    Hi i have a jag XKR 150 it's a 2009 5.0 model I recently changed the battery, however since i did I have been getting an E Diff fault intermittently on the dash this has tended to go off after I drive the car for a bit. That said I took the car to my local mechanic who dose most of my serving he put the obd reader on it and cleared all the faults now the E Diff fault stays on is this something i should be worried about and if not how do i clear it off my dash any help would fantastic thanks

      Hi Martin, good to hear from you, mate. Normally, I would say check your battery with this type of intermittent warning fault, but in your case, you have already replaced it. Was it a like for like battery, with the correct cold cranking amps, etc, as recommended by Jaguar? You say tour garage cleared all of the codes, but the E Diff one has returned. Did he read the E Diff fault code to get an idea of what it was? If not, then that would be my next port of call. Read the codes and then go from there. If you are local to me, then I could plug in my code reader and have a look for you. Sadly though, sometimes it may just be a coincidence, and there is an actual fault with the E Diff system. Please let me know how you get on buddy. Cheers, Simon.

      @@projectsinthebarn Hi Simon yes it was, the chank number was higher but all other stuff was the same i did watch a number of youtube vids on changing a battery on a 150 however when my guy put the OBD reader on it he could not find any fault codes for the E diff that said when he unplugged the reader the E diff fault stayed on and now it won't go away i was thinking of doing a hard reset or just disconnecting the battery and then reconnecting it to see if this made any difference. as for popping round sorry mate i live in Spain so that would be a bit too far for a cup of tea and a chat but thanks anyway i will take on board what you have said by any chance do you know how much a new E diff costs. also my guy was using a snap on OBD code reader is that a good one IDK. also love your show would if lived nearer come over and help out but yer i have turned a spanner now and then. all the best keep going mate.

      @martinsmith-fm6ni thanks buddy, I appreciate your kind comments. A hard reset may be a good option, then mate. It's worth giving it a go, that's for sure. A higher powered battery would be a good thing and, and should not have any negative impact on the car. I have never replaced an E Diff, so I'm afraid I would not be able to guide you about that buddy, sorry. Jaguar uses a specific computer programme (VCDS) to read the cars OBD properly. If there are any main dealers near you, it may be worth the €100 or so they may charge to diagnose the issue.

    Those wheelnuts are terrible. And the locking wheelnut key is very weak too. Sadly the solid aftermarket ones available in sets on eBay corrode and look rough after a single winter (despite the "extra thick chrome plating"). Replaced all of my wheelnuts with solid Toyota ones (better quality, same size except you need a 21mm socket / wheel brace). Wheelstuds breaking are a far, far worse outcome though. Speaking from bitter experience, on the rear that means a replacement hub, which really also means a replacement wheel bearing...which in practice means replacing whatever else you had to cut off because it's corroded solid.

      Hi buddy, it's good to hear from you. They are a terrible design, which may work as an idea on paper, just not in practise after a few years. My new ones are 21mm as you mention. I'm just hoping my others come off OK when I do my brakes this week 🤞

    Hey Simon, I had the exact same problem with a stuck wheel nut on my XF that simply would not come off and eventually sheared as yours did. It's quite common on Jags with the 2 part nuts. A local garage eventully managed to get mine off with a dremel and I replaced all the nuts with solid ones. I was surprised how little the recommened torque is, 125nm. I am sure I used to overtighten them when I did them by hand before I used a torque wrench! Good job sorting out the sensor.

  • @johnwilkinson4782
    @johnwilkinson4782 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Great to have you back mate. If you ever have that problem again you just need a 20mm steel hole saw. Remove the pilot drill bit and the hole saw fits over the wheel stud, just cut the old nut down to the wheel you then take the wheel off over the collar part then you can unscrew the collar part with a pair of mole grips. Done this on my XKR no problem at all. I now have solid alloy wheel nuts fitted 😊

      Hi Simon, Happy New Year and welcome back. I know you sold your D3 but I think you might have a classic D3 vault with that water in fuel warming. On my D3 it is a wiring issue with the fuel filter support. You need to but a new filter assembly. To fit it you need to cut a slice out off the new support so you can fit it without taking off the front support. All in the D3 forums, is it the same 2.7 engine? I often think “why didn’t I take it to a garage” 😂

    • @projectsinthebarn
      @projectsinthebarn 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @roberttruman8332 hi Robert. It's good to hear from you mate. The engine is pretty much the same as the earlier 2.7 D3 units. On all 3 of my XF's I've owned they have all had the same intermittent water in fuel warning. I believe it is a wiring fault as you suggest and will get to it one day 😀👍

    Looks great! A question for you, do you have seatbelts in the back for the children? I've had our karmann for 4 years and since then we have gone from a family of three to a family of four. We only have three seatbelts in the front although the van is registered (Austrian) for 5 plus driver. I have a cross europe trip to do in April and now in Austria we must have seatbelts for all passengers. To complicate things further it is not allowed to sit sideways so our current thinking is three belts across the back. Middle for adult then either side for securing the child seats. This involves removing the back seat completely and building a metal framework with pillars for three point belts (at least on the side seats, maybe can get away with lap belt in the middle so the layout of the van remains. The cushions remain the same, just have to make the stuff under the seat which is then clamped to the chassis.

