I first heard this song by Olivia newton-john back in the mid 70's. I wasn't even aware at the time that you had written this wonderful ballad. once I heard your version of "follow me", it hit me just what a marvelous talent you really were. your songs of inspiration & about nature & wildlife made me fall in love with your music. heaven isn't good enough for what you've done, god needs to create a special place for talents like yourself. rest well, you've earned it.
36 yrs ago my wife and I got married. A friend of ours played this at our wedding. I still play this song for her on my guitar. It still brings tears to my eyes.
I love every single song that John Denver made, even when he was still young ,just starting up ,So amazing to feel that youre a part of everything that he sang,Such an absolutely brilliant, talented ,magnificent musician
Beautiful lyrics, beautiful voice, missed through the passage of time and the changes in the industry called music ... there's no syncopated drumbeat or disco techno hippy hoppy gar-bage' just that sweet sounding voice ...
This sounds like it could have come from the folkie era, in the early 60s. Guess a heartfelt acoustic song is timeless. Thanks for posting. Merry Christmas, TH-camrs!
The music of John Denver has really touched my heart and I am still very saddened by his death.... The music of John Denver and that of Judith Durham, ironically both have the same initials, is what keeps me going..... Love them both...
oh my god how sweet and beautiful is this song.Ya la traduje al español,la canto desde siempre con mi guitarra, es una cancion que esta siempre entre mis mejores.gracias John,te amo mucho!!!!
I wish I had started playing guitar back during that era... maybe that era will have a revival, or a re-run, but I doubt it...not with this current young generation...
This may sound silly and somewhat weird, but whenever I listen to the part of this song from 01:22 all the way to the end, it sounds a bit like an ode to private investigators everywhere. I always chuckle a bit when I hear it.
The person who introduces John is Fred Willard of Guffman, Best in Show and Fernwood Tonight fame. Fred is still one of the funniest guys in the business.
@NikiLuther Niki is John's birthday on new years day because that is also my mom's birthday. If so happy birthday John! The sun shines a little less bright without you here.
It's by far the hardest thing I've ever done To be so in love with you and so alone Follow me where I go what I do and who I know Make it part of you to be a part of me Follow me up and down all the way and all around Take my hand and say you'll follow me It's long been on my mind You know it's been a long, long time I've tried to find the way that I can make you understand The way I feel about you and just how much I need you To be there where I can talk to you When there's no one else around Follow me where I go what I do and who I know Make it part of you to be a part of me Follow me up and down all the way and all around Take my hand and say you'll follow me You see I'd like to share my life with you And show you things I've seen Places that I'm going to places where I've been To have you there beside me and never be alone And all the time that you're with me We will be at home Follow me where I go what I do and who I know Make it part of you to be a part of me Follow me up and down all the way Take my hand and I will follow you
OMG!!! Did John write this song? I have loved this song since I heard it on the Danielle Steel movie "Star". I am also a HUGE John Denver fan. I just now heard the Olivia Newton-John version of the song too and I loved it!!!
***** That's wonderful!!! I need to find out where to get it!!! I am going to record it on my phone but I want to get it on disk for my car so I have to find out what album its on!!! If you have any ideas please let me know!!!
hahaha! the crowd track at 0:16 "YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy.........................."
Well, you have to consider that MTV is primarily for rock shows, and this is acoustic music. Light extravaganza would be out of place at a John Denver performance, just as a finger picked 12 string guitar would be out of place at a rock concert. They all have their place.
This is such a tender lovesong. John is so young here. Even after 45 years, sounds as beautiful as ever.
John focuses more on the words than the show, I love that about him. He sings because he has a message :)

A very touching song, like a lot of his work. Makes you cry tears of joy - and later those of sadness for a lost love you used to sing it for...

I had the pleasure of watching John Denver at the London Palladium too many years ago. It was some of the best money I've ever spent. :-)
It is so sad what this generation misses Simple and beautiful

I would have liked to meet you. RIP John Denver. :'(
I was lucky enough to meet him at the Greek in 1992 or so, what a great guy

Much more finger picking articulation in this early version than the later versions. A treasure to have on video.

I named my daughter "Annie" in tribute.
+Janet McFarland-Alberico As did half of China, because they would only allow JDs music to be broadcast. As far as western music goes.
Brook Anderson Wow! I never knew that about China.
Yet another reason to admire John Denver ❤
It's by far the hardest thing I've ever done
To be so in love with you and so alone
Follow me where I go what I do and who I know
Make it part of you to be a part of me
Follow me up and down all the way and all around
Take my hand and say you'll follow me
It's long been on my mind
You know it's been a long, long time
I've tried to find the way that I can make you understand
The way I feel about you and just how much I need you
To be there where I can talk to you
When there's no one else around
Follow me where I go what I do and who I know
Make it part of you to be a part of me
Follow me up and down all the way and all around
Take my hand and say you'll follow me
You see I'd like to share my life with you
And show you things I've seen
Places that I'm going to places where I've been
To have you there beside me and never be alone
And all the time that you're with me
We will be at home
Follow me where I go what I do and who I know
Make it part of you to be a part of me
Follow me up and down all the way
Take my hand and I will follow you
🤩

You should check out June Carter's version on Johnny Cash's album called "Gospel Road".
Before the days of MTV,light shows and computer generated images this was music
@czarinaanya Yes!!! I am still sad and I never even got to see him live!
He obviously wrote this for Annie, a lovesong.
@BowserKod I'm 14, alomst 15, and I really love JD's music.
hahaha! the crowd track at 0:16 "YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy.........................."
@TheSanityInspector Well, that makes sense because John came from that type of music.
@BowserKod I am 20 and he is one of my idols along iwht alton brown and mike mills among others
