I can't imagine a world where one armed force isn't using a MP5 or PCC at some point.

I run a Romeo 5 on mine have used both the folding stock and collapsing version the cool factor is longer so for back pack usage the folding is best. the romeo 5 works great on my CT 601 and love it

I run a Mod Button on my PTR at the 6 o'clock using an offset mount so it sits sort of between the 6 and 9 (nice) position. Works okay to actuate it with my pointer finger and leaves the left side completely open for IR if I want to try in the future.
Realistically though in 2021, I think any 9mm PCC/Sub gun is too compromised to be truly practical. Pistol chassis setups are smaller with similar performance and short 300blk builds are way more effective at the pewpew part and not much bigger. Because of this I went PTR because MP5s are plain just cooler than AR9s, Scorpions, etc

I can vouch for the KCI Gen2s as well. I got 10 30s for my 9CT and 10 20s for my 9KT. I originally had 10 30s and 10 20s from ETS, but they seem a lot more difficult to insert than the metal KCI mags.

I put a folding Gearhead works brace with a Tailhook Mod1c and it fits perfectly in the case. Way better than the SBA Tactical brace in my opinion. I also put a flush mount Midwest Industries QD mount with a Holosun green dot 507c optic, working great for me.

06:48 I run a Romeo 1 on my Walther MP5 clone and it works well enough despite the height and allows for co-witnesses with irons like you said in the video. Just make sure you zero it at 25 yards or more as that huge “sight over bore” will give you a lot of angular error and change the point of impact wildly if you zero it any closer.
