    Another top notch video 👍 Most of them I haven't played or didn't even know about or just can't remember, because I'm old f*** 😃
    Maybe Wacky Wheels was pretty popular I would say, we played a lot in split-screen back in the days.
    Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's Super Off Road .. whatta name 😆leaving aside all future Tony Hawk's, Colin McRae's or whatever Tom Clancy's series. I think I played something similar, can't remember the name, but I bet there was a bunch of rip-offs.

    I absolutely loved big red racing, absolutely brilliant. It was the first game that me and a friend played "online" by plugging our computers into the phone line with the built in modem on the family pentium. It felt like I was in the future playing a 2 player game with someone not in the room. Happy days.

    I think you're very correct about Wacky Wheels, definitely a "win one championship and done" type game. Played it in may when it was game of the month for the dos gaming club, was fun for a bit but definitely not as much fun as I remember. I love the music though, I think that is the only area where the game is better than Mario Kart :)

    • @OldAndNewVideoGames
      @OldAndNewVideoGames  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It was a great contender, not a game that could dethrone Mario. It would require a fair dose of extra work and polish to do it, but I doubt a shareware dev would give it as much time and money back then.

    Vette - In America, especially back when this game was released, it was quite common to find "gas stations" that also had 2-3 service bays for working on cars. Today it seems more common to find places that only dispense fuel (well, that and a "convenience" store selling snacks, soda, milk, cigarettes, newspapers, etc), or only work on cars. although there are still some locations that do both.

    My good sir, you've raced your way to another bacon like 🥓 I listened to it first and was smiling like a weirdo on the street most of the time. :D
    I played Wacky Wheels as a kid and dad and I had a blast with it. It was loads of fun. My favourites were the hedgehogs on the toilet, as I'm sure I've mentioned before. There was also a duck shoot mode for a bit of variety. :) I'm glad the characters were animals, it fits better with the cartoony theme.
    Lamborghini Challenge looks like it used the same engine (game engine, I feel compelled to specify :D) as Lotus Challenge, but without the cool music. Or did you turn it off? Music is important in driving games. ;)
    I totally agree that racing games are best with a friend. I keep trying to get my colleague to race in Formula 1 together at the PS4 at work, but she knows I'm too good, so she keeps refusing. XD It's a curse...
    PS. Speaking of cars, mine decided to stop working at the supermarket today. It knew about your video. :D But it's ok, some nice people gave it a push and got it running again.

    • @OldAndNewVideoGames
      @OldAndNewVideoGames  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wholesome memory achievement unlocked! ;)
      LAC was actually a direct competitor to Lotus games. Same as all other Crazy Cars games were. People were usually split back then, and preferred either one or the other. It would be hard for me to pick the best, but I always had a soft spot for Lotus 2.
      Maybe you could get one of the guys at work to race you? They'd be more into it. Though if they'd lose, chances are, that they could be off put future races, if they're men of the medieval kind. ;)
      Was that the battery that failed in your car? If it was, did you took couple or rounds around the city to "charge it up"?

    • @TeaAndTankControls
      @TeaAndTankControls หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@OldAndNewVideoGames Oh, interesting how people chose one car game over the other. I really liked Lotus (can't remember which version) and the music is still my favourite in a driving game. Or real driving. :D I guess it's not on this video because it's one of the A-listers? :)
      The guys at work are more into Fifa than getting their ass kicked at racers, sadly. :P

    I don't think there is such a thing as a bad version of Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's off road racing.. Owned it on the Spectrum, Commodore 64 AND Amiga at various times and loved all three versions. 2nd only to Bubble Bobble when it comes to the amount of systems I've had a game on . When I (Finally) did get a chance to play it on a friends PC I was blown away by the speed. A genuine classic in my mind...One of the best couch battle games ever

