Well done for using an eco product here. Obviously, the more gently you can clean something, the less damage you do to it.
Might I suggest more agitation and a periodic brass wire brushing to help it along. Then WIPE the surplus off to keep the product cleaner. I wasn’t expecting all the rust to be removed just leaving it to soak. This product is ideal for getting all the rusty fixings in your shed and putting them in your used take away containers where you can forget about them for a while. You have given us a very useful time frame to work with here. I’m going to get some cheers👍

Hi Paul, you hit the nail right on the head there, pop in some rusty bits, and forget about them for a while.
It would definitely speed up the process if I interfered with it more, like agitation and brushing off, but as my first experiment with it, I was amazed how well it actually worked 👍

@@projectsinthebarn Yes point taken. You do your ‘control’ method first and then work from that

Very well done, but I would take a larger glass and hang the pieces in it with a wire. Then you can always shake the glass. Of course always with a cover. But what counts is the Success. You were successful. Best regards, Udo. By the way, sandblasting is the best solution.

Hi Udo, it did work pretty well, and great to be able to dip it and forget about it for a week while you can get in with something else. The main subframe will be blasted 👍

Phosphoric acid is a cheap and proven way to remove rust . It converts any rust into iron phosphate that prevenyts further rusting. Once allowed to dry just paint with a good zinc primer then colour. Works really well. Out of interest how much was the rust treatment you used.

Cheers for that advice Phil 👍 I believe it was around £30 posted, so it's not too bad I guess if it can be used multiple times. Time will tell, I guess.

It seems to work well mate but im not overly convinced, think shot blasting and powder coating would be better for the XKR parts. It would be good for the nuts and bolts 👍

Hi John, good to hear from you, buddy. I completely agree with you, I will pop all of the nuts, bolts, and washers in there and let it do its thing. The main subframe I shall look at getting shot blasted and painted / powder coated. The diff I shall probably do in-house and give it a lick of paint after I change the oil, etc 👍

    Eh up Simon.
Yep, it certainly works but not really practical to do the xk8 rear suspension I would have thought...
On a separate note, I can never understand why people persist in using gas fridges. Never work on uneven ground and n ot very eco... On my overland truck I got rid of it and installed an Endel compressor fridge which works super well off a solar panel even in the UK. ...!
    All the best Q

Hi buddy, good to hear from you again.
This will work great for the smaller nuts & bolts etc, but the large items will definitely get blasted.
I agree on the fridge front, it's just that this is the original to the van.
I have yet to install solar on the camper yet, but when I do later this year then I may well invest in a more modern compressor style fridge 😀
