My grandmother..though she has Alzheimer's and remembers very little.. at 96 years of age.. can sing this song word for word. Mrs. Hillard will never know how this song has been planted on my loved one's heart.. just lovely
I watched some other videos of Harriet singing and she sings from the diaphragm, giving great breath control and smooth vocals. Ricky definitely learned from her. I always wondered how he could sing so effortlessly (seemingly).
I'm amazed at what a great singer Harriet Nelson was. I never knew that Ozzie had his own band and they worked together. Ozzie could also sing just as well. Both were very gifted. Its no wonder where their kids & grandkids got their talent.
There's a marked difference between the performers of this era and later generations. Harriet is truly performing this song, pouring herself into it -- not just making sounds.
The Nelsons had a house on our beach in Laguna. They were all as kind & gracious as seen on TV. Ozzie was an excellent swimmer & tackled dangerous waves & navigated rocky currents on days when I wouldn't even get in the water. Ricky let all of us use his private cove.
This is a great Irving Berlin song--the words and melody are brilliant! I had never heard it until I watched the movie. I have an original copy of this song on an Ampico player piano roll and it is an outstaniding arrangement on the Ampico piano.
My wife loves this song! She cries when we watch this movie on TCM! She wasn’t even born yet, but she is an old soul. She keeps me young! I dedicate this song to my beloved honeybun!
She had been a dancer and married to her dance partner before getting a divorce and meeting Ozzie. We all lucked out there. She was an institution as Ric and Dave's mother! Good singer, high kicker (one episode of the Nelson's, she did quite a Charleston) and nice person.
Harriet remained beautiful all through her life. Her voice was lovely and I don't know how Ozzie got so lucky. lol He was nice looking but she could have had someone more handsome. She sure loved him. Talked about him after he died and it broke your heart. I am watching the repeat shows on youtube of Ozzie and Harriet. Loved the whole family and the show.
My sentiments exactly, I grew up watching the Nelsons but could only remember when Ricky sang, whom I was crushing on. That show showcases the entire family but what touches me the most is the complete loveliness of Harriet. With every decade, she stayed as lovely as the decade before. Thank goodness for entertainment purposes, we had the opportunity to invite this family into our homes. I am glad that I can watch them all now on TH-cam! I am glad Ricks kids are continuing the legacy but the loss of these people is a bitter pill to the fans as well as the Nelson family. Harriet even told her grandson Sam that it was about the connection that they made with people. They succeeded with flying colors!!! Today's entertainment is crass garbage. Thank goodness for film and video tape! Peace and good health to you!
Why does a man have to be handsome to be worthy? I know a bald headed guy that is wonderful. He was bald headed at 35. It's his personality that makes him really great to know and love.. I've known handsome men. They can be a-holes. It's what's in a man's soul that's important. It was Ozzie's soul that Harriet was attracted to.
She did NOT suck at all; good voice; great looks; Ricky looks just like her. No movements, though. That makes the song lifeless; too bad. Thanks for posting. Never realized she could sing.
I don't think she sucked. I saw this movie years ago and I thought she did just fine. Incidently I liked her dress, perhaps with a little less glitter at the neckline. Nevertheless, quite beautiful.
As Cole Porter wrote, “You’re the top, you’re a Berlin ballad.”
There was never a TV Mom we loved more than Harriet. And she could really sing!
right!
HARRIET NELSON WAS A VERY BEAUTIFUL WOMAN ❤
Wonderful performance by Harret Hilliard Nelson. So much emotion in her voice and her performance. I loved the way they sang back then.

lydi bundy That is so sweet. God bless her. ❤❤❤
A vision with a sweet voice. Sometimes I dream of being young back in the 30s ... sigh ...
WOW! Harriet's eyes.
Wonderful voice. 💖
a marvelous song and a very wonderful interpretation....so poignant! love it. thanks.
I love Ozzie and Harriet.
Watch it all the time.
I love watching her dance in the Tutti fruity episode.
(Frapping.)
the best number in the film; written by the greatest popular song writer in history. No contest.
Irving Berlin. any questions?
She was cast well and delivers the song perfectly and simply....Irene might have overpowered this song

song & performance hold up remarkably well even over 80 yrs. later, kudos!

quite so!

I'm so glad someone mentioned that this was Harriet Nelson. I never would have guessed!!
Moving...touching...memorable!
Beautiful inside an out and very talented as was the whole family
Couldn't agree more!!!
Wonderful. So moving.
Love this....thanks for sharing!
A beautiful and classy lady. Reminds us that "demure" is not just a forgotten word in the dictionary.
"Get Thee Behind Me Satin" is one of the great film musical performances of all time. Harriet made a lot of films.

This is great - I alwys felt that this is a neglected song which the great singers failed to pick up - such a lovely song
What a sad song!
And I can relate to it.
I liked her and Ozzie when they were regulars on the Red Skelton show in the early forties. One of her roles was the mother of the mean widdle kid.
sooooo touching and dreamy
I LOVE EVERY VIDEO ABOUT THE NELSONS, THERE DEEP IN MY HEART, FOREVER
Wow...2016 and we hear Harriet before Ozzie. No wonder Rickey was a big star! How they could handle such a tragedy. I can't handle it, how could they?

Do you mean on ,'Tutti Fruitti'?
I love Harriet. Good people, the Nelsons. They are missed!
@@bethelle9099 indeed they are.
What a lovely voice I'm sorry she didn't do more recordings
Simply delightful.
"elegant weapon from a more civilized age"
A wonderful singer and she enjoyed a nice film career before working only with her husband.
W
She was gorgeous! She sings "Get The Behind me Satin" 'and it is wonderful. The talent is there, remember she's the mother of Ricky Nelson.....
Thanks for the post.

Look at pictures of Ozzie in his younger days. He looks a lot like Ricky!!!! No wonder she fell for him.
one of my favorite songs - should be better known - she is singing to Randolf Scott -
VERY NICE...
I remeber when I was still a kid, my dad taught me this song where my dad know this because of my grandma :)).
@RALPHIEREDRYDER Now that is a reference few would get!
Peggy Lou Snyder became Harriet Hillard became Harriet Nelson!
Nice
Now I know where Ricky got his name hillard

She displayed a lot of emotion at the end of the song.
Everything about Harriet is just LOVELY!!! 💖💖💖💖
she's 27