    (Turbo Cup)
    oooh Dijon Prenois i suck at that track in every single racing game i tried it on but it is fantastic track always happy to see it featured in racing games,
    Paul Richard is probably one i have least interest in - its too modifiable to have any defined charakter but that also meant for a long time it was default place to go testing one's formula for an upcoming season,
    Magny Course was very impressive F1 hosting track but not in 80, one i know (90s one) was excellent training track for management of your throttle / brake usage as most turns throw you off if you mess either up - i loved that track.
    not sure i ever heard of Nogaro.
    Not a fan of the car brand either so skipping this one.
    (Iron Man offroad which i for some reason keep calling Soda offroad challange) i definitively know of and can gurantee was very succesfull at least in some parts of the world.
    i mean I know of it and i know nothing about anything.
    Either way it is excellent even singleplayer. can personaly recommand.
    Altho yes the closing remarks on the segment are right singleplayer it is good for handfull of races in one go else it gets very draining..
    (GP 500 ... 2)
    i do not believe i ever played that one, the first one offcourse, along with the accolade's Grand Prix circuit and indy 500 challange, but there is huge hole in my boke racing games in 90s - see next one i played was CHS2'000 just before i got to venerable MotoGP ultimate racing Technology 2 (yes i started with 2) and eventually black bean's SBK X and SBK Generations.
    so this is wierd for me as it looks slightly different to what i remember.
    i ought to try it maybe ill like it.
    (wacky wheels)
    its one of those games i do not realy appreciate as i never played mario... anything realy and my baseline for racing games were simcades so i feel very uncomfortable in anything too arcade somehow.
    strange i know but i am very strange entity. apparently i did play t at some point, even have it in my library but i remember nothing so i likely hated it. (last played 4 years ago and total play time 20 minutes)
    (GT racing '97)
    hmm i would have likely compared it to the 90s TOCA games, they were after all released on PC and dealt with touring cars. but sure NFS was huge leap forward compared to previous standard holder (Test drive series and its offshoots). i am not fan of can racing (any car with roof) per-se but i can enjoy some of them in some contexts.
    if handlnig is alright it might be my favourite game here.

    I don’t know Turbo Cup but it looks hideous. 😄 looks slow too? I had a couple of those chinese Tetris games, they were awful! I do have an officially licensed one though in the shape of a chicken nugget from McDonalds China. Seriously!
    I do know Vette! & the open world thing was ahead of it’s time & as you said the very square recreation of SanFran was impressive for the time. Wheels are very square too.
    Super Off Road is a blast, even the single player is fun & for a 2D racer it looks pretty good too but yeh, multiplayer is where it shines.
    Never played Grand Prix 500 2 looks fairly good for the time but the draw distance looks bad? Looks like the map would be necessary to know what’s coming up?
    I have the PC version of Lamborghini & I do like it but I 100% agree about the prize money, you do have to grind to get anywhere.
    I’ve played Slicks & Slide & it’s great fun & I’m somewhat sure the first time I heard about it from you? I could be wrong?
    Wacky Wheels is practically a love letter to Super Mario Cart but it just isn’t as slick & the frame rate would make Nintendo cry, even on a strong PC for the time.
    Yooooooooo! Big Red Racing felt like such a step forward in being fully 3D back in the day & one I highly recommend it to everyone.
    Never played Fatal Fumes because by ‘96 it looked & felt super dated but I should really give it a go, primarily because of the map editor.
    GT Racing 97 looks nice but I hope strong hardware can get that frame rate up? 😕
    Great video, thanks. Definitely an interesting list, you did find some lesser known but interesting ones.

      You know, I actually never played Super Off Road in the arcades, which is odd as I was spending soooo much time there. xD GP5002 is actually pretty fun, but yeah, the map is there for a reason. :)
      Wacky Wheels was a good game. And a good "almost" contender. It needed more polish and a little more money injected to it, to really stand a chance. xD
      The next video should be out momentarily, and it will be in the genre I think you enjoy. :)
