This was THE video I was looking for the past half a year 😂 thank you!!!!
Wow. Well I’m glad you found it. Hope it helps you out
Your channel is one of the best i have seen. Thank you for your videos
Wow. Thanks so much! I really appreciate you comment.
Skimmed thru the video coz i kinda had an idea of what to do and such. very VERY helpful. I , for some reason, thought perhaps there would be an easier or faster way and nah. Seems like im on the right path. 😊 Thanks!! Suscribing. Seems like a great channel.
Buy a pack of 2mm thick EVA foam. Can get about 50 sheets the size of school paper for $12. This stuff is amazing for making your own small sanding sponges which you can contour to all kinds of shapes inside and outside. Also you can bend it to act like a squeegee and shape filler putty a whole lot smoother than you ever could with a finger on shapes like the bottom of his pants.
Hey Chris,
I am very very new to 3d printing and i have never done the painting part..... i like you're videos.
With my like you have 999 likes 😉
Greetings from Holland
Pretty good idea with the gap squeeze out.
Great video. Just curious, why did you choose to print in FDM when you had the option to print resin? Don't resin print always turn out better and reduce a ton of post processing work?
Thanks!
Another enjoyable video. Any your videos i watch i am always able to get some nugget of technique that i know is going to improve my own work. Thanks and keep em coming
Awesome! Glad it could help. Hoping this whole series will have a lot of nuggets if techniques for you.
Awesome job! Please continue
Thanks so much! The next segment is this Friday at noon EST.
Excellent video. I just tarted making things with my new printer Your video was very relaxing to watch. I need to get some small tools and an assortment of paint. I really watching videos like this. I appreciate all the work that you do to make such a professional quality presentation. I'm excited! Thanks.
Thank you so much! Comments like this one make all the work worth it. I truly hope this helps you. If your on Instagram tag me @itsmeadmade I’d love to see what you end up doing
The next video in the series drop today at noon est.
Hey man! I just want to say thank you for this series of videos! really made me subscribe and watch all your other content! I 3D print a lot of figurines but they are all gray and is bothering me now I want to lean how to paint them and this really made me want to paint my figurines! thank you! I appreciate you!
Oh awesome I’m really glad you liked them! Good luck with your painting projects.
@@ItsMeaDMaDe thank you!!! And yeah I just finished watching the Deadpool you painted for your wife looks amazing! Good stuff my guy! You are extremely talented! I'm gonna start this weekend I have to find something very simple and easy to print and paint so I can start somewhere hehehehe
Thank you for these great videos, I've learned a lot!! Thank you very much!! :)
Actually step 2 is... send to you to do it! You do a great job!!
depending on your filament you can use a very small amount of acetone on a papertowel and a glas bowl in to make a make-shift vapor chamber to smoothen the surface but that might need some practice to be effective
This is Incredible! Can't wait for the next parts. It's gonna be a great series. 🔥
Awesome!!! Glad you liked it. The next one will be out Friday!
This is very detailed and easy to follow! Can't wait for part 2
Thank you very much!
Great to hear! Next one will be out 2/4 at noon EST.
what filament do you use? not sure which is the best filament for sanding
have you tried the whole resin thing to get in between the layer lines
Amazing video 🤩🤩🤩
Thanks a lot! Hope you were able to pick up a helpful tip or two!
Wish that plier set was still available
Is it better to assemble it before painting or paint individual pieces and then glue it together?
It really depends sometimes it’s easier to just assemble and then paint if it doesn’t have hidden seems. But if the seems are hidden you can paint it separately the. Glue it together
Can you still use wood filler instead of plastic putty for the seems.
Gracias gracias gracias 🎉❤
I have a woodworking background too!!!
Which pla filament is best for sanding and painting ?
Great video. I do have a question, though. Why do you print the model in pieces like that instead of as one piece?
That’s how the model came.
Watching you hold your iron, reminded me of Luke holding a lightsabre for the first time. Please people, I know its "Just the Tip" but careful with your fingers.
what layer height was the model made with?
Can the iron be used for smoothing layer lines?
Yes. But you have to be very careful. It’s probably best to just use sand paper.
