Neighbors kept stopping to say THANK YOU for mowing this yard for FREE

It’s been over a year since this lawn was mowed. The kid that lives there lost his parents a couple years ago now and works full time just getting by. He actually had his house broken into the night before and I had already planned to offer to clean up the yard for free. I got permission when I went over to check on him and got to work as soon as possible.
I know it’s been over a year because I did it for free the year prior as well. With the 4th of July coming up and over 100 degree days the last few weeks it felt like a good time to get rid of the dead weeds and grass.
I had to move some large tree branches that fell during the winter just so I didn’t hurt my lawn mower. It’s just a little battery operated Ryobi mower so I need to be careful. I did some edging and I mowed it 3 times. Once at 4 inches, 2 inches, and 1 inch. I filled a whole green waste can with all the clippings.
4 neighbors came by while I was working to say thank you. One even gave me a popsicle. It was very rewarding to know the neighborhood was appreciative. I hope the neighbor feels better about his living space now. It’s little things like this that can make you feel more comfortable.