    • @projectsinthebarn
      @projectsinthebarn 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi buddy, good to hear from you, and thanks for your interesting question. A few years ago, I used to have the VW T25 Karmann Cheetah, which I also reframed. We ended up selling this vehicle because i wasn't happy only having the side facing lap belts in the rear, which I built a steel box section frame for also. In the distance wide, you should have metal frames under each side seat in the back, which is where the rear lap belts fix to. They even have the captive nuts in the frame for them. If you want 3 point seat belts, then you are on a whole other level. You could, in theory, remove the middle rear seat out of the way to access that storage area, and then you could tie your metal box section frame into the side seat frames if you have them. An issue you face is the floor is only thin plywood and polystyrene and the rear chassis is quite away from the rear of the van, but as long as you tie down to that chassis you will be in good shape I would suggest, especially where the tow bar bolts up to. Anything is possible if you can think outside the box, maybe mock something up in timber to test the theory? If I can help in any way, please just let me know. Cheers, buddy, Simon.

      @projectsinthebarn thanks so much for the extensive and quick reply! I have a motorbike carrier fitted to the back which extendeds the chassis at the back so there is plenty of meaty things to attach to. I never noticed the metal parts you mentioned, I will check that out tomorrow. I think mine is 1992 or 1993 (without checking) with the 6 cylinder turbo diesel. I have seen photos of other karmanns with side lap belts. Maybe previous owner took them out. I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow and update you. Thanks again for your advise! Much appreciated! Where abouts in uk are you by the way? I see you got rid of the problematic front window. It was leaking when I got ours so I had to open up the alu roof and renew some of the front timbers. Probably should have just blanked it off but instead i put it back with new seals etc. Thought the 180 degree panorama from alcove was quite a nice feature. A feature I will likely regret!

    • @projectsinthebarn
      @projectsinthebarn 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @Arboristtreeworkvideos, when I bought my DW, the front window was already removed, so I thought I would stick with that and avoid any future leaking issues. I put mine away in my barn yesterday after it has been out in the elements since I got it on the road last Easter, and I must say, it has stayed absolutely bone dry inside, not signs of water ingress anywhere, which I'm well chuffed about. The EPDM roof I have put on seems to have worked perfectly 👌 I ambased in the south coast, in Dorset. Are you Austrian or en ex pat living out there? We are planning a big road trip ourselves foe this summer with another DW owner, hoping to make it to Norway, and taking un as many countries along the way from France as we can in our short time frame of only 3 weeks.

    Hiya mate, did you ever get to the bottom of why the seal was leaking mate? if so what was it. I too am having the exact same issue with my xk8.

    • @projectsinthebarn
      @projectsinthebarn หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi buddy, I have had it on a couple of my XK8 's now. I would suggest the most likely cause is the rubber seal where it attaches to the 'gutter rail' trim at the top of the door frame. Under the metal trim that the door rubber fixes to is a foam seal. These break down over time and let the water seep past them. If you carefully lower the rubber door seal away from the metal trim at the top of the frame, you will expose some fixings that hold it into place. These can easily be undone to remove the metal trim to check and / or replace the foam seal. If you look in my blue XK8 playlist, you will see a video showing you how to do it and the issue mine was causing. I hope this helps buddy, please let me know how you get on 👍

    My DPF message came up amber, then red in minutes, tried the run down motorway but didnt change, makes sense that it won't regen on red as mine didn't. So got a mobile company in, they added a cleaner to the DPF direct, lots of white foam out the back, and we took it for a drive with the guy logged into the car to force regen. Because it was above a certain level he said it wouldn't allow regen to be set, so he told the car it had a new DPF fitted and that allowed regen to be forced. Did a few regens, you could see a slight blueish tint to the exhaust behind the car, but it worked. Seems to all be about the level the DPF is reporting.

      Hi buddy, I'm glad you managed to get it sorted out. They are such a pain, aren't they! Fingers crossed the warning stays off for you after paying out to get it professionally cleaned. 3 months or so after I managed to get my red light off, the car is still going strong, and the warning hasn't returned 🤞

    been working at old Jags for years and about to do a second refresh on my 98xk8 before hols next year. If you have time the old vinegar rust removal is very effective for small parts. De grease them, plastic or glass container with vinegar and a tiny pinch salt and drop them in so completely covered. Let them sit for 24 hours and agitate to move removed rust, just repeat until the rust is gone. Much easier than wire brush and sanding. This process if given time will completely remove rust from them. when you pull them out rinse and dry immediately to stop the rust starting again on bare metal.

      Hi buddy, it's good to hear from you. Unappreciated your advice and sounds like a very effective way of dealing with the rust. Back in the summer, I used an eco-friendly, chemical free, rust remover solution, which I did an experiment with and filmed for my channel that worked very well. Feel free to check it out. It's probably a vinegar based solution as you suggested 😊 Good luck with your refresh on your jag again 👍

    Hi Simon, Got back from offshore this week and got some pumps organised from berkshirejagcomponets via ebay. Unlike yourself, the pumps I got had the same electrical connector as the originals, so I had no need to do the splice nausea you had to go through! I did find an extra baffle inside the swirl pot which was held in place by the same screws which hold down the pumps. This was a real pain because as you well know, it's a big enough pain to do the pumps on their own, without introducing another component to mess about with in that tight space and working blind. Anyway, long story short, with the new pumps fitted the XKR fired up first time - not even a hiccough - straight on the 8!👍 Again, I'd like to thank you so much for putting so much good info out there on youtube for these cars, and like others who frequent your videos, I really appreciate seeing it as it happens, sometimes good, other times maybe er, not so good. It just shows you're human too like the rest of us! Great job Simon, the next project on my XKR will be the rear sub-frame as Ive been following that particular series of video's too. Maybe not this week though, as I want to let the scuffs and scrapes in my arms get better before getting stuck into that particular project! More power to you Simon - keep up the good work! Jim😀 Should have mentioned it earlier, but I tested the old pumps and both were totally seized as opposed to being dead short - weird🤷🏼‍♂
