    Thank you both from England.I have this amazing camera myself, but the fact you show me your camera settings on screen has helped a beginner become more confident in exploring what his camera can actually do. Plus help with my creativity. Once again I thank you both for taking the time, being professional. . . . .and taking on the cold conditions 👍

    This is a great video because any fool can spend thousands and thousands of dollars on photographic equipment to get the desired effect. However for those of us not made of money having a generalist camera like the P 1000 ( I have the P900) but using that camera to its fullest potential is the trick. This “trick” however requires more photographic thinking and this video is actually expressing that idea. Of course you need to know the benefits and limitations of your equipment but then use that knowledge to take great photos. I too have taken lovely portraits with my P900 so it is possible to take great photos with more generalist equipment but it just requires a little more head work. Cheers

    Nice video! I just picked up the P900 and as I expected you can get good photos from a small sensor camera if you know what you are doing. It's good that the camera makers are still making cameras like this as a large part of the population (most people) are not willing to spend thousands on a full frame or crop frame DSLR or mirrorless camera.

    I’ve loved your P1000 series of videos. When you do the slide show of examples it would help to see the unedited version as well as the final edited one. For those people who might want to use this who don’t have access to a program like Lightroom they might be disappointed by what they see in their view finder when reviewing their picture.
    I’ve been a Canon user since 1983 and I’ve bought a P1000 which I use as my ‘holiday’ camera. It works very well and the video capability is excellent even when you shoot in HD rather than 4K.

      This is true! This camera is the best choice for travel, but you shouldn't open the photos in a professional program. A great camera to quickly fill your photo album with 10x15 shots.

    My question is a little different. Will the P1000 support using a Yongnuo 622n-tx to trigger off camera flash? Just curious. I shoot with really "old" technology, the Nikon D50 and the Nikon D300 and I can trigger off-camera flash using the Yongnuo 622n-tx along with the Nikon sb-600 flash and the Yongnuo 968 flash. Thanks! I really enjoy your in depth reviews!

    I own a p900 and it's what I take to the beach. Terrible in low light but you can take some good shots. I also have Nikon D750 that I use for that. I can sit on the beach and get great boat shots and even what lures they are using.

  • @artistjoh

    While I am not keen on this for portrait there is another side to this coin. The smaller sensor with very long lens means it is more interesting for macro and general natural world subject matter from insects and flowers to birds and animals. The depth of field makes portraiture more difficult, but definitely makes wildlife easier. It is a camera I have on my to buy list. People who deride small sensor cameras are just demonstrating their inexperience. I shoot digital medium format but consider my GoPro’s a hugely valuable asset. There is no such thing as a bad format, just formats that are better suited to the needs of the situation. As someone who has lugged a 1Dx, 800 5.6, Gitzo Giant, and gimbal head up and down mountains I feel qualified to say that the little sensor on the P1000 is brilliant because of what the camera brings to the table in terms of capability in such a light weight package.
    BTW. Raymond is one heck of a lucky guy, and I ain’t talking cameras here :)

    Photography is about problem solving, whether you have a full frame, crop sensor, or small sensor camera. The thinking photographer will find a way to make this bridge camera work for portraits. However, many (not all) buyers of bridge cameras such as the P1000 will not be experienced pros or amateurs and won't intuitively grasp the techniques you use (very long focal length and big separation from background, e.g.) . Thanks for taking the time on the P1000 when everyone else is doing videos on Sony autofocus.

    • @shaolin95
      @shaolin95 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh stop it with the "thinking photographer" blah blah. This is not a pro camera and is not meant for that. There are MANY things a pro camera with a good lens will be able to do that no amount of "thinking" can overcome. There is a usage for this and I own for those moments but let's not go into absurd comments

    I have been using this camera for now like 2 months. It does Bokeh if the subject is close or if you can zoom to fill the sensor with the subject. Again, a little saturation needs to be added in post processing to get some colors. 400 ISO max. The noise comes in at 800 ISO. Below 1200 mm, it is decent handheld with practice. Overall, it is a very good companion for hobbyists.

    Hi, I have been messing with the P1000 for a couple of months and so far I'm very happy with the results except my portraits, I just cannot get them right, I have two questions, did you shoot these under Manual mode?, and also how do you get the ISO in 160/180/ are these options for ISO only when you're shooting RAW? because I shoot only in JPEG and I only get 100, 200, 400 and so on in the ISO. Hope you can help me with this.

    I understand you only had it for a short time, but did you experience any problems with overheating? I video wildlife in Florida, so I'm frequently out in 90 degree weather taking extended video clips. I was taught that "the best camera is the camera you have with you." I miss a lot of shots because I don't have the right gear with me, or I do but the lens change would take too long. Cameras like this fill that gap. If you consider how good phone cameras can be, the small sensor is not necessarily a problem. When they make a camera like this with a more modern phone sensor it will be a huge step up.

    Guys, with this point and shoot cameras one can not afford to think as a regular photographer. If you want nice bokeh you might have to set the camera for macro photography instead of a portrait setting or else. You might also have to adjust the exposure compensation. Yes-they are called ''point and shoot'' but there is also a software which you need to communicate with and make it work in your favour. I personally am a bit dissapointed with Nikon's creativity options, Nikons are a bit stiff in that regard, but apart from that they could poduce nice, sharp, professionally looking images which I didn't see in your examples. For about 10 years since 2007 I was unable to afford expensive gear and used point and shoot cameras on regular bases-and I shoot a lot. There has always been that use- how to overcome the limitations in order to satisfy my phoitographic needs. My most expensive camera is Sony a6300 which I use ocasionaly because it is too expensive to risc it walkig around with it all the time.

  • @pauldhoff
    @pauldhoff 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Of course one works with what one has. I have the D7200 and D5500 so I can have two different lens ready to go. I’m an old fart (70) and I remember using crappy Instamatic film cameras and if one ones wants to talk about a limit camera that is the one, because it had no focus, terrible blur and no bokeh at all. As an all-around camera, I see nothing wrong with the P1000, just the people that have limited thinking and imagination on how to use the tool. Also, so many are just so damn spoiled. Thinking about the Z7 one day.