Hey Chris I have another question, sorry for so many questions lol I’ve been watching over your videos a few times and I got everything that you showed to purchase to make your own wash my question is how can you determine when exactly to use a wash and exactly how to apply it on certain things for example I just made 6 to 7 inch Chucky doll and want it to define the texture more so that things come out my question is do I do the wash first or do I prime it first? do I wait to paint the whole thing and then use a wash where exactly would I apply the wash or should I even do the wash at all sorry for such long question.
First don’t ever apologize for the questions I’m truly glad to help you.
Washes. You kinda asked a loaded question. There are so many ways and times to use washes. So bare with me on this answer.
Primer always first. No matter what. The primer is your base coat that allows your other paints to adhere to your model. Your wash could be added at any time. You can cover the model or only in specific areas. If you really want to bring out texture I like to base coat color a little lighter that you want. Then black wash. (That darken to the color you wanted…hopefully take time to understand and get right) then I do a dry brush over the area with a lighter color or even a darker. Save your test prints and practice different options.
Hope that helped. You brought to light I probably should do a video on this topic.
@@ItsMeaDMaDe Thank you so much for the response I would definitely love to watch a video specifically on washes and dry painting. I always believe that visually can be learned much better. PS the solar spinner comes in tomorrow lol.
@@PowerAirSimulations I’ll add it to my list.
@@PowerAirSimulations Oh! and congrats on your turntable. Hope you like it as much as I love mine.
hi. for fdm 3d print, PLA filament better than ABS?
Can the ABS be sanded or painted easily after printing? Are these two materials (PLA and ABS) very different?
thanks.
I wouldn’t say one is better than the other. People use them for different things, and each have different uses. ABS is very strong and people like to use that for prototyping but it is harder to print and can be a little bit finicky, but PLA is a lot easier to print, especially for beginners and the added bonus is it doesn’t give an odor when it’s printing unlike ABS. Both are pretty much the same when it comes to sanding and painting I hope that helps you.
Thanks alot@@ItsMeaDMaDe
Hello. For the models that were produced with resin and have a very smooth surface, do you roughen their surface with sandpaper before painting?Or there is no need?
If yes, what sanding number do you use for models that are made with resin?
If it’s a clean print with no layer lines I don’t sand it. But for resin processing I did make a video showing how I did that. This was only focusing on fdm.
Here is the video for resin.

@@ItsMeaDMaDe Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. I just discovered your channel. I will definitely watch all your videos. Thanks again 😊
interesting a lot to know
Yes, it’s an involved hobby.
Hey, I have question regarding the name of the technique joining the parts what is this method called? @0.33 sec
I’m probably asking a very stupid question, I’m just started to look into 3d printing, but can’t you print this model in one piece?
yes but it makes it more difficult to paint 1 large piece.
@@miguellopez3392 makes sense, thanks!
16:31 Pun intended! 😂
Ha ha ha. OMG!!! Brilliant. That gave me a good laugh!
7:37 that's what she said
I *know* it's not Styrofoam but my brain refuses to process this as plastic 😂
err FYI it is called "Zenithal" not Zentenial :)
Remember, keep your tip clean ;)
I watched your rub-n-buff video as well as this one (great videos and techniques, by the way) but I couldn't help but notice the overabundance and "protection" when using both the rub-n-buff as well as the glazing putty. Just for the record, EVERYTHING seems "to be known to the state of california to cause cancer and reproductive harm." Oddly... only california seems to know about this phenomenon. I mean... you do you, of course, but the respirator is overkill for "fumes." PLUS... I can't help but notice that you didn't wear (or recommend) the respirator when sanding - which would have been a better use case scenario - or when using the Gorilla Glue... and according to it's data sheet, has the same "detrimental effects" as the glazing putty... Just sayin' is all ;)
But... Love the videos and can't wait to go watch the rest of the series!
Lol. The life of a TH-camr 😅. I completely understand what your saying. On other videos I’ve gotten a lot flack from people saying I’m not using certain PPE that I should be using. I just try to make people aware of the safety precautions. Do I always do them…? No. But it’s my safety and I don’t care cause I’m in a really well ventilated room. But you did get me on the sanding & glue. My wife gets on me about that too. 😂.
Thanks for watching I’m glad your enjoying the series.
